What would be the best "Snoke is secretly [pre-established character] all along" outcome?

Author
Time

I’ll be yelled at for this, but for me it would have to be…

Because it would be an intriguing, unprecedented twist, and it also doesn’t “ruin” your perspective of other OT events like plaugieus being introduced would for many (additionally, when your other top contenders are ‘the surviving evil half of the chosen one’ and ‘Palpatine, making Jedi’s ending truly and utterly pointless’).

The idea that Tarkin wasn’t just a higher ranking general but rather an ancient evil that’s being has outlived even the emperor could be great if handled carefully (I’m sure it’d fall under ‘EU bullshit’ for most though, understandably). It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen an average political figure reveal his puffy inflated monster face.

But that’s just if Snoke has to be a pre established character. Truthfully I’d rather him just be “some guy”, because snoke would probably be better off as a new, original character of his own. But lord knows that’s too easy to be the case.

Only what if snoke is Tarkin, but Tarkin was plaugieus the whole time. Oh God, I’ve gone too far. I’ve gone too far in a few places…

They both were around during the clone wars and I’m sure Tarkin has the initiative to become Supreme Leader but there’s one problem with this. Not even in the Tarvin novel has he shown any type of affinity for The Force.

Also there’s no way Tarkin could have escaped.

True. Tarkin had to burn up on the surface of Bespin. It’s an engineering fact.

A double, or a twin, maybe.

False. Haven’t you seen TFA? Apparently things can miraculously survive into ST.

Didn’t Kenner come close to doing a toy line at one point that was based around the premise that Tarkin somehow survived the Death Star and came back to cause trouble after ROTJ? It’s a ridiculous notion, but I guess it was on the table at some level thirty odd years ago. Of course, the canon novel Tarkin and the handful of TCW arcs he was involved in rule out his being a secret Force user, so even if you could come up with a good reason for him to be alive after Yavin, him being Snoke would require yet another insane leap.

Bingowings, I like the Balok idea, but I can’t get my head around this Leia = Snoke thing I’ve seen you throw out a few times. What on earth would her motivation be?

I think if it’s going to be anyone we’ve heard of before, it’ll be Plagueis, but I also think that it’s far more likely Snoke isn’t someone we’ve already been introduced to. I’ve traditionally been down on the Plagueis theory more because the people who buy into it tend to be pretty obnoxious about it than because I think it would be an automatically bad idea. Canonically, the character only exists in those few sentences spoken by Palpatine in ROTS. They could really do anything they want with him.

Leia is smart because she engineered Snoke to corrupt Ben and put a rift between her and Han since marriage was falling apart and wanted out. What better way than to pull Snoke routines? Also, it allowed Han to be completely out of the picture so that she could have access to all his possessions, including the Falcon. Rey comes along to foil that plan though. Darn desert scavengers stealing the ship she had eyes on all these years!

Presumably Leia was up for becoming an early pupil of Luke. Frustrated at the continued fragility of Galactic peace and already possessing a Skywalker choking streak she begins to dabble in the dark side in the hope of uniting the Galaxy under a strong leader. The deeper she dabbled the darker the path. Using the Snoke persona she turned her son when he joined Luke’s classes and he gathered a group around him who killed the other Jedi and to avoid having to kill his beloved sister and nephew Luke hid in shame and fear for the child he left behind. Using the Resistance and The First Order Leia has been trying to find her brother. That is why the partial map held by Renn and Leia is the same. SNOKE to Renn : I am your mother

What about Leia’s reaction shot when she feels Han die? Was that just to fool everyone in the room who had no idea what happened? I kind of like this idea but it seems unlikely.

Excuse you, obviously he walked off into the deserts of Arrakis Aquilae Tatooine.

More or less.

She could be genuinely saddened but think it was necessary to make her son strong enough to rule at her side. Or she could be a better faker than Palpatine.

I mentioned somewhere or other after I first saw TFA, that I loved the way Snoke looked like an Evil version of the Lincoln Memorial…

…but I just compared those nice shots from the OP with some Lincoln face-casts and there is a possible influence there IMO…

What that says about his origins, I’m not sure. He’s probably plagueis (Hopefully not) but maybe he’ll be introduced as a younger character in something like Rebels? Darth Ezra! 😉

C’mon you know he’s better than Ezra.

Darth Ezra!

This…makes sense. Age wise Ezra would old and Dark Side degradation would exacerbate his aging. Also in the new Rebels trailer it is being made apparent that Ezra will be tempted by Darth Maul.
