Why is it that the Sith...

Why is it that that the Sith cannot come back in ghost form (spririt) and Jedi Can? I know that Jedi have mastered the more difficult path and reached some karmic enlightenment, yielding the next step of a spirit of greater power that is not bound by the limitations of an earthly body. I assume that since take the darker path, the quicker path to power that they never reach the enlightenment required, though physically, it seems, they have more power in their physical bodies. So this is why Darth Maul, Darth Siddious or Tyrannus can not come back in some form in the movies. Correct?

Well that we know of...

Maybe they CAN come back, but instead like poltergeists or something! Just imagine the 'ghost' stories on Naboo...

"We've had several workers who refuse to go into the power chamber any longer. They keep hearing weird noises, feeling un-ease and a couple even claimed to see objects move on their own! Spoooooookyyyy!"

(and thanks for the shout-out in the other thread Obi-Wonton! Right back atcha!)

The Sith do not have more power, they simply use more of the power made available to them. The Sith and Jedi are capable of the same powers, but the Jedi use the Force as little as possible.

Think of it this way: criminals and police both have guns. The police are constrained by using standard firearms, and bullets that have limited range and penetrability, to lessen the chances of hitting innocent bystanders. Criminals, however, use machine guns and bullets with teflon coating.

Same "power", different purposes.

And because Qui-gon, Obi-wan and Yoda work with the Force, following its will, they are granted this unique status (above all the Jedi before them, who, while still trying to do "good", apparently didn't have it quite right.) Palps, Maul and Dooku abuse the Force. Anakin, being the Chosen One and finally accomplishing the goal that he had been born to do, was granted this status as well. Being the son of a God makes things go your way.

I think there was Exar Kun, but I don't think he was a Force ghost. He was just a ghost.

If memory serves, Kun used the dark side and the special abilities of the Massassi to keep himself alive within the stones of the temples.

Palpatine projected his spirit into a clone body upon his death.

The Sith have their ways it would appear. I still remember Obiwan saying he couldn't appear to Luke any more in Heir to the Empire. I've forgotten the reason though.

Interesting analogy MBJ. I'd say that hit it on the head. Though I think it was the self sacrifice that clenched immortality for Anakin.

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

In the ROTS script, in the Qui-Gon cut scene, it mentions that the way to immortality is through passion. The archaic Jedi way allowed for none of this. The Sith had anger, fear, etc., and a lust for power, but no passion. Qui-Gon had passion for Anakin, Obi-Wan for Luke and Anakin, Yoda for Luke (I guess), and Anakin for his children and Padme.

At least, outside of the mention of "passion," that's what I got from it.

That's a pretty resonable answer, although both Qui-Gon and Anakin were burned, and did not disapear at the moment they are killed. Perhaps since they discovered it "by themselves", without anyone telling them, they didn't actually had their bodies disapear but did turn into spirits. Or maybe they were burned alive

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Thanks, Klingon-Jedi. Now I'm just waiting for someone to get my reference.

To be fair, we don't really know if Anakin himself was burned. It have just been the armor...

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

Actually, Lucas is on record saying it both ways.

Well, GL is the last person I would ask such questions, as he has no idea about those details, and would probably come up with an answer the moment someone asked him.
