If this is a verboten topic, please just delete it and forget I asked.

Remember that really popular and now safely dead torrent site Suprnova? Remember that they had some torrents of laserdisc rips of the OT?

Well, does anyone know which of the various rips they were? TR47? They were non anamorphic and had “Definitive Collection” logos, commentaries, easter eggs, etc. For some reason ESB even had dolby digital sound.

Just curious which ones they were.

From your description.....
"Definitive Collection" logos, commentaries, easter eggs, etc.
.....the set sounds like the Dr Gonzo version that has been around the torrent sites for a while.

However, that version is anamorphic.

The Quality Broth Release Group version has also been around the torrent sites for a while but that version has none of the extras you mention.

The TR47 version in its original form has no menus, logos, easter eggs etc

4 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 2

Well I'm almost certian they're not anamorphic since when I played them in a software DVD player they had the black bars. But a friend played them on his Xbox and the picture filled out his HDTV screen - I figured the Xbox just took care of the zooming for you.

Also - is there a topic on this board that polls which ones people think are best?

Not that I'm aware of, but it would be interesting to have a list of sorts. I'm sure Rikter could provide a lot of NFO files for this purpose.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

First of all, anamorphic discs do sometimes have the black bars, just not as big as the 4:3 would, because the film aspect ratio is not always 16:9, it may also be ~2.5:1. That being said, the Dr.Gonzo set does have black bars also, just not as wide as the TR47 set.
One good way to see if it is anamorphic or not is to capture a frame with a player and see it's aspect ratio.
Secondly, in my experience, if someone does not know which version he has, he most definatelly has the Gr.Gonzo set.
And last, the versions that have easter eggs IIRC are: a)Dr.Gonzo b)EditDroid (only the ANH disc) and c)Isomix.
Isomix does not have a commentary track, and EditDroid hasn't been around for so long, so there is only one logical conclusion...
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Sounds good. Now I know which set not to persue anymore
