What's better than sitting down and watching the original Star Wars on laserdisc?

Paying $5 for it

I made a deal with a member from HTF to buy his Pioneer CLD-99 and B&K RF demodulator, both nice and minty. He's a local (Jersey), so I suggest we meet somewhere and avoid the chance of UPS (United Parcel Smashers) destroying these treasures during shipment.

So I meet him in the mall parking lot with cash in hand. I inspect the LD player and it's nearly flawless, as he promised. Great piece. He mentions that he has a bunch of laserdiscs he's looking to get rid of, so he brought them for me to take a look before putting them on ebay. Now I already have a huge pile of LDs--including the THX Faces LDs--and my fiance was standing right behind me shaking her head, but I had to take a look anyway.

I'm thumbing through his box of LDs, and I come across the 1995 ROTJ THX Faces LD. I'm thinking, "Cool. It's only Jedi, but it never hurts to have a backup." I keep going, and then I see ANH and ESB. All opened, but with the shrinkwrap still present. Now I'm psyched. He says he only watched them one time. I ask him how much.

$5 each, he says.

Sold.

I inspected the labels when I got back in my car, and they were all manufactured in Japan. If you don't already know, the ones labeled as made in the US are generally recognized as less durable.

Just got done watching Star Wars for the first time since I sold my CLD-79 almost two years ago. It looked great. Can't wait to watch the rest.

Nice going, Jay

At that point with luck riding high I'd gone and bought a lottery ticket too

I'd no idea what a shadowy world I have entered when registering here - strange deals in parking lots...

My laser disc player is a top-notch peice of total crap.

I have the '95 Faces LD set but it looks like crap because of the crappy player. The TR47 DVDrs look better since I have a decent *DVD* player.

Oh well. It's still good to be able to watch the laserdiscs.

Unfortunatly since I don't have either a laserdisc player or a video, all I can do is sit down and watch the wonders of Star Wars on DVD. But since I don't own any bootleg versions, all I can do is watch the 2004 editions.
Which is better than nothing for now!

I'll tell you what's better...

...when you play the TR47 DVDs on the projector at the 80s dance show you DJ every Saturday, and people start coming up to you with smiles on their faces when they realize that you aren't playing the new 2004 editions.

Spread the love, baby.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

Ahh, unenlightened one....

It's too bad LD's really never took off in Australia. I would HAVE to order them in from the US... that's just not practical. I like star wars, but not THAT much. Bootlegs will do fine.

My laserdisc player just plain SUCKS. Sucks sucks sucks.

I'm considering re-selling on Ebay and purchasing a new one.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a good Laserdisc player to get the best quality out of the Star Wars Trilogy??
It seems as if mine was in a classroom for ten years and then sold on Ebay. It sucks horribly.
What i'm looking for is one that stands up to hardcore fans like us. Something to get the best quality out of them.
Anybody?

hey hal,

i don't know if you've bought a LD player yet or not, but i would strongly recommend this one...

i did a bunch of research, asked around, and this is what i was told to buy. the picture is gorgeous and the things are fsking tanks. in fact, back when laserdiscs ruled supreme, lucas had a wall of v8000's at lucasfilm. the players are pretty awesome...i've got two and have no plans to sell one. the best part is, though, that you can find them cheaply on ebay. i bought both of mine for $100 total. since they're industrial units, they aren't as pricey as the high-end consumer ones, but the picture is rockin. trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I just recently bought a Pioneer CLD-D502 for $30.00USD on eBay and in a 10 LD Lot for $90.00 I got the "Faces" LD set, the Criterion Edition of Blade Runner..........I have to say that I think I did pretty well. I already own the SE LD set and the picture quality from the LD player is pretty sweet, the sound is even better plus I don't have to get up and switch sides........makes sex alot easier during the flip of the disc................ lmao
