Aren't those things also in the 95 laserdiscs?

Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…

I believe so then again I never owned a Laserdisc player. Either VHS or DVD.

SW: Harmy, Team Blu GOUT '77 and '97 HD
ESB: Harmy, Adywan '97 HD
ROTJ: Harmy (sadly there isn’t a standout '97 preservation for Jedi)

I like to watch the '97 version because I grew up with the 2000 rerelease box set of all things. I recently watched the DE all the way through to experience the OUT and there’s a chance I may never go back.

I mostly watch the letterboxed 95 VHS tapes or Harmy’s Despecialized Editions of the OT since it’s really the original unaltered versions of the OT that deserves more credit than the SE’s.

By the way Han shot first.

Do you feel the call to the light when you watch Harmy’s?

Yes you could say that I have felt the awakening… The awakening of disappointed fans when there is no official release of the unaltered versions of the OT on BD. One day Harmy woke up saw the unaltered versions and said “Nothing will stand in our way. We will finish what you started”

By the way Han shot first.

Sometimes you have to wonder if Lucas predicted that within a few years that VHS would be obsolete and thus the unavailability of the OUT would become a reality, at least until he gave into studio pressure in 2006. You have to remember DVD didnt exist yet when the ‘Faces’ sets were released.

Usually Harmy’s, but I’m not married to one particular version. I even pop in the official blu-ray from time to time (usually when the prequels are involved).

The Special Edition of The Wizard Of Oz is proof of what a Special Edition is supposed to be.

What’s so special about it?

I am Italian and I grew up watching the OT in the late 80’s-early 90’s; my father recorded them from tv with a Philips Video2000, and until it worked, I kept watching the three films on those tapes.
Then came the time of the special editions, and I was quite disappointed about them, so I decided to never buy any home edition of the OT in its new version. When the 2006 limited edition was out I was ready to purchase it, but then I discovered that the opening titles were not translated in my language for the theatrical version, so eventually I didn’t. I start by saying that I haven’t any problem with English, but you gotta know that the Italian version of the original saga, as other non-English versions, has a translated title that is “Guerre stellari” instead of Star Wars, and what is more, some of the names were changed for the Italian audience, and many fans like me are attached to the latter.
So in the end, after a long research about the several releases, I bought second hand from a fan the original OT of 1995 vhs widescreen Italian edition, so that I can watch

  1. the original theatrical version in 16:9 instead of the classic 4:3 format for vhs
  2. the version with the previous Italian logo and with Italian opening titles

That makes me a very happy OT’s fan 😃

I watch faces set just because my computer sucks too much to be able to download Harmy’s.

When TFA comes out I kinda wanna record it on VHS so the difference between VHS and Blu would be jarring when I marathon them.

PT: Q2’s Fall of the Jedi
OT: Harmy’s Despecialized

On occasion Adywan’s ANH:R

My purpose when watching Star Wars is to watch the unaltered original trilogy, and to watch an altered prequel trilogy that is more consistent with the OT.

Q2’s Episode III allows Leia to remember her mother, and never mentions the name Vader nor shows the suit. This (among other changes it includes) makes it a must-have for me. The only qualm I have with his Episode I is removing Anakin from the battle against the Droid Control Ship, but I will accept that change if it means having everything else.

I’ve watched half a dozen or so other fan editors’ prequel edits, and only Q2 has the Episode III that genuinely makes me smile and happy to watch it again and again.

All of my own variations.
ANH-Telecines epiv but with Janna and Biggs scene edited out.
ESB-Basically telecine’s but with the added SE shot of the slave in the asteroid field edited out, dynamic lighting added to the shot of Luke underneath the walker to make it dark, then I bump the contrast when he lights his saber so that it’s blade is white but the rest remains dark. “You’re lucky you don’t taste very good” and “bring my shuttle” restored, and extra scenes added for the SE near the end removed.
ROTJ-Telecine’s but fanedited a bit. Basically a rough draft of my eventual fanedit

TN1’s Silver Screen edition is destined to be in heavy rotation for me as soon as someone syncs it with a 5.1 mix.

STAR WARS: Krieg der Sterne [German Despecialized Edition 2.5]
EMPIRE: Das Imperium schlägt zurück [German Despecialized Edition 2.1]
JEDI: Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter [German Despecialized Edition 2.5]

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Depends on the mood but these are the ones I usually go to.
I have many, many different versions of each film but these are the ones I watch most:

The Phantom Menace:
VHS or BD.

Attack of the Clones:
VHS, ADigitalMan’s Extended Version or BD

Revenge of the Sith:
VHS (yes, really) or BD

A New Hope:
'92 VHS release (OOT), '97 Laserdisc or '06 Limited Edition release

The Empire Strikes Back:
'92 VHS release (OOT) or '11 BD

Return of the Jedi:
'92 VHS release (OOT) or '06 Limited Edition release

The Force Awakens:
BD, if I have to…

I very rarely meddle in fan edits or preservations, the only ones I regularly go to in that regard are the ADM Extended versions, but that’s it. Part of being a massive SW home video collector also includes an annoying tendency to not want to watch any of the films in a format other than official releases, for reasons that make very little sense.

Correct answers.

I get watching the prequels, but for goodness sakes people, find a decent edit for them. Do not watch the Blu-rays or DVDs. And what are you doing bothering with a theatrical reconstruction of them anyway?

I want to watch the original versions of the movies.

The one small cut change in AOTC doesn’t bother me.
