Wedge and Rogue Squadron (in the EU)

And now for something a little different, at a time when the boards are filled with threads about the new DVD release. Anybody here at all versed in EU? Hell, it’s not even quite EU as it comes up in the movies, too, but anyway:

Does anybody know when exactly Wedge replaces Luke as commander of Rogue Squadron? I’m playing Rogue Leader right now, and, based on that game, it seems like Wedge takes over right after the Battle of Hoth. Hell, it’s almost like as soon as Luke goes down, Wedge is like, “Well, I guess I’ll be the leader now, nyah, nyah!” Was there ever a point where Luke officially passes over the reigns, or does he just get so preoccupied with his Jedi training that he stops attending meetings and is simply replaced?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Rogue Flight was nearly destroyed at Hoth, and Wedge took charge of the remnants while Luke was off doing Jedi things. It was reformed as Rogue Squadron under Luke during the year after Hoth, though Wedge was frequently in charge. That was dissolved during Endor and the remaining pilots grouped into Red Squadron. It was reconsolidated during the Truce at Bakura thing, with Luke as Rogue Leader (though I only remember him flying a TIE in TaB). After that, a permanent Rogue Squadron was formed under Wedge. That's the one that Michael Stackpole adopted.

Thanks. I don't know why I didn't try Wikipedia. I was actually just there reading about the X-Wing series of games. So was the original Rogue group not referred to as Rogue Squadron like the game refers to it as?

In Shadows of the Empire, which takes place between ESB and ROTJ, Wedge was in charge of Rogue Squadron, I think. Maybe he was acting leader in Luke's absence.
