It's kind of sad that there are so many pieces in private collections now (like Luke's yellow ski jacket--GRRRRR!)
There's a Gone With The Wind museum near me that has lots of costumes & other memorabilia from the film. It's too bad there isn't a permanent star wars museum like that, that everyone could visit.
I wish somebody had the museum idea back in '82 before the full size Falcon prop got trashed. Imagine what people would pay just to gawk at it?
If the blueprints still exist in the archives, I imagine it could be recreated some day.
That Hollywood themed Disney park in Florida has a desert skiff, a Rebel Snowspeeder, and the Falcon's chess table, but who knows if they're the real deal or not?

Yeah- the stories about all the stuff that got thrown out and/or trashed are really depressing.
A SW museum would have had as many if not more visitors than the R&R Hall Of Fame, I think, especially if they'd saved all that stuff.
The old fan club gave away pieces of the Falcon as contest prizes in the mid 80's. I wonder how many are floating around out there?
A museum might be an attractive alternative to hauling all the props and models around for exhibitions down the road.
I've been wondering if all the wear I saw on the Blu Ray archives was age related or these things are simply becoming too fragile to travel the world now. (The text for the DS II miniature claims it's too fragile to ever leave the Ranch at all.) Vader's TIE looks like someone dropped it since the 1993 DC Laserdisc archive tour was shot.

I saw pics somewhere that were taken just in the past few years, so apparently yes.

I finally saw the "Hollywood Treasures" episode on SciFi last night where this beautiful piece of hardware was auctioned off. Don't know if it was a rerun, or there is a big lag between when the show is shot and when it airs.
Carrie Fisher's brother is the person who brought the camera to the auction house. He had to sweeten the pot before Joe Maddalena, the head guy at the auction house would bite, by throwing in a Marylin Monroe costume into the deal.
Joe didn't think something as esoteric as a film camera would sell for much. I've seen him dismiss other esoteric behind the scenes items before on the show, so it was great seeing the expression on his face as this camera became the most expensive Star Wars item ever auctioned off to date. Never underestimate the fans. ;)
One heartbreaking tidbit was mentioned. Panavision apparently destroyed all the other cameras of this type they still had in their possession. What a waste.

In a season 1 episode they sold off a Naboo Guard jacket. On a different show, Storage Wars (S03E02) a Revenge of the Jedi jacket was found.
This weeks episode of Hollywood Treasure (S02E05) they attempt to auction a full 3po costume (used for an FAO Schwartz display, then bought by Disney) and they brought in the model maker Don Post: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/don_post_life-sizes.htm Post was allowed to given access to the LFL archives and used the original forms.
The Yoda rehearsal puppet was owned by the son of the creator Mrs. Froud (Dark Crystal) who was working for Henson. Freeborn hadn't finished his puppet yet, so this version was used on set while they were doing setup preparations.

and Jeremy Bulloch shows up (very briefly) in S02E04. but they put a price tag of 1m on the Boba costume.
Is not that Camera just the A Camera for the live action photography on star wars 1977, not the VISTAVISION rig used for the effects.
IS that the same camera that Gil Taylor used the same parts and everything not replaced, if i was the rich person who bought it i would make sure.
