I don’t know if this is something debated here before, so apologies if so!

What the hell was Leia doing at Tatooine at the start of ANH?!

As the opening crawl informs us, she’s “rac(ing) home … custodian of the stolen plans yadayadayada”, right? And, as we find out a few seconds in, she’s got The Emperor’s right hand man on her tail in a fucking Star Destroyer! So, if you’ll pardon me, what the <span class=“Bold”>fuck</span> is she doing choosing that time to go looking for one of her Dad’s old war pals!!!

Any thoughts?

I could have just made this up, but I seem to remember either from the novel or the radio drama that she knew she wouldn't make it all the way to Alderaan with that Star destroyer on her tail so she takes a quick detour to Tatooine (which en route, apparently) where she knows she has a friend in Obi-Wan.

Like I said... could have just made all that up!

Ah! So she goes to Tatooine specifically to pass the DS plans on to Ben because she knows she won't be able to get them to Alderaan herself?

But then why would she refer to a "mission to bring (Ben) to Alderaan" in her hologram?

LOL, makes me want to run old "X-Wing" game to remind myself the details of Operation Skyhook...

From my faulty memory: Tantive IV was supposed to transfer the plans (& VIPs onboard?) to a larger Rebel vessel, but everything went FUBAR when ISD Devastator hypered into the area. Speaking of party crashing, eh? The transfer was interrupted. Leia's ship escaped, but the Star Destroyer followed her... probably in a way it caught the Falcon: Vader was onboard and out of the possible destinations calculated from the jump direction he chose one: "Tatooine. That is the system. Set your course to Tatooine."

The Rebels probably didn't expect to be found so quickly: Devastator appeared right after they jumped in and opened fire. You know the rest

(Please note that games often mess up with official storyline)

Of course this is just a movie and movie storylines rarely make sense (like talking to your enemy for 10 minutes, thus giving him a chance for a rescue instead of promptly killing him etc.).
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

So was the Devastator supposed to have destroyed the larger Rebel vessel? Were the Tantive IV and this other Rebel ship set to rendezvous at Tatooine or something?

She was going to Tatooine to pick up Ben and bring him to Alderaan. When she realized she wasn't going to make it to Tatooine, she sent Artoo down with the plans to give to Ben, so that Ben could bring the plans to Alderaan himself (?)
