Hey guys…
So one of my favorite movies from childhood was this obscure Franco-Belgian film called John the Fearless, or Jan Zonder Vrees. On youtube you can find a fan-made HD Remaster of the original language, but I grew up with the English dub (which you can find on archive.org… I know because I put a VHS rip there).
What would need to be done: match the English Dub soundtrack with the fan-remastered HD footage.
I’ve seen two other films that need a similar thing done:
One is the Ralph Bakshi Lord of the Rings. For those who don’t know the original theatrical ending was during that still frame before the credits, a narrator just says “so ends the first part of the war of the One Ring.” However every DVD and bluray release I’ve seen has instead used an alternate narration which is longer and more jarring. I saw on Archive.org a VHS of the movie that has the original ending.
What would need to be done: simply splice the old narration back in to like, one minute of the movie.
Finally, there’s a movie called Asterix and Cleopatra where for some reason, any DVD that has the English dub also crops the movie to widescreen (it was originally fullscreen). Any release that is in the OAR also lacks the English dub. I could swear I once saw a version that was English but fullscreen but I’ve lost track of it.
What would need to be done: Sync the English track to the original footage. Funny thing is there’s a slight bit more footage in the original version so I’m not sure how much this complicates things.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has done these projects already?
If not… well, what would be the first step to take to do it myself, assuming I already have the actual movies? I’ve never messed with editing software before.
Thanks in advance.
