What if... CGI hadn't been that fully developed when TPM was made?

… CGI hadn’t been that fully developed when TPM was made? Do you think it would have turned about better? I think yes because that’s one of the things that makes it so much different from the OT. If GL had had to use puppets like for the OT he would have been more limited and maybe would have focused more on the characters. Or do you think it woyld have been worse? Resulting in an even more annoying Jar JAr maybe?

I am so glad Lucas doesn't think like you.

I agree. Lucas has said he waited until technology has caught up with his imagination so he could properly tell his stories. What I shame.

Like I said in my "that feeling" thread...I do feel TPM was too cartoony and I think Luke is on the money. Luca$ is obsessed with the graphics and sound and no doubt that makes a good movie more awesome. But lets be honest, which matrix was better the first or the third big budget, better technology Matrix revolutions. Without a doubt the first. The characters are important. And yet...he ignores their improtance. Case in Point...watch ATOC DVD and go through the Deleted scenes, play all with commentary. Its disgusting. Rick and George repeatedly say," well this scene really adds a lot to the characters and explains their motivations." And yet they say it slowed it down so we got rid of it. I am thinking umm, that explains why chooses to serve (with her packing in the room and her trying to save that dying planet), that explains her fear for what's to come (when she addresses the senate), that explains her longing for a fmaily and how close she is to hers (the dinner scene), that explains how they got tried and sentenced to death (trial scene)...I am thinking, WTF, Luc-Ass. If each scene gives so much to the character why get rid of them (8 minutes going to kill the movie? Why not cut the stupid scene where the kid tells him the planet was deleted? DuHHHH! Did any not see that coming? Why not cut out that Watto scene? But they say over and over that plot and characters SLOW the movie down...that's a shame. We all lose, but OOOH and AHHHH look at all the colorful graphics and listen to the great sound. Do I sound bitter? Well read my "that feeling thread", I am.

I am almost glad I didn't grow up with the 70's version of star wars--if that is indeed what makes everyone here who hates the prequels hate them.

That's like saying you're glad because you didn't grow up in the 70's when the Rolling Stones were doing "Paint it Black", "Brown Sugar" and slew of classics. Or Aerosmith's "Dream On". Yes those bands are still recording and some of them are decent songs. But times have changed, music has changed, and they have changed and its not the same. Rock was breathing through the country and was a vehicle for political and socially turbulent times. Hip-hop dominates now along with pre-packaged pop, choreographed dance steps, and lots of bling-bling. Star Wars had a deeper meaning then one you'll never fully grasp if you didn't live in that era. It wasn't a high-grossing moive like phantom or spiderman...it wasn't just big among fanboys...it was big among ALL boys and the country embraced it. Sorry, you don't get why grown men still want those action figures. Irrational maybe, but it was one of the best things of our childhood like "mother's little helper" or "back in the saddle". If you don't know those songs I am sure Nelly and britney will do a pop remake soon.

I grew up with the 70s version of SW and I don't hate the prequels. Don't like them as much, but I don't hate them.

I agree that I don't think Lucas would have made the PT if the technology didn't exist. God forbid he should have to rely on actors to get the story across instead of CGI.
