What scene in the (O-)OT do you hate/dislike the most? — Page 2

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I believe that. But, then again, I don't believe Anakin was dead. And so it makes sense that way. Using your logic, the only way your explanation would make sense would be if little random pieces of Anakin's body are floating around in there. And, last time I checked, dead pieces of body (not that I've checked) aren't going to make a living person pick up their characteristics if they come into contact with one another.

I'm ignoring the SE's for a moment...

The one bit I really didn't enjoy in the original trilogy is Obi-Wan and Luke in Return of the Jedi.

Force ghosts had a bit of mystery to them before-hand. In this movie, he just sits down and has a heart to heart with Luke down on a log (heck, why didn't they have a campfire??? "If we're workin' together, we might as well drink together").

I know exposition scenes suck, I hate doing them myself, but... there was just a certain clumsiness in the way they laid all the facts out in that scene.

I stand by the 'first-catch-of-the-day' line. Come on, it's great. Especially when he gets ion cannon'd a few seconds later. Come on.

<<seriously the prequels were really missing the mystical elements that was so abundant in the dagobah scenes.>>

man do I agree.
I'd go further and say that IMHO they are missing ACTING, with the exception of McDirmiad.

When trying to figure out what was at the core of the prequels sucking (besides more obvious stuff like midichlorians and jar-jar), I thought about how much "depth" Guiness and Cushing brought to ANH, and Yoda brought to ESB. Or even Ford/Hamill/Fisher.
The more I thought about it, I came to the conclusion that for me it was acting that had left the SW universe. Whenever I watched ROTS, it seemed like I was always waiting until the FX would stop and the Emperor or Yoda would appear so something would actually "happen".

<<Jedi rocks is the worst thing in human history.>>

there are of course lots of examples to prove that Lucas has completely lost it, so to speak, but that is absolutely in the top 5 of examples, if not #1. Absolutely without any redeeming qualities whatsoever.
And I don't care about how Sy moves, but that song was cool I thought, especially if you're trying to follow up the cantina music it was a great effort.

<<I always thought "Our first catch of the day" in Empire was a terrible line. >>

<<It's not a scene, but most of the ewok-part of ROTJ is what I dislike (enjoy the least )... they feel out place and pace a lot of the time. >>

agreed to both of those comments

<<The one bit I really didn't enjoy in the original trilogy is Obi-Wan and Luke in Return of the Jedi.>>

I guess it was necessary to have the interaction (and I wouldn't ever want to go with less Alec Guiness), but he definitely could have shot it in a much more interesting/powerful way. I agree, it cheapened the "force ghost" effect.

I'd like to add that when I saw the inserted Jabba, as much as I wanted to see the new Han footage, when I saw that cartoon greyish Jabba I knew there was going to be trouble because of Lucas's CGI fetish. I didn't know anyone at the time that could relate when I tried to explain how shitty Jabba looked...especially when I tried to describe how ugly the CGI color was, but it's been very gratifying since to read the comments of others and know I wasn't alone.

and you know...I haven't seen TPM in so long I actually forgot about the abomination of yoda's appearance in that film! Only when I saw the doc again recently that shows them making yoda for AOTC was I reminded...and painful it was.

I don't like the gunner scene in ANH it's always felt like filler to me.

I dont like the whay they made greedo shoot first THEN tried to fix it, it made it look worse!
Also, the CGI band in jabbas palace, putting Gayden as Anakin at the end of jedi, that sucked,
also, the music at the end of jedi, they made it all slow and peacefull, I much prefered the more upbeat ewok-rock from the theatrical release hehe.

To me, the new music added at the end of ROTJ was one of the few changes which added to the films. Even if only taking the OT into consideration, it creates a more emotional feeling when you reach the end of ROTJ. And taking the PT and OT in mind... WHEW!

I hate most of the SE changes, but I find Jedi Rocks absolutely appalling. As far as O-OT, I love it all, but if anything didn't sit with me well, it was when the Executor crashes into the death star. I just thought it looked pretty crappy.

I've never understood why some people don't like that. I've watched it and scrutinized it, yet I've never seen anything wrong with it at all.

I'm guessing your referring to the Executor crashing into the Death Star. I suppose the biggest reason I don't like it is that the shot lingers too long. While the other two films used similiar tricks with models (and in a probably even more amateurish fashion), but with good camerawork and editing, they were able to pull them off. In this particular shot, the scale seems wrong and they both look like models, at least moreso than any other shot I can think of. And don't get me started on the "out of control barbeque" flame that comes out of the Death Star that the camera seems to stay on way too long. I think some faster cuts or a different angle might have worked better.

The only Thing i REALLY hate is Hayden as Anakin's ghost. the shoddy way george did it destroyed the entire emotional impact of the scene, which Is why I've sought help from the preservation thread. had Sebastian Shaw been left alone, I wouldn't be on this sight right now, as all of the other changes I could (for the most part) live with.

I guess, however, one Original scene I don't like is at the end of the scene where Luke Tells leia they're siblings. after Leia says "Hold me" and han hugs her, during which he pats her on the back. I didn't like it because they're supposed to be lovers, not parent/child

Hi I just signed on today and I am wondering about one thing. Did anyone notice in ANH DVD Version that they altered Jabba from the Spec. Ed. Version....and honestly, seeing the new DVD Ep. IV Jabba I like the 1997 version better. And this has bothered me since day 1, if they made Jabba CGI for ANH why did you not at the very least FIX his busted eye in ROTJ Spec. Ed? What the heck!? Let's see, oh one thing I DID like in ESB DVD Version was that they put Ian McDiarmid as The Emperor. And I know this is blasphemy but when they re-did Empire, why did they not fix the Asteroid Field Scene? Hmmm? Ok I guess here is my thing, they SHOULD release the OT in Original cuts on DVD, but stop with these little fixes at it, if you're gonna destroy it, just re-do the whole entire movies like the Prequel trilogy, Just pull out Harrison Ford and Hamill and the rest of the cast and re-do every shot and get it over with.

Welcome to the forums, Jorge.

As you cruise around, you'll find that there are those still fighting the good fight. And yes I still have a Laser Disc playerr, so I can truthfully tell the FBI, "no sir these DVDs are just copies off of Laser disc. We can go about our business." If you want a good reference for the original '77 classic, I highly recommend Deleted Magic.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

I completely agree with this. Both Jabba's sucked, but the 1997 Jabba looked more like the rubber original, and the eyelines match much better. If you haven't noticed this already, go watch the 2004 sequence. Han is always looking at Jabba's chin or stomach.

To add to what others have said, the main problem with the Executor crash is the huge obvious garbage matte box visible (especially in the 2004 editions). Worse even than how they ruined the Death Star explosion by sucking all the color out of it and making the blue-screen artifacting obvious (of course you've also got the Big Dumb Rings going as well).

Dumbest things: redubbing Boba Fett, making Greedo fire, poorly done CG Jabba (I actually ike Jabba and wanted to see him, I admit the scene is marred by the "stepping on tail" cheap comedy and tossing in more pointless Boba Fett for the fanboys, plus the recycled dialouge, though the annoyance in Han's voice makes the repetition a little more tolerable), and last but not least, Hayden the ghost. Also, removing Vader's eyebrows seemed kind of pointless, as they gave him some character, plus the bald cap is even more obvious as his face doesn't feel weighted properly without his brows. And the various color screw ups on the official dvd's...

Stuff I disliked in the original originals are the garbage mattes, I hate those, and the badly blue screened stuff like the Rancor in ROTJ (love the Rancor, hate the effect that ruins the illusion). The inconsistencies in the TIE/X-Wing performance between "radar" and "window view" shots and the main shots was a little bit odd, and I think the SE improves upon that, but I guess I didn't really "hate" it before, only that it looks better now, one of the few non-purely cosmetic changes I approve of in the SE's. Or and replacing the cardboard extras with real people is fine by me.

And I disagree, CG Jabba circ 1997 looks nothing like ROTJ Jabba. He looks like a bug-eyed anime frog character. Some have pointed out that he's better animated than the 2004 version, but at least the 2004 version looks more like Jabba physically and less like a cartoon character. Closer, but still not quite there. They did a much better job making a CG Yoda, but he doesn't look quite like himself either. I thought TPM Yoda had a character all his own, even if he differed greatly from OT Yoda. Anyway, Jabba, they never got the eyes right, and that does a lot to define the character.

I dislike any scene with Ian McDiarmid speaking.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I dislike any scene from the PT where Ian McDiarmid speaks. Any scene from the PT where Ian McDiarmid speaks whilst wearing his 'deformed by the jedi/blue lightening' rubber face make up makes me want to puke.
