Where will the movie be released next Wednesday BTW (except from France)?

Finland and I’m going! 😃 You can see all the countries in IMDB.

So will it be:
-Not dubbed but in 3D, by myself plus a four-hour drive
-Or much nearer to my place and with a friend but in French and in 2D?

The drive will be part of the adventure.

Myself and my youngest son are booked for the comfy seats in our local multiplex on the afternoon of 17th Dec. 😃

We’ve chosen a 2d showing as our first viewing, and will see it again a couple of days later with the rest of the family, before Christmas - again in 2d.

At some point during it’s run, some of us are intending to go back and see it in 3D also.

(I had hoped to see it on the biggest screen here for my first viewing, but it’s going to be used exclusively for 3D screenings only, so I’ll have to wait to see it on that - still, our other screens are plenty big too!)

By the way, it’s a nice touch to have a ‘countdown clock’ attached to the site now, and the anticipation is rising. I’ve managed to avoid the last couple of trailers (especially the latest Chinese one, which I believe showed off quite a bit), and was able to dodge a lot of spoiler-ish articles so far. Unfortunately, I was doing some recent Christmas shopping in a local toystore, and inadvertantly spotted something at their ‘Star Wars’ display, which I was trying to avoid - I won’t say what it was, but it was certainly something I hadn’t expected, and I wish I’d seen it for the first time in the movie itself… Never mind, I know very little about it all so far, compared to when ‘The Phantom Menace’ came out.

Also, I wonder how the intro. to this movie is going to play out? - no 20th Century Fox logo (or fanfare either, I guess) this time around. The new Lucasfilm logo is ‘black’ now (I preferred the previous ‘rainbow/golden’ version, personally)…but will we get an additional Disney logo of any kind mixed in?..or a Bad Robot one? And will it even have the standard yellow ‘STAR WARS’ main title, chapter heading, and scroll over a starfield?..or will it be altered somehow? Will J.J. have the main title coming towards us, instead of receding away?..who knows?..but I look forward to hearing the first bars of John Williams’ familiar score boom out on the big screen once again, and can’t wait to hear what he’s come up with for this latest instalment.

Finally…in this age of pre-booking, it’s kinda heart-warming to know this tradition is alive and well - and I take my hat off to these dedicated guys and gals. Don’t let them down J.J. !! - www.nytimes.com/2015/12/09/movies/star-wars-the-force-awakens-fans-are-already-lining-up.html

Bob Iger said there will not be a Disney logo at the front of the movie.

I hope it’s just the Lucasfilm logo with no sound and nothing else.

Everything else will undoubtedly be the same, though. There’s no good reason it wouldn’t be.

Glad to hear about the lack of a Disney logo. 😃

And I also like the notion of complete silence with only the Lucasfilm logo and usual ‘a long time ago…’ wording, until the main theme finally blasts out.

It would have been awesome if Disney had worked something out with Fox. Nothing gets the heart pumping like the old Fox fanfare with Cinemascope extension.

I was hoping to see it at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood in IMAX but only if it was going to be in 70mm. But since it’s only in 3D I’m sticking with my local multiplex with seven of my buddies. This suits me just fine.

I’m going to see it in French first for nostalgic purposes 😃 Then I’ll probably watch it again in English.
Plus, they seem to have put a lot of efforts and money into the making of this dub. Disney actually installed a retinal scan machine so nobody but the related crew can get into the studios. They spent about 80 grand in this gear. It’s pretty impressive how far they can go for anti-piracy nowadays.
Anyway, I’m watching this in Dolby Atmos so it’s all good! 😉

I’m gonna watch it in French on Wednesday at 10:40am (I’ve finally bought the tickets). And in English the moment they schedule it. I guess it won’t be that terrible in its dubbed version anyway :3 But I have no idea if Dolby Atmos or whatever. I won’t post my opinion about the movie (or anything at all related to it for that matter) until next week, I promise 😄

In what city will you watch it?

I’ll watch TFA in a Gaumont Cinéma in Toulouse. They just freshly installed brand new Atmos systems, comfy seats, bigger screen and a more powerful projector. I basically can’t wait, haha!

So, where will you experience it? 😉

I probably won’t see it until the bluray comes out. Theaters make me claustrophobic.

I actually hate the theatres. First, the visual aspect is really bad. Projection just ruins the colours and picture. Going from my 4K LED PC display to a projector is like going from driving a Ferrari to riding a horse. Secondly, I don’t like people around me eating, drinking, laughing, screaming and talking.

Yes, I am sort of spoiled.

I waited too long to get my tickets and all of the best theaters with assigned seating are pretty much taken unless I want to sit in the front row. I will be going on Saturday night at 7:45 PM in an IMAX 3D theater with first come first served seating and I plan to be there early. I would have rather seen it in 2D with Atmos sound but this was the next best option with what was left to choose from. Regardless, I am sure I will forget about all of that once the movie starts.

How early would you guys recommend arriving, anyway? I don’t have any idea what to expect. I’m going on Thursday at 7:30 to the Showcase in Worcester, MA, which isn’t a very big theater (no IMAX), but is bigger than anything in the surrounding towns - I live about half an hour away, but I bought my tickets for there because none of the closer theaters use MovieTickets.com or Fandango and they couldn’t tell me when they were going to start selling advance tickets when I called. I’m thinking a lot of people in my area may have gone the same route. I really wish there was some way to gauge how mobbed it’ll be in advance. I’ll be damned if after all this waiting I end up in the front row.

That’s why I usually never go to the theatre (yes, I’m grumpy). Hope tomorrow there won’t be too much crowd.

Exactly. I think watching it at home will be a better experience. I have a 65 inch hdtv, which isn’t huge, but it’s nothing to sneeze at and it has a great picture. The way the room is set up makes for a very theater experience. Plus I can spike my drinks and poke smot!

The electric feel of a Star Wars opening weekend crowd is clearly lost on some. 😉

I agree. Sometimes there’s no substitute for being part of a cultural event. I saw Star Wars more times than I can count back in 77. While it wasn’t the insanity three months removed, during those early days I was part of the mass crowds and 400’ long lines. Same for the midnight showings of Empire (still remember it well). A day off to battle opening day crowds for Return in 83.

No substitute for those markers on the timeline. Looking forward to this one even more. It’s been a very long time coming. Wouldn’t miss it.

You forgot about the volume being generally too loud, the bad acoustic of the whole theatrical room, the fact that you can’t pause the movie whenever you want to pee and obviously the stupid commercials and trailers you don’t wanna see. Oh! And you can’t sit wherever you want at the theater… there is always a random guy sitting at the exact spot you wanted to be.

As early as you can tolerate to be part of the experience and get in the line first. I expect mass chaos. I plan to be about an hour early.

I’ve got the day off, so I think I’m going to drive by the theater several hours early to see if there’s a line. If there is I’ll get in it, if there isn’t there’s a couple of museums in town and an enormous comic shop I can kill time at. I’m realizing that I’ve never had the chance to do a Star Wars premiere properly (I was 9, 12, and 15 for the prequels, so I could never drive myself to the very first showing), so I’m kind of looking forward to the experience, discomfort and all.

Probably on bootleg 😄, but consider it a preview: I’ll immediately buy its official blu-ray if I’ll find the movie objectively worth it, but I’m not throwing the little money I have at Disney just for the sake of it :\

Piracy is piracy. Doesn’t matter how it’s explained away.

Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t get a warning for that post.

Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t mention the precise misuse of the word “objectively”.

Anyway, if anyone wants to protest Disney making a Star Wars film, the best and most morally sound way to do it is just not see the film. If, more likely, you have no idea what you think, you can chance it and choose whether or not you’ll pay to see it. Just like any other movie.

Well, I’m not protesting against Disney’s decision to make a sequel, but considering it had been done under Disney (known for copy-pasted movies) and Abrams (whose talent I still don’t recognize), I’m not sure it will be a movie worth my money (maybe 18-24€ is ok for most families, but not for ours). If I can’t preview it in any way, I just won’t see the film then. I guess I’ll have to rely on your opinions to see if it’s a worth movie, but this means spoiling the plot, of course :\

P.S.: Could you explain what’s wrong with the word “objectively”? 😄 Bad grammar or little confidence in my judgement?
