What Brand Blu ray player should I get? — Page 2

Is there a lot of difference in loading the disc? Is PS3 still the fastest?

Is there a player that changes chapters using the number keys?

Does any player ignore the stupid Live feature so that those movies would start where they were left off?

I believe Live can be disabled on most players.

Resuming a movie where you left off is unrelated to Live. It's dependent on the individual Blu-Ray disc.

I have disabled Live but it doesn't make it any faster, and my player isn't even connected to the web.

What does prevent resuming, then? I have only couple of BDs that can do that.

I think the disc has to be authored that way, or no resuming.

The format would have been a lot better off without Java, and all the other stuff bloating up discs when all we really want to do is watch a darn movie.

Where were you in '77?

It's a shame that the noughties craze for putting DVD players in everything didn't carry over to the Blu-Ray epoch because at one point I had about 9 different DVD players hidden in various devices but I've still to own a single Blu-Ray player of any kind.

I guess I'm holding out for a replacement for my current main DVD player which is big and strong enough to hold up the weight of my telly and is silvered so it matches. These are my prime considerations for such a device should the price be right.

So for those with an NTSC Oppo, is it true that it will play PAL discs?

It will, provided they're the right region or you've run the firmware hack to make the Oppo region free (or you've installed a mod).

The Oppo will play pretty much everything you throw at it, and it can convert it to a fixed resolution/frequency to match your display or output the original if you have a multisystem TV.

For $500, it should be able to cook me dinner.

For that amount it should never get a headache either.

I have a Sony BDP S-360 and the only problem I've had with it is that the latest firmware update is somehow incompatible with recent 20th Century Fox titles.  I couldn't play Avatar, Predators or The A Team.  Either there's a bug in their firmware they haven't fixed or Fox is so heavy handed with the copy protection that the player can't read through it.

Have you tried reverting back too an older firmware update?.

How?  My only updates have been thru the internet connection on the back of the player.  And where would I find an older firmware to revert to?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Well, I think I am sorted out on the blu ray player side of things, i'ts just the television now to sort out.

The question is...LCD or Plasma ?

I was all set to go for an LCD but have now heard that Plasma is better if you like to watch tv in a darkened room.

Help me out guys.
