Darths before Bane. Whomever created Darth Rivan should be bludgeoned with a sturgeon, and so should Drew Karpyshyn and the others who perpetuated that nonsense.

Speaking of Karpyshyn, his Darth Bane trilogy sucks. It’s like he went out of his way to take away most everything that made Bane a distinctive character – the purple lightsaber, the orbalisk armour – to make him just another generic Sith. Also each one of those books has a side quest of Bane seeking out a holocron – each one. Wow. So creative. Much variety.

I mean, I can understand the complaints of some people. I, too, would have preferred the Darth title to be introduced with Darth Bane. The appearance of the Sith as we know them from the Prequels, with Darth titles and red lightsabers, should have been introduced by Darth Bane, and should have died with Sidious in Return of the Jedi. But, at the same time, I can also live with it. Again, I, too, would have preferred if those things were introduced by Darth Bane himself, but I can live with it. So, I don’t understand why it is so much of an issue for other people on the forum.

I prefer prequelisms to stay within the prequel era. It’s the only place I can tolerate them.

I liked Karpyshyn until he wrote The Old Republic: Revan tie in novel for the MMORPG. That made me quit reading his Bane books as well even though I liked the first one. It’s unforgivable that The Old Republic replaced KOTOR 3 and it’s also unforgivable what Karpyshyn did in the book with the main characters of KOTOR 1 and 2. They’re ultimately just jobbers who have to lose to the generic Sith (who are the opposite of what Kreia described at the end of 2) so that the MMO can happen 300 years later. All the setup is completely wasted.
I haven’t played the MMO but all the lore ideas coming out of it also seem really dumb. For example, Revan’s force ghost gets split into a light half and a dark half.

Ironically, George Lucas likely meant for Bane to be first Darth. Statements from Lucas and the wording of the TPM novelization suggest that the pre-Bane Sith were short-lived and didn’t pose a serious threat to the Jedi. I believe that Lucas meant for the Sith Order started by Darth Bane to be the one that ruled the galaxy 1000 years before the movies.

Yeah, there’s always been a wide gulf dividing Lucas’ canon and official canon, even when there were tiers with Lucas’ ostensibly being the top one. Which makes it all the more absurd when obvious jokes like “Conan” being Motti’s first name and “Stewjon” being Obi-Wan’s homeworld were canonized just 'cause Lucas was the source.

I hate the name Sheev, and i hate that Palpatine was renamed Darth Sidious more than Stewjon even if its idiotic. Just like i prefer apprentice over Padawan. I know this had nothing to do with the EU but, i dislike it as much as Yoda and Palpatine even having lightsabers.

Canon is whatever until George decided to change something. He was like Indiana, i’m making it up as i go.

They really need to stop pretending the tie in fiction that comes out of licensing is on the same level as the film and tv canon. They just keep upsetting people every time Filoni changes something.

“Sheev” is a lame name. The various fan/rumoured names, from Dantius to Ethril to Frank, were all better. But I dunno, I find it amusing that that’s the name of a malevolent archmage who managed to conquer a galaxy.

Agreed on all points

Though it is funny that in the book, the reason that we don’t hear his first name very much is that he also hates it. He wants to style himself after his family’s noble name and that’s it.

Richard Marquand’s 1983 holocron and George Lucas’s 2005 holocron agree that his first name is “The”, but they disagree on whether his last name is “Emperor” or “Senate”.

SWTOR that game ruined KOTOR lore for me so in my headcanon that game never happens and the Exile is a male Jedi for me
TFU 2 also never happens in my headcanon since Galen Marek sacrifice in the first game was a perfect ending to his story and for inspire the Rebellion

I’ve probably said it before but i hate that they killed Anakin Solo making Chewie’s death and sacrifice meaningless. I hate that they ruined Jacen Solo. I hate that they killed Mara Jade Skywalker. I hate Vergere being a Sith, i hate Abeloth, the new Sith tribe and i hate how they ended the story of Callista and i never was a fan of hers.

I actually liked the story in KOTOR but being a videogame where you choose your character is good or evil, male or female its not really something to base a series of films or books on. The games are so loosely connected they don’t tell one cohesive story. And Old Republic is all the more worse for that since it doesn’t really care about lining up with Kotor 2 because Obsidian made it not Bioware. In recent years other than the mostly excellent Legendary Edition of Mass Effect i really believe they deserve the title of BeWare.

Major shortcomings of the EU:

There are many of them.
There are way too many.
There are a ton of them.
Insufficient democracy.
Economic disparities between countries.
Migration policy.
Dependence on the largest countries.
These are the main ones, but there are a ton of them.
