If they want to go low profile, choose me! I have no film, writing, or directing experience. That's as unestablished as they come.

I'll be the Kurtz to your Lucas, buddy!

The more I read these names the more I have to insist that it not be an established director.

Movies these days.

Therefore, directors these days.

Kinda with you here. I don't think it's likely though.

I will be shocked if this is the guy, but it was already reported that he met with Lucas this summer, and now this interview from several months ago has surfaced.  Watch at 21:45.

I don't know about directing Star Wars but he can order my underwear around.

I can't wait to lose myself in the heaps of praise I'll receive, giving me sole credit for the work in which you and many others will be so important, then later can your ass for disagreeing with my shifting focus away from quality storytelling and toward merchandising and brand sales.

And you can go on to make billions of dollars, and I'll hold onto my integrity, but slip further and further into relative obscurity! It's gonna be awesome!

Also, the Trevorrow article has been updated to say no.

And while you hold onto your integrity, I'll lose mine in a black hole of retcon edits and middle fingers to my fans, while at the same time delivering Jar Jar Binks to the world. I'll then whine about people not appreciating my art and make numerous threats that I'm done with making big movies, that I only want to make small films in my garage that nobody cares about. Then, I'll surprise everyone by taking another beloved franchise and giving that a poor sequel. Then I'll sell it all for $4 billion dollars.

Sorry, Mr Frink, but I've always been warned to stay away from imdb.  It's full of arseholes, apparently.

Your warning is not quite right. Stay away from the comments on imdb. If you stay away from those, it's a great database of actors, directors, films, etc.

And the point is that he's been responsible (fully or partly) for a ton of great stuff.

Looks as though Jason Flemyng may have let something slip in a recent interview...

It appears to be a genuine 'cat out of the bag' moment.  Maybe Millar lied to us about Vaughn being unavailable (wouldn't put it past him).

Wow, exciting! I really enjoyed X-Men: First Class.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Interesting interesting. The tone of the interview is kind of jokey, but it really does seem like a moment of genuine "uhh, shit."

I remember back in the day the rumor that Charlie Hunnam had successfully got the part of Anakin, this was 'backed up' by the line in Queer As Folk where someone says to his character, "Fuck off Anakin Skywalker."

He would have been great. I think Hunnam is one of the best actors working today. He's fantastic in Sons of Anarchy.

Then again, being in AOTC could have ruined any chance of having the career he has today. He's probably glad he didn't get the part.

It really does seem like Flemyng slipped up.  It was good wording from the interviewer.  He asked the question as if it was common knowledge that Vaughn was confirmed.  "Have you chatted to Matthew at all about any Star Wars potential..."  And Flemyng seemed genuine in his giddy responses, until he realized he may have let the cat out of the bag.

I think Vaughn is all but confirmed for Episode VII, which I am more than happy with.  First Class was quite well done (my complaints are with the script, not the direction).  Layer Cake is a great movie and Kick-Ass was enjoyable at the very least.  I think he will be much more of an actor's director than GL was, and I think he will be able to do the old (and new) characters justice.

Flemyng acts like a hyperactive 5 year old in that interview, but he appears to answer all questions posed to him with genuine sincerety and enthusiasm.

I would now be very suprised is Vaughn isn't officially anounced to be the director within the next month or so...

Absolutely love Fincher, but, for Star Wars? I don't know, I've never thought of that before. I'm sure it would be good, it's just, it doesn't seem like his type of gig.

Author
Time

Fincher seems like the same thing as if Nolan directed it: Good directors, but not really Star Wars directors.

Though, I guess if we're talking about stories outside of the normal "Skywalker Saga", you could do stories with tones totally different.

Getting someone who isn't a "SW fanboy" to direct, but who cares solely about taking a good script and putting it on screen in the best way possible, could be a very good thing.

While I feel like Fincher could pull it off (he did effects laden fantasy adventure quite well with Benjamin Button [though I understand that is very different from SW]), I'm going with Tyrphanax on this one.

I would love to see Fincher do a Fincher film in the SW universe.
