There’s stuff in the Clone Wars that I like a lot but on the whole I don’t think Ashoka makes any sense and there are some weird and silly ways they messed with continuity.

How so? That’s an obscure observation regarding Akhsoka.

Ahsoka shouldn’t exist. She was contrived for the series, and then conveniently dispatched from the Jedi order, and she is never mentioned in ROTS.

That still doesn’t really mess with the continuity but okay.

I always find it fascinating to see what others consider to be their own ‘personal canon’ when it comes to certain movie franchises they like.

So just to join in the fun, here’s what my own specific Star Wars ‘canon’ is, as well as the particular ‘viewing order’ I’d go with if I was ever to do a movie ‘marathon’ of it -

  1. STAR WARS REVISITED (as someone who was lucky enough to be around for the whole initial ‘STAR WARS’ experience in '77, my ideal ‘viewing order’ will always involve kicking off the saga with the ‘Blockade Runner/Stardestroyer’ opening…but NOT by watching the existing ‘special edition’ of ‘A New Hope’! The eventual HD version by adywan will include a few more tweaks that I like, so it will eventually be my default version. Alternatively, I might watch Harmy’s ‘Despecialized’ version on any days I’m feeling especially nostalgic)

  2. EMPIRE STRIKES BACK REVISITED (when it comes out, with Harmy’s ‘Despecialized’ version as a nostalgic alternative)

  3. RETURN OF THE JEDI REVISITED (when it comes out, with Harmy’s ‘Despecialized’ version as a nostalgic alternative)

  4. My own heavily restructured THE PHANTOM MENACE edit (now that the new ‘sequel trilogy’ ensures that I can eventually resume with the ‘saga’ of Luke Skywalker once again, I’m content to include re-edited versions of the prequels as a ‘middle trilogy’ showing ‘past events’ at this point - however, I’m intending to begin TPM with a short introductory ‘prologue’ using a certain STAR WARS REVISITED scene first…as a way to introduce this next 3-movie ‘flashback to past events’ with some additional gravitas - therefore, I would rightly be REQUIRED to watch the events of STAR WARS REVISITED beforehand to make this ‘viewing order’ work effectively!)

  5. My own heavily restructured ATTACK OF THE CLONES edit

  6. My own heavily restructured REVENGE OF THE SITH edit

  7. My own heavily restructured THE FORCE AWAKENS edit (it’s nice to know that I can eventually catch up with some of the original cast again after getting through the prequels! The new ‘SEQUEL trilogy’ means that it’s now possible for me to incorporate the ‘PREQUEL trilogy’ as a re-edited ‘flashback’ MID-WAY through my overall ‘viewing order’…so that the prequels don’t spoil all the reveals of the Original Trilogy, yet allows for me to CONTINUE with the story of Luke Skywalker as a final conclusion to the overall ‘saga’) - Note: for me, placing the prequel trilogy chapters IN-BETWEEN the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy will also greatly help with the ‘passage of time’ by the time I return to watching the much older characters seen in THE FORCE AWAKENS continuation.

  8. The next ‘sequel’ chapter (my own heavily restructured edit, no doubt)

  9. The concluding ‘sequel’ chapter (again, my own heavily restructured edit, no doubt)

For my personal canon, I’ll have to go with Colson’s multiple idea.

  1. Star Wars (1977)

  2. Original Trilogy; Unaltered or my own personal edits (only scene edits; no special effects changes) that I haven’t made happen yet.

Glad to hear it made sense to someone lol 😃

Canon 3: The original trilogy in its unaltered state, plus any new Disney movies that might come out. I justify not including the Special Editions/prequels by assuming that the people working on the new movies have a love for the originals similar my own love, so their head canon probably involves the unaltered originals and not the Special Editions.

They had Ewen McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan in TFA and are having the actress who played Mon Mothma in RoTS reprise her role in Rouge One.

That’s fine. I’m just expressing how I think of the stories as I’m watching them.

It makes sense to me, too. Hell, now I’m tempted to adopt a similar framework myself.

The Marshall Mathers LP,
The Marshall Mathers LP 2,
Story of O (the movie!), and

Not exactly, it’s pretty much everything star wars that you could watch on a TV:

Even Shadows of the Empire has been erased ? It was such a huge thing in the 90’s (book, comics, soundtrack album, video games, action figures, etc.)… I also still don’t get it about the first CW series, which has no real continuity issues with the CGI series and the PT. I remember it was declared off canon before Disney took over (I rewatched the complete 2 hours show a few weeks ago, it is still great. Not perfect, but brilliantly done and it delivers what’s missing in the PT of needed Anakin’s characterization).

So, my canon would be: I-II-CW (2003-2005)-CW (2008-2014, 35 episodes best of)-III-Rebels (not everything but at least half of it)-IV-V-VI (Hal’s I-II-III; Q2’s VI; Bluray’s V; hybrid edition or Harmy’s IV)… the rest will depend upon the quality of VIII and IX… and Rogue one.

Yeah, I don’t get it either. It makes no references to any post ROTJ Legends stories (e.g Thrawn, Ben Skywalker, etc.), nor has it any connection to any pre-existing EU stories, so it was pretty much made to be it’s own unique stand-alone story. Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm could save a lot of time and money filling in the ANH-ESB gap by simply re-canonizing or re-telling Shadows of the Empire. It would also calm down the whole “bring back the EU” crowd somewhat, and it wouldn’t in any way contradict the new movies. Then again I haven’t read any of the new books or comics, so maybe it does contradict something? Has any of the new EU material taken place in his time-period?

I meant when was it declared non-canon?

I’m pretty sure it was still canon when the first bunch of episodes of the CGI series came out. An interview of Dave Filoni can be found somewhere in which he declared he loved and respected the original show and that the CGI version was a sequel not a remake (it was before the new show was aired I guess). In fact I don’t think the first series has been officially declared non-canon by Lucas and Lucasfilm, they just stop mentioning it during the release of TCW ze movie, and then they erased it from the website and stoped producing video releases of it. Curiously the second show has never dealt with the same exact time era of the first series (Anakin is already a Jedi Knight in the second show, and it ends before Anakin and Obi-Wan were sent for a mission in the Outer-Rim territories that last months), so both can co-exist without too much continuity issues. It finally was officially declared non-canon by default when the “great reboot” was triggered in april 2014.

If someone can find something official, like an interview of GL where the conflict between the two series is mentionned, could be useful !
