Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released) — Page 15

Oh, god, TWO YEARS?! I know it hasn't been that long! But it does feel like it. My edit is complete, the DVD's are pretty much done, I'm just wrapping up a little making-of featurette that was requested by someone on the boards.

Jaiman's actually been the one who's been fighting this war for the past month or two, trying to get some better quality caps to fill in for the VHS shots I had to throw in. He's just made a breakthrough and it looks like he'll be able to get them to me soon. I plug the shots in, presto: DVD DONE!

I hate setting release dates because I never meet them, but we're looking at another couple weeks, a month tops. Waterworld originally premiered on July 28, and I guarantee we'll beat that date!

The Encore Extended capture is all polished off! Shiny!

The Theatrical should be ready shortly. (Knock wood).

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

are you also using scenes from the commercial DVD or are it all TV recordings?

TV ONLY! The DVD is cropped to widescreen, and I decided to go open-matte (full frame) since that's the format of the broadcasts and you get MORE image.

I recieved the DVDs from Jaiman Tuckuh yesterday and I've been tossing them in ever since. We're in the home stretch!

HEADACHES!

I'm trying to get an NTSC broadcast back to 24p film, but it was converted to PAL before NTSC...

That made my brain hurt and I'm not the one trying to figure out how to do it, good luck with that.

Headaches have passed, I'm almost done. Two things:

1) How are those covers coming? Anyone? I can't wait to see one!

2) Why do we use code names? Like "McFly89." I figure it's just because it's cool. So I've been putting my actual real name on the DVD credits, but it occured to me: do we have code names so that we won't be sued? I figure if anybody wanted to shut us down, it wouldn't be hard, nor would finding our real names... but is putting your name on the DVD just asking for trouble?

I was going to take a crack at a cover, but if you go back through the thread, Gillean and Boon23 made covers for earlier incarnations of this. Gillean's (around page 4?) looks particularly nice. Is he still around? As for Boon's I'm sure he could change some details and post it here if we asked nicely.

mcfly89, if you send me some good snapshots to use, I'll take a shot at it.
You can post them here or send them to crockbrol[at]gmail dot com if you like.

Thx,

I've just finished reading almost every single post in this topic, and I'm really excited about this one. I can't wait for the finished DVD to be released.

I'm going to take a shot at a cover as well. It's never bad to have multiple covers people can choose from. :)

Cool! Here's something to get you guys started.

WwHD_snaps.zip (Rapidshare)

100 megs of stills from a 1080i HD, that I got from cable.

Any requests?

Here's some Ideas McFly had:

I was thinking something along the lines of my menu designs, which have a "peering through a telescope" motif. Perhaps you could take the shot of the lookout spotting the smokers with his telescope, and in his telescope reflection you could toss a shot from a deleted scene (I have a few).

Other ideas I had were a collage of Hi-Res stills of The Mariner teaching Enola to swim, since there's some pretty shots in there. Or, a one-shot wraparound of one of the wide shots of the ocean floor with decimated buildings.

I also have a logo for my fake production company that can be added next to the Universal logo.

I got frames of all those subjects. A lot of it isn't as impressive when it isn't in motion, but it might work.

I tried to get images that'd be good for wraparound covers. I had to flip a lot of them, horizontally, to get the front cover part on the right side. But they're png, so you guys can just flip them back, if you just need pieces of images.

Just get a cease-and-desist, not a lawsuit... :)

But I think it's best to keep your real name out of it.

Super-unlikely, and you'd just have to stop talking about distribution. But why push it?

I could babble about it. And I did, but I edited it all out. :)

Thanks for the stills Jaiman Tuckuh. I'll see if I can use them.

Here's a preview of my Work In Progress. I really like the design Gillean started with on his cover, so I kinda used that to create mine. It's not really what McFly had in mind I guess, but I like it :D. I haven't used the original title treatment, since I don't really like that one.

What do you guys think?

Sweet! I like the addition of the beautiful sunset clouds, and how some of the dark clouds wrap around to the front, where it looks like a storm is rolling in. The dark clouds behind him, makes a dramatic effect.

When it's done, there should be some text, on the back, along the lines of xxx minutes of every moment ever aired - uncut, and uncensored. Or something like that.

You're right, it's been so long, I had forgotten! Gillean's is very nice. Although I wanted some alternatives to the "Standard Cover," I like Boon's too. One idea I just had to tweak Boon's would be instead of Kevin's face, The Deacon's face. That would be funny and ominous at the same time!

My cover ideas are just things that pop into my head, no need to follow them to the letter (or at all). I'll be happy to put anybody's covers on my DVD, the more the merrier. Also, I agree with V-Ger that "The Ulysses Cut" should be small and out of the way. It's not a very good name, just the best I've come up with so far.

Hey McFly89 !

Congrats on being done and about to release this baby.

Forgive the -obvious- question : do you plan on making a DL version as well, with the 2 parts seamed as one  ?

Can't wait for your release in any form it materialises !

Do you expect me to talk ?

I have a hi-res version of the image below if anyone wants to do a "standard style" Waterworld poster with Dennis Hopper replacing Kevin Costner. PM me with your email address.

Nope, It's a two-disc. In fact, ABC was wise to make it a two-night event; it's a LONG movie.

Thanks for the DVD specs. I'll try and finish the cover ASAP.

Do you want a label to go with it as well?
