Info Wanted: Which Star Wars edits do you recommend?

Hi, I notice a lot of different fan edits of the Star Wars Trilogy. Which one would you say is the best? I like ones that try to preserve the original as much as possible while getting rid of continuity errors i.e. the missing cloak when Luke ignites his lightsaber, bad effects corrected, color correction, etc.

If you are looking for continuity errors being corrected, subtle little fixes and respectful FX tweaks etc then Adywan's ANH:R (And forthcoming ESB:R) are the way to go.

If you want preservation of the OT, go for Harmy's Despecialised Editions of the Trilogy.

I alternate between these two ^ very happily (Depending on my mood).

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I'm glad this thread still exists, because I've seen options for a lot of Phantom Menace edits and I'd like to get some recommendations on which ones are the best.

I have seen the Phantom Edit, which is good but also outdated in terms of video quality.

I liked Slumberland and JasonN's edits but you'd probably see them as dated now too.

It has to be Frink.

L8wrtr's is my favorite.  Q2, Hal9000, and Seciors all get good reviews as well, although I haven't seen any of them myself.  All are in HD.

L8wrtr's and Hal's are both very good in my book. Honestly just check out IFDb and you'll be able to get a good sense of quality from the reviews and content from the cut lists.

Is there a fan edit of Episode IV that contains the deleted scenes with Biggs and friends?

I know that they don't contain music and are scratchy in quality, but I'd love to see a version that shows a Luke Skywalker who loses more than just an Aunt, Uncle and a crazy Jedi who he just met. Losing his lifelong best friend makes it more poignant when he turns away from the darkside.

War of the Stars, maybe.  Though it might be different than what you are looking for.

Well here are fan edits which I think are good and that I have seen.

Star Wars: Episode II: Attack Of The Phantom - The Phantom Editor

This fan edit is so genius that is actually turns AOTC into a good movie, it is a old and classic fan edit. Also it comes with a commentary which will teach you how to become a better editor.

Star Wars: Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi The Dan Edit - Yads

A simple fan edit which just makes ROTJ into a stronger film, it removes alot of the jokey and childish elements and makes it a much darker film. Made by one of my good friends on this site.

What's your opinion on SW Revisited?

 Worthy of its own thread.

I was scared there for a second before looking at the thread, that the terminator came back.  Goodness, he was a ridiculous fellow.

JEDIT: still find it hilarious to see "I'll be back!!" grayed out.

I tweaked the yads edit of RotJ.  There were three versions of it and I used the Boba Fett-less one for my main but included the sister act.  I set it up so that Yoda dies saying that there is another Skywalker but Luke doesn't know the identity until the end duel on Death Star II.  Vader senses Leia being shot via the Force and does the math about everyone's relationship and it is a revelation to everyone in the room.

I like this Idea of Vader being the one to break the news... I can see how it will work too. Very nice idea. Hats off

Thanks for the compliment, Ronster.

What works really well with the scene is that the news is just freshly dumped on Luke and then Vader says, if you won't turn to the dark side then perhaps she will and then Luke.  Loses.  His.  S***.  And it absolutely makes sense, much moreso than in the original version where Luke already knew the brother - sister thing so it wasn't a shock.

 So you recommend your own?

Ok, I recommend mine then. ;-)

The yads/danedits are really good, I, well, I tweaked them.  When you author something sometimes when you look at your own work you know in your mind how you want it to be and you see the finished product it's the finished product and your vision...it's sometimes hard to spot the forest for the trees.  When I watched these the progression to the Vader reveal was pretty obvious to me and I even commented on it on the thread for it.  I felt based on the editors reaction that they weren't going to act on my suggestion so I went ahead and fixed it myself.  I can't really recommend my own edit as I haven't put it out there.

Now I'm picturing the Terminator hunting down fan editors, or attempting to. He might break into a film museum, head to the 2001: A Space Odyssey display, and incinerate the Hal9000 display.

My stance on revising fan edits.
