After receiving many complaints regarding Jedikev's behavior, I've locked his account temporarily.

After reviewing some of his posts, it seems he's simultaneously a valued contributor and annoying troll. I can't make any sense of it. Most of the complaints center around his use of certain derogatory terms when insulting other members. I'm the last person who would ask someone to be sugar and spice and everything nice on a message board (you should see what I post elsewhere), but I've asked him to tone things down considering the nature of the terms he uses.

I started this thread to notify members of Jedikev's temporary banning and to see what kind of support he might get from the community regarding the reactivation of his account. This is not your opportunity to take cheap shots while he's not here to defend himself. Please be honest and straightforward.

What are your feelings on Jedikev?

That's pretty accurate. I had a big problem with Kev, I thought he was a complete ass, but we have since come to a truce and I think that there is hope for the lad. Maybe this temporary ban will make him see the error of his ways. So I guess what I am saying is give him another chance.

Jay, I share your confusion over this matter. Its not just the derogatory posts IMHO but also the *number* of useless posts. I realize some people do this just increase post counts and ranking but 90% of what I read of his posts are either randomly inflamatory or purely non sequitur. That said, one thing I've noticed is that if people ONLY reply to the occasional lucid post from him than he is less likely to go off on a tangent. Basically if you ignore him he tends to 'play nice' but if you reply to his typical statements than he replies and replies and replies...etc, etc.

I feel he is he for mostly good reasons. Perhaps other forums have had too much influence on him. I know youth is a factor as well. If it weren't for those times when he *does* contribute I'd suggest an full ban. I truly hope no one thinks I'm slamming him here. Maybe a 'cooling off' period will help. Or maybe he'll just find greener pastures.

But basically for ANYONE like this I suggest that if everyone just ignores them they tend to go away on their own.

He is pretty much like an old poster, who shall remain unnamed, who was later banned - in fact so similar I'm almost sure it's the same person. Incredibly childish intolerable abusing, combined with somewhat useful posts and some non-sensical trolling I don't really mind of.

Jay, whatever you decide is fine by me, as I've decided to mostly ignore him.

It's the ratio of usefuleness to uselessness that concerns me. It's tolerable when a useful person has a bad day. It's more annoying when an annoying person has the occasional worthwhile contribution. Occasionally offering something constructive does not excuse being a prick the majority of the time. You earn the right to be a prick and still be considered worthwhile. That's a very important rule of corporate Darwinism.

Personally, I have no beef with the guy whatsoever. He and I get along pretty famously.

I can, however, understand where others are coming from regarding his behavior. He can be pretty vitriolic and offensive. However, it seems that in recent weeks he has tried to clean up his act and be a team player, per se. He still gets a few members worked up and can be pretty off the cuff with some of his comments, but the sheer number of his attacks has toned down.

Recently, he has made some pretty valuable contributions to the board as a whole and I think if he can just work out some of the issues he has with a few members and continue to try to take the higher ground in confrontations, we could have a pretty ideal member here.

I can tell you for a fact that he has been banned numerous times at TF.n for the exact same behavior, and the status of his account is very much up in the air at this point. Not to mention the fact that he admitted in one of his posts there to being a troll here.

I, personally, find a lot of his responses to be droll and unnecessary, and often inflammatory and profrane. He has the *ability* to contribute, but not necessarily the desire.

He seems to have toned it down recently, but still, for every worthwhile things he says, he says something else (or several somethings) that make you wish he'd never found this site. This time around it's not nearly as cut and dry as Jimbo. He COULD make a worthwhile contributer, but normally he just annoys people.

Anywho. I suppose I didn't really help much, but that's my $0.02.

Bingo. Ignore him unless he says something that sounds more intelligent. In that case, you would encourage that and respond to him. But the second he goes off with his "troll-like" posts, simply ignore him. People like him post that way because they seek ATTENTION. When you become all worked up about him and keep responding to his childish posts, that's what he wants. Don't give him what he wants and I predict he will no longer be a problem.

hmm yeah kev, he's a funny little guy. personally i dont min what you do, there are times when i like having him around, he gives me a laugh, but at the same time there are times when he can be annoying.

i hope this isnt a vote to keep him, if it is i say keep him if this is not a vote i dont care.

another thing that concerns me is his constant use of lucASS its just that this site is trying to get lucas to do us a favor i dont think it looks goove if we have people calling him that on the boards. he is not the only one to do this i might add.

one last thing i have noticed that kev mostly does his bad useless posts in the off topic folder not in any of the other places. that my give you and idea for a proper punishment if you want to punish him.

That's right. There is a VERY VERY high possility that people from Lucasfilm check these forums out. How do we know? Because according to MagnoliaFan (who edited the 1st two prequels) someone at Lucasfilm either ordered or somehow "obtained" copies of the edits, liked them, and then invited him to the Ep. III premeire. How did they most likely obtain a copy? Probably by reading these forums.

Everyone thinks that now, what we do here doesn't matter because Lucas will not give us the original trilogy. This is flawed- some of them DO come here. And derrogatory posts will not help whatsoever.

Having banned him multiple times at TFN, I can say that he will not improve his behavior upon return to the boards if unbanned.

OBVIOUSLY I'VE HAD MY SHARE OF PROBLEMS WITH HIM IN THE PAST, BUT WE SEEM TO BE GETTING ALONG JUST FINE FOR NOW. HOWEVER, YOU NEVER KNOW WITH HIM JUST HOW LONG THAT MIGHT LAST. GIVE HIM ANOTHER SHOT. IF IT DOESN'T WORK OUT THEN SEND HIM PACKING. HE HAS TO LEARN SOONER OR LATER.

I've observed his behavior at times and found it to be somewhat amusing, while also getting annoying and rude. As with anyone annoying, if you reply to him and get involved, you're only egging him on. I've seen numerous folks who've felt the need to respond to it when they could simply let it pass and move on. I do believe that if he's being honest about his age that his youth may be a contributing factor. I also feel that he's definitely cooled off in the past few weeks. Perhaps your earlier "discussion" with him has had an impact, and this will also serve to calm him down. IMO: One more chance, then if nothing changes, adios.

My advice to you, JediKev, if you're reading this: take note what the others are saying about you and adjust yourself accordingly. You really do have the ability to be a valued member of this community if you want to be.

I think Kev is highly different from someone like Jimbo. Kev does insult people but usually when he's already embroiled in a fight, rather than just insulting people for no apparent reason (usually). His main problem (but it's not only his) is all the spam-like posts. And there is a lot of Lucas bashing as well, but I can't really see that as a ban-worthy problem. A lot of the same LucASS-based insults without backing them up get slightly irritating, and, even though it's probably not beneficial to the cause, there's essentially nothing wrong with it. But he can make good contributions when he wants to. I've personally never had a problem with him at all. These are all just some observations. It's up to you, but those are just my thoughts.

I think Jedikev needs to do a lot of growing up. Jay, I say do with him what you did with J****. Give him a chance to come back and if he continues to post spam and attack people then a permanent ban may, unfortunatly be necessary. For the rest of us (if he comes back and attacks people and spams), until Jay makes a decision I suggest we ignore him. I hope a perm ban is not needed, but if what jedimasterousley said is correct, it may be the only solution.

on topic, give the guy a break. Some people like to have a place where they can be be freely anonymous. And even the smallest amount of decent insight in any number of posts is worth not banning someone. (How many idiots do you think any proffesion puts up with becuase every once in a while they have one good idea, out of what? hundreds?) And please don't talk like he isn't reading these posts, because you know he is.
