What are you going to do with your SE discs? — Page 4

Some of the lower end ones can cost about as much as a more expensive DVD. Besides, what that Randy guy is referring to is donating them to charities, like the Boys and Girls Club, organizations that underprivilaged kids can go to, where they would have DVD players and other forms of entertainment that kids' families may not be able to afford.

EDIT: Wow. Apparently Randy and I had the same idea at the same time. Kinda creepy, but life is like that.

We agreed!!!???? Ahhhh!

Still doesn change that as much as lucas didn't want the OOT available, many here feel the same about the SE's. It's like Max Planck said: “A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it” I do not want a new generation growing up that is only familiar with the SE.

The SE additions really make that big a difference? I understand if they do to you.... but a kid is still going to enjoy the hell out of those flicks. Only the Star Wars fanboy generation cares that much.

Yes. They do. They are the equilient of Christ being married to Mary Magdeline and fathering a child with her. And kids will enjoy the hell out of lots of things. I remember enjoying the hell out of playing outside with a stick. Let's forget about the children because that does not matter. What does matter is that I would not subject my worst enemy to the SE. I wish that would go into the Lucasfilm vault and never come out again.

Wow. Just wow. You're clearly off the deep end when it comes to the SE...

Randypants> Keep in mind where you are, bub. This is a site for fans of the original trilogy. While some may not feel as strongly as others, it is a good place to find a general negative vibe for the special editions.

And it goes both ways. I think people who like the SE or the PT are bat**** insane.

Us, who love the OT and are here for that very reason, or you, who are here to pick fights? If you don't like what we are discussing, don't join in. I am not against alternate opinions or a voice of reason if that is indeed what you have to offer, but what's it to you if we send our discs back?

This is ORIGINALTRILOGY.COM. What did you expect? I'm not about to go to an original Star Trek site and try and tell them they are nuts because the Next Generation was far superior. Even if that was my opinion (it is actually), why would I go and rain on their parade? I would have to be extremely sad, bitter and very bored to do that. I just don't care enough to do that.

If Lucas is going to go around basically baiting us by saying crap like 'we'll see which versions the people prefer' or whatever while packaging the 2 versions together so we really have no way to rise to the challenge and really show him which versions we prefer, of course we are going to try and find some way to wave the OT flag come september.

Good point. Those poor kids have it bad already without that shit in their lives.

lol - I love you guys.

Personally, I think it's a great idea to send thousands of unharmed discs back to George Lucas with a request that he donate them to charities all around the world. If this were to happen - yes, some poor children would have to be subjected to the horrors of the OT Special Editions, but they're acceptable losses in this war to ensure that the OOT will have future releases beyond September 12, 2006.

And JediRandy - I can't shake the feeling that you might be George Lucas. If you are Mr. Lucas, then would you actually donate to charity any discs that we might send your way? Also I'd like to thank you for Star Wars in general. If you're not George Lucas - then nevermind.

You guy's are right! I'm George Lucas! Screw all of you guys, I'm making Greedo shoot first and replacing Chewbacca with Jar Jar. I never like that hairy guy in a monkey suit anyway. And while I'm at it.... no more Slave Leia in ROTJ. I'm replacing her with a CGI General Madine in a metal bikini. I hope ILM can replicate that comb over with pixels.

Less-than-fortunate kids are able to enjoy a movie without whining and moaning about it on the internet for years.

haha. o rly? that was a joke dude. charity is fine, but telling someone else what to do with their own possessions is not. if i wanna burn a DVD i just bought, i can do so. more over, if i want to destroy something that i helped to build and promote that has now gone terribly wrong, i can do so.

I didn't "tell" anyone..... I suggested an alternative to a useless and infantile form of protest... especially considering you've just won the long fight to get these discs.

As for you "destroying" something that you helped "build"..... hate to break it to ya but you merely supported it. The movie was made without you and it'll be around long after you. Buying a DVD and a few toys doesn't get your name in the credits.

See that is where I disagree with you, if there wasn't an outrcy from fans, these versions wouldn't be around long after us. In 10 years, there will be a whole generation that grow up with just DVD players, as most are doing now, and are not going to just go out and buy some VHS version of the O-OT.

With the DVD version out, it keeps this version in play for future generations to decide what is better. I have three nephews between the ages of 5-8, and they have only seen the SE OT, cause they don't watch VHS tapes, they have grown up with Toy Story & Monster Inc. SE DVD's. They have no idea about the original versions.

But I will be buying it for them on Sept. 12 as an early Christmas Present from their Uncle, so now they can see the versions I grew up on, and then they can decide. Of course, I will be the great uncle that I am, and help them out with their decision.

I totally understand that some folks didn't like the changes, so to get in an arguement about the merits (or lack thereof) would just be a waste of time..... I'm hopelessly outgunned here.

But, I do not think that the SE somehow made the films these unwatchable piles of garbage. Especially ESB.... which is pretty much the same movie..... it's still SW.

It is not about who is right and whose wrong about what changes are better. Lucas made a decision years ago to suppress the O-OT, and never gave the fans the choice to pick which one they wanted, that has been my only beef through the years. Once Lucas releases this on Sept. 12th, I could care less what changes he makes for the next edition, because there now is a choice.

Is ESB that much different, I agree on that, but ANH is alot different, and so are parts of ROTJ. The insertion of Hayden in ROTJ and the insertion of Ian McDiarmid in ESB changed the SE from updated effects to tie in with the PT. And everyone knows there were more changes to come in the OT in the future. I guarantee there will be the Emperor inserted dissolving the senate in ANH SE 2007.

Now for fans of the PT who see it 1-6, that is great for them, but it is a different experience then just watching it 4-6 from 77-83. It is just like watching a movie colorized, it is a different experience even though it is the same movie. Ted Turner tried to colorize many movies in the mid 80's to appease my generation who were teenagers, and it backfired on him, and he stopped doing it.

To me it is all about choice, and after September 12th, the choice will be there on the best format of how to watch SW OT. If the so-called whiners didn't whine for the last few years, then fans would only get to see the SE, and to me that is not a choice.

Just then, there's a knock on the briefing room door. It's perky little Nien Nunb. Cue slow 70s funk.

Hey, I'll pick up the new discs.... I heard there'll be commentary on them, so if that happens, I'll pick them up. If not. I'll wait until the big 6 movie set.

I don't know if inserting the McDiarmid into ESB is an attempt to connect to the PT. He was in ROTJ. Plus, the OOT ESB Emperor looks silly considering he changes in the next movie. I think there's a monkey superimposed over an actor for that version of the Emperor. The eyes are just flat out weird. Unless he had a hangover, I don't know why they would suddenly shrink in ROTJ.

CO Bueller, you're my hero!

EDIT to Randy: Since only the '04 versions have commentary on them, I doubt they're any different from the commentary that was released with them a year and a half ago.

So OOT release will have no commentary on them? They couldn't use the SE commentary, it wouldn't match up.

There's a technical specific poster on this set wandering around somewhere, and it only lists commentary on Disc 1. Disc 2 is listed as having the theatrical cuts and some game demo/preview/whateveridon'tcareit'sstupid.

That would be the worst. He's conflicted on enough things as it is. I just wish he'd be satisfied with things sometimes. It's like if he was able to send the exact vision of the movies from his brain to film, he'd start messing around with it as soon as it was printed anyway.
