I’m just curious if you enjoy the twist being preserved or the removal of episode 1 more?

That’s a pretty dumb question. Frink has made it clear he hates the prequels regardless. Why would he give a damn about the benefits of the Machete order?

Asshole. It was an honest question. Some of you guys are so hostile on this forum.

Also, cutting Episode 1 is important because you reduce the time of suffering through the prequels by 2 hours.

Does that answer your question? Personally I would recommend you to try Super Machete order, where you cut Clones, too. But my absolute favorite order is Mega Machete, you place the prequels between episodes 5 and 6 and then you remove them entirely.

My position is more nuanced than that.

I had an idea for an order but never tried it

4-5-6-1-2-3-Sp4-Sp5-Sp6-7

I don’t go in for the Rister/Machete order. I have no use for it because I’m so familiar with these movies that preserving the twist has no value, and I’ve only ever had one marathon with newbies who weren’t content to stick to the OT for the first dose and revisit the PT at a later date (we did indeed end up doing Machete for that). Still, I’ll play ball.

Star Wars in isolation: Theatrical cut with '77 crawl
OT marathon: Theatrical, SW with '81 crawl
Complete saga, release order: Theatrical OT ('81 crawl for ANH), theatrical PT, theatrical TFA
Complete saga, chronological order: '11 PT, '04 or '11 OT, theatrical TFA
Rister/Machete: Same as chronological, minus TFA
OT plus ST: Theatrical (SW w/'81 crawl) or '97 OT, theatrical TFA (and VIII and IX eventually)

The presence of the OT Blu-rays might appear disconcerting, but I almost never do those viewing orders anyway. '97 OT with TFA isn’t something I’ve actually done, but I’m planning to give it a go once Team Blu finishes their version.

My niece and I had a good experience seeing the films for her first time in what I like to call the Obi-Wan order (or flashback order): 4,5,1,2,3,6 (7 hadn’t come out yet).
It let her see ANH first as is proper, then go on to experience the ongoing drama and surprises of ESB. Only at the reveal, which genuinely took her by surprise, did we jump back to the prequel trilogy. (I wouldn’t consider the machete order a viewing order since it skips a movie; if you’re gonna skip one, why not skip all three prequels?) After we see Anakin become the villain we learned he was, we jump back to Luke’s journey to rescue Han and go on to confront his father in the climactic conclusion.

And I also agree that at this point a person’s ideal order for induction should be 4,5,6,1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Watch the original trilogy, then wait a while. Then see the prequels, then originals, then go onwards from there. If you like, use OUT for the first one and (fanhandled versions of) the SEs for the post-prequel viewing.
Can that be a new term we use? Fanhandling?

My stance on revising fan edits.

At this point, I’m thinking when I have kids or nieces/nephews (who unless my siblings marry Star Wars fanatics I will undoubtedly have the responsibility of introducing to Star Wars), I’m just going to skip the prequels. We’ll have, judging by the quality of TFA, two good trilogies to watch, and maybe a few of these spinoffs which could serve to quench any thirst they might have for a backstory if they’re good.

I do think Original Trilogy-Prequels-Special Editions-TFA is probably the best way to go for a completist these days if you don’t want to skip a film or two and you don’t want to interrupt a trilogy, but also don’t want to jump straight from 3 to 7 or start with the prequels. It gives you the most complete overview of Star Wars possible, the good the bad and the ugly. If you’re new to it all you won’t “miss out” on getting the references to things like Jar Jar and “Han shot first” and you’ll understand the movies in more or less the same context the rest of us did. You’ll be able to easily form your own opinion on George’s “vision” and the direction Disney is taking it from there.

But for me I’d just go 4-5-3-6-7 if I was going to watch them now as I like the flashback effect of the 5-3-6 order and don’t believe either of the first two prequels is necessary for that, at least not when you’ve already seen them all before. Might not work as well for a first time viewer, not sure. But it’s the most satisfying dramatic experience for me from a storytelling perspective.
