Where/How will you see TFA? — Page 2

I’m pumped, my first viewing is gonna be 70mm IMAX at the Indiana State Museum. It’s the 4am showing on Saturday the 19th, but I had to wait for my December work schedule to buy tickets and all the good seats were sold out of any more reasonable showing time.

Also, I’m traveling 1014 miles to see it there, so I tried my best to have the flights work with me only spending one night there. Would’ve liked to go there and back in one day, but that was pretty much impossible.

I also searched high and low to find a theater that I could guarantee would NOT be projecting it on a dome and this was the closest I could find that worked within my work schedule.

To see a movie in 70mm again after all these years, a dome is a small price to pay.

Yeah, if my choices were either see it on a dome or don’t see it in 70mm at all, I’d certainly choose the dome. But I’ve seen non-dome formatted IMAX films projected on a dome before, and it’s really not ideal. I’m fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go to a non-dome IMAX and guarantee that I’ll see it in what I consider the absolute best possible theatrical experience. I’m really excited about it! I was pretty much going to have fly somewhere to see it in 15/70, so I might as well pick the best one I can get to. It didn’t matter to me which city it was in.

Probably on bootleg 😄, but consider it a preview: I’ll immediately buy its official blu-ray if I’ll find the movie objectively worth it, but I’m not throwing the little money I have at Disney just for the sake of it :\

Piracy is piracy. Doesn’t matter how it’s explained away.

Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t get a warning for that post.

Again, mods are not omniscient. And anybody joking, (or not) about pirating TFA around here, better be prepared to produce a ticket stub before they comment on their first viewing of the film.

The 18th at 2:30 PM in my local theater. 4K, dubbed, 3D…, ATMOS!!!
New bigger screen and freshly installed comfy seats.
It’s gonna be great!

“English, motherf***er! Do you speak it!?”

Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t mention the precise misuse of the word “objectively”.

Anyway, if anyone wants to protest Disney making a Star Wars film, the best and most morally sound way to do it is just not see the film. If, more likely, you have no idea what you think, you can chance it and choose whether or not you’ll pay to see it. Just like any other movie.

It’s going to be interesting to see if there are any bitter fans sitting out in the cold, with signs proclaiming they are boycotting the film. 😉

Please tell me that’s a typo.

Unfortunately not. It was the only showing that still had really good seats available and fit within my schedule. I’m flying in the day before and spending the night. I’ll go to the movie first thing and then fly home. It’s not terrible (at least to me) because I often have to wake up at ungodly early hours for work. So waking up at 3am to make the movie by 4 isn’t too big of a deal. And it’s a small price to pay to get the best possible seat at the best possible viewing experience…

FWIW, imax.com showed them also having a 7am showing, which I would’ve much preferred. But I couldn’t find the link to buy tickets for that time and when I contacted the theater they said they hadn’t officially added a 7am showtime as they were still evaluating the need for it based on demand. As of this posting they still haven’t added a 7am show.

Well at least that would be a proper way to support their cause (no matter how stupid the cause may be). We have many bitter fans of theatrical release around here who were still buying the altered releases. Buying them for the sake of being on the legal side to possess fan edits doesn’t really help the cause. On contrary, it practically means supporting Lucas and his altered releases.

But why not stay true to the cause by not buying altered releases at all and still stay on the right side of the law by not possessing fan edits?

Well you could boycott the altered releases and make precisely zero difference in the sales of those releases and cry to yourself that the best legal way to watch your favorite movies is a shitty LD transfer (GOUT), OR you could suck it up, buy the blu-rays, and then enjoy Harmy’s Despecialized all you want until LFL finally puts out the unaltered set.

Well one could boycott the altered releases, stay true to his/her principles and support the cause with a clear conscious, from a moral high ground. Or one can buy the altered releases and try to support the cause as a hypocrite.

Being a man of principles is never easy. It always comes with a sacrifice.

Also a good way to freeze your ass off, and look like idiots on the local news. 😉

In any case, you’re getting off topic.

To get back on topic, I feel sad and torn about the way I’m gonna watch the movie: DUBBED… Or I could have a four-hour two-way drive to watch it in English, but in 3D only.

That’s the price to pay when your contrypeople have a reputation of being not good at foreign languages, leading to systematic dubbing of movies (but I ain’t saying I don’t like this country, au contraire) :3
Problem is that in smaller cities (like the one I live in) non-dubbed movies are not always an option.

So will it be:
-Not dubbed but in 3D, by myself plus a four-hour drive
-Or much nearer to my place and with a friend but in French and in 2D?

The question remains… 😄

I just happened to be in Paris (capital of the Federation) visiting my sister the week JJ’s Star Trek reboot came out in France and Belgium a couple days before anywhere else. We were lucky enough to go see it opening day “VO” with very small and non-distracting subs. It was on film with a white screen, which I’ve heard the Europeans prefer over the silver variety.

3D has really thrown a wrench into the way we see movies these days.

Damn! That’s proving my point indeed :p

How would you say it correctly then? :3

Where will the movie be released next Wednesday BTW (except from France)?
