The 2004 dvd did have it's good side such as the restoration and picture. I hated some of the changes like adding Hayden. But the 1997 SE was the one I really hated because of Greedo shooting first and the awfull Jabba. But I just wish the O-OT could come to dvd.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side

Emperor Jar-Jar
“Back when we made Star Wars, we just couldn’t make Palpatine as evil as we intended. Now, thanks to the miracles of technology, it is finally possible. Finally, I’ve created the movies that I originally imagined.” -George Lucas on the 2007 Extra Extra Special HD-DVD Edition

neither. both left a lot to be desired. Botch jobs and ruination of originals.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

2004 DVD due to improvemets on Greedo Jabba etc, could maybe live with Christensen maybe if hes performance was better( but dont like the idea) ,but thats an issue covered elsewhere, and the transfer, though none of these special editions match the O.O.T of course.....................

pro 2004 Edition:
-for whatever you might say about Lucas' irrational devotion to SFX and image quality, you have to admit, they look pretty amazing (clarity, color accuracy, etc.)
-better Jabba (why they couldn't get him to the quality of his PM counterpart I can't figure ...) and other CG characters
-Ian McDiarmid in ESB
-Updated ROTJ ending celebrations
-Han is getting closer to shooting first again LOL

things I didn't care for:
-Anakin's ghost - that's fairly unforgivable IMHO
-green lightsaber in ANH? How did this happen? and lightsaber inconsistencies in other scenes ...

Other than that, the changes seemed pretty minor. Honestly, I don't see how refusing to release the O-OT gets Lucas more money. I think it's a case of an "artist" being too interested in pleasing himself to accept outside input. That can be seen as a good or bad thing ... personally, I wish I could have a nice transfer of the films as they originally were. LOL, but somehow, I don't think that's an original thought on these boards.

LMAO!!! But, you've gotta admit, at least Lucas met us halfway and made Greedo and Han shoot at about the same time.

-Ian McDiarmid in ESB

Too bad it was done so poorly and looks like it was filmed in 5 minutes and shoved in. I still prefer the original-- it's a short enough scene and I still like it better.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Myself, this is the order I prefer the versions of the films.

1. 2004 DVD Versions
2. Original Versions
3. 1997 Versions

Well, for starters please read my signiture (lol)

Im young, I was'nt around durring the 1977,1980, or 1983 releases, hell, I was born ALONG TIME after that. But when I was 5 I came accross I box of tapes in the garage.
The tapes looked cool, one had this big picture of some black masked guy, and a picture of 2 space ships, and on the back, a guy that looked like my grandpa with a big lasersword. I found in the box a tape with a big picture of a masked guy in all white, and abunch of people running away from big metal elephants, and on the last video, i saw a picture of a small goblin creature, and that black masked guy again with some old guy and some other guy.
These were the THX faces collection.
Later, I learned that the black masked guy was the Sith Lord Darth Vadar, father of LUKE SKYWALLKER, and that was an X-Wing fighter, battleing an X1-Advanced TIE FIGHTER on the DEATH STAR, and that man being OBI-WAN KENOBI, former master of the Sith Lord Darth Vadar, father of LUKE SKYWALLKER,
and that the masked villan on the.......................
well you get what I mean.
Well, I watched these tapes for 7 years, on and off, they were the FULL SCREEN editoins, and they got badly worn, but I would still watch them, over and over again. 1997 passed and I did not know anything of the SPECIAL GOD HATES IT EDITIONS, intil about 2004, when I heared their was going to be a DVD of the orginal trillogy. Well, enough of my rambling, heres my list.

1.THE ORIGINAL ORIGINAL ORIGINAL G-DAM IT ORIGINAL TRILLOGY
I was always thinking how cool Han was, for shooting that stupid weird alien that wanted to take his favorite toy (ship) and all his money., FIRST
I always liked the O-OT battle, even though the rehash might be better, and I watch it from time to time, the stiff ships of the O-OT are better, atleast to me, not the going all over the place really fast manuvering spinning ships of the 2004.
Re-insert the TATOOINE Biggs scene into the new O-OT Dvds to make it seem more sense.(the Yavin biggs scene. Its cool non the less, I have a batered version of the Tattoine scene on DVD anyway.
ESB, alright.
ROTJ...
the music video is stupid. We go to a grimmmm setting then to a big DIDGT,JSFAGICO SETCHA! music video thats really stiupid and up beat, then back to the grimmmmmm setting. I think that would belong perfect in the AOTC cantina scene, not here lol.

Well, the only thing I really love in the 2004/97 (even though I havnt seen it, im planning to get it soon) version of ROTJ is celebration. I loved it. The music and the corosant, and everything is perfect. plus I love the trumpet/horn ending right before the credits. It seems more like our group of heros have really done somthing. LIKE SAVE THE GALAXY,NOT ABUNCH OF TEDDY BEARS lol
Comment, please.
BTW THIS IS MY FIRST POST!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH BETTER THAN TFN.COM! NO MODS AND ANYTHING GOES!

I have not seen the SE's (97) but I heard they were good...in fact I saw a brandnew box over at a store for 15.00...damn I should have picked it up so I have all 3 releases....no one (almost) likes the SE's so mabe its still there...I saw both the gold and silver (fullsecreen-widescreen) versions, BUT, for some reason an un-opened set of the O-OT (THX FACES) for 50.00!!
Wow.

The Faces set was at a store?! I mean, I already have it (although a widescreen version would kick ass), but the thought of that rocks my socks off!

If anyone here wants to buy the special edition versions of the Star Wars trilogy, here's a report from DVDFile.com.

LucasFilm and Fox have announced that they're repackaging and re-releasing a Star Wars Trilogy Limited Edition box set on 6 December; it will cost $49.98. These are the special edition versions of episodes 4 through 6, and will be available in both full-frame and widescreen editions. The fourth bonus disc from last year's box set is not included; this is a 3-disc set.
