Why don't Clones need mics?

Author
Time
It's a simple enough question. Why do Stormtroopers need to have their 'radios' or speaking devices click on and off when they say things, but the Clones do not?

I would really like to see someone that is doing an edit of the PT to address this, if they haven't already.

Ah c'mon YIYF! Nitpicking yes, but HC didn't say "I hate the PT because the Clone troops' radios don't click on and off". He merely pointed out a curiosity that ran through his mind and asked if anyone else had noticed it.

Lighten up man!

Too many people here are getting all defensive right now... must be the knowledge that the movies are over... for now...

I had thought about this the other day, and double checked when I went to see ROTS at another theater (not my own) for the 5th time.

Do the Clones have some special ability that they can talk REALLY loud through the helmet?

Actually, you are the one nitpicking. HL just brought up a simple question, and you are overreacting to it.

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

I always thought they reverted back in technology by the time the OT came around. The ships, technology look great in the PT, but not so hot in the OT. Maybe all the battles took their toll on the technology. Though when Meanace 1st came out and thought that, I thought there was a lot longer timeline between Ep III and IV, not just 20 years.

Clearly by the time of the OT, the contract for stormtrooper armor and helmet mikes goes to the lowest bidder. Even that officer on the Death Star acted like bad helmet transmitters were a regular problem.

Where were you in '77?

Right, but they are non existent with the clones. They just talk, like Boba Fett.

"They just talk, like Boba Fett."

Makes sense. Apparently it was more than his genes that he was the template for. The technology has changed.

OK, Whatever, go ahead and discuss the clone trooper microphones. I didn't realise that calling something nitpicking is overeacting.
Speaking of overeacting....

War does not make one great.

It's the same reason that the computer graphics in ANH are crappier than in TPM. The technology got better.

Or - there's no sound in space.

Seriously though, if one can ignore the lack of sound in space and accept that the Force can make people float and remember people they never met, I think mic clicks are the least of the problems.
VADER: Let me look on you with my own eyes...

All good scifi creates 'rules' for it's enviroment. Once those rules are established, if you break those rules, you've created a problem. These mics are such a thing.

Again, if it's not important to you, don't worry about it.

LOL..that is *so* not what I said, it's not even funny, but nice try. Take the drama elsewhere, please.

it is nitpicking though, its like saying they used blue radios then and now they use green ones why?

Here's another nitpick...where did Palpatine get the second lightsaber? He lost his first one with Mace...where did he get his "Yoda" saber?
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

"Stay back, or Mr...Fett gets it!"

Because it kills the Star Wars 'feel'.

isnt it possible that pali could have just gone and found it, or maybe he had a spare. and how does it ruin the starwras feel. Whats the starwars feel, everyone talks about it but no one has explained it.

I think it's funny as hell to read this thread.

We sit here day in and day out talking about all the tiny little particulars of Star Wars.

Someone brings up one question about stormtroopers and all of a sudden people are jumping out of the wood working shouting that we've gone to far.

Funny stuff.

If you're going to get that techincal, isn't this whole website a nitpick??

Really, a thread discussing a legitimate topic is fine. Can't say I really ever thought about this topic, but obviously someone has.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

not really this site is about release the OT one DVD. and a legitimate topic that one could bring up is oh how could leia remember her mom if her mom died, stuff like that, not like oh why did one use a click radio and the other not.

how does it ruin the Star Wars feel? Because for the first 20 years of the Star Wars universe, the forces for the Empire or what would have been the end of the Republic used Microphones when they spoke. When Luke talked without it, it sounded muffled. When the Clones talk without it, it doesn't. So, instead of feeling disconnected from the Stormtroopers they originally would have become, you throw in that little sound and people, conciously or not 'feel' like they are watching a Star Wars movie.

The Star Wars feel is those little things that when you hear them in every day life, you instantly recognize them. Or when you hear a sound or a piece of music in a film, it instantly brings you back to Star Wars. ADM brings the 'Star Wars' feel to TPM when he inserts some classic cues into the POD race. When the two Imperial fighters fly by at the end of ROTS and they make the same sound as the TIE fighters flying by, that is the Star Wars feel. Just little things that Ben Burtt, John Williams, and George Lucas did that made the films unique and burned them into our pop culture minds.

So, no..it isn't a big deal, but it's one of those things you don't notice at first, but on further watching you begin to think "Huh, that's weird".
