Luke smiled at the force ghost of anakin out of kindness, he didn't even know that was Anakin. That's my guess.
Im-a just step in right here to reiterate the point I made earlier about
CRAY-CRAY!!!!!!!

I'm just saying that the ghost Anakin is not recognizably the dying Anakin. I am not saying that Luke (and the audience) would not realize who the ghost was supposed to be.
100% correct.
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Yes. They were removed for the SE (though I don't recall which SE, there are so damn many of them now).

And that's your opinion. I say the two are easily relatable.

Well in fact you said Luke would not recognise the ghost which is the same thing as not realising it (or if we are really precise recognition is an essential step before realisation).

So it is an issue of semantics.
This discussion has drifted so far away from what I originally wanted to say about it that I feel there is no need for me to participate further.
You're all wrong - Luke's actually smiling at Lucas while he writes him a check; the ghosts are looking at from a totally different angle and Anakin's ghost is just some man they picked off the street to watch the filming of the movie.

As a kid who often failed to notice the obvious, I still had no problem recognizing Anakin's ghost as being one and the same person as the withered old prune in Vader's armour. The only thing I wasn't sure of was whether Ghost Anakin had hair or not.
When he has his eyebrows he's quite recognizable as the same dude:
Maybe in the next SE update we can get Hayden-in-the-Vader-suit Force Ghost.

The OOT ending of ROTJ didn't make sense anyway. Why was anakin suddenly a normal guy instead of bald and pasty white? I don't mind most of the retcons of the Special Editions so I hope they follow that.
By your reckoning then, why wasn't Obi-Wan just half a person?
The original OOT ending made perfect sense. A hell of a lot more sense that having Hayden in there.

That was a deleted scene where obiwan was cut in half. Officially obiwan turned into a force ghost before the light sabre hit him.
It doesn't matter because Hayden was never redeemed. Old Anakin was the one who killed the Emperor. Therefore old Anakin was the force ghost.
Interestingly, there's a lot of people who thinks young Anakin makes sense. However, was anyone really confused who that old guy was at the end? Has Lucas ever made a statement regarding the matter?
They certainly weren't once the action figure was out. ;)

An alternate take, even if it was changed up a bit, is still an alternate take, not a deleted scene.

I'd forgotten about that! Interestingly, they made some older Anakin figures for the POTF line, including a force ghost. Have they made a Hayden ghost action figure?
If you mean the shot seen in The Making of Star Wars, where the practical FX didn't work, and the cloak caught fire, that's a blooper. ;)

I'm not sure why I wrote "alternate take." I think I just meant it was from a "different take."

Yes, but it's not very good. I don't recall him being this sparkly. ;)
It's hilarious the card photo looks better than the movie.

They even gave him a light saber. At least the facial expression is accurate. ;-)

In that case, the DVD version worsened the problem.
I don't know if Episode VII will reference anything from the SEs (though I doubt it will), but I know that VIII and IX won't, as they are being written by Rian Johnson, an avowed SE hater.
That still leaves room for visual references.
Well he's also directing at least VIII and probably IX too.
Isn't the Muppet Show episode with Luke, Artoo and Threepio with Chewie kidnapped by weird turkeys considered canon?
“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”
