Which editing program do you use and why?

I'v always used Adobe Premier because I'v found it easy to use but recently Iv just stopped editing because its such a pig to use.

So after doing some research it seems that a few people use Sony Vegas and in particular, use this program to edit 5.1.

How would you rate Vegas? Better than Premier Pro?

Your opinions are much appreciated.

Depends what you want to do, on the PC I tend to use Premiere Pro and After Effects and Combustion depending on the requirements.
On the Mac FCP and shake and combustion.
I've never liked the workflow in Vegas, but that is really a personal choice thing.

If you want something F-A-S-T, install ubuntu linux as a dual boot and run cinelerra (it is free) and you may never look at premiere or vegas again.

Could you explain to me how you do a dual boit. I have never messed with linux. Do I have to have 2 hard drives or can I do a dual boot on one hard drive?

You do not need two hard drives. You just have to make sure that your Windows system partition does not take up the whole disk. Then you can boot from your Ubuntu CD.

I chose Vegas because I was looking for a program that would do a AC3 soundtrack. After working with it for a while, I found it easy to do some very powerful effects. I also really like the ease with which I can layer several streams of audio and video for neat transitions and combinations.

I only use Premeire when I need to stabilize video footage.

Only one drive is required, you may need to use partition magic or a similar program to resize your windows partition to leave some space for a Linux partition.

It is pretty easy to setup and well worth it, a lot of people are happy to run pirate software but with linux you don't have to...

Just google "dual boot ubuntu tutorial" without the quotes and you will find guides, if you like 'eye of the tiger' then use this one :^)
