The Great Lakes are Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior. I was taught how to remember them using the word HOMES as a memory hook/acronym. I live 45 minutes from Lake Michigan.

When I was younger, I used to think the word was HOUSE but could never think of what the hell lake starts with U. The other four letters work. Then I moved to Chicago and remembering it became much easier living right next to Lake Michigan.

I was 8, motti. I think I can be excused. I was still learning the state capitals at that time. Lakes weren't a priority.
