Working on: Superman: Son of Jorel
First trailer...Wow.
It's a good trailer for a movie. However, will it faithfully translate the book's essence as it absolutely should? There are enough key changes that my worries in that area have remained unchanged.
My favorite aspects of the graphic novel were every Rorschach scene and how dorky and real-to-life both Night Owl and Silk Spectre were as superheroes. The trailer shows the key Rorschach stuff, so I'm happy about that, but perhaps it won't all be portrayed in a way that gets the same feeling of petty, pathetic-ness that really left me wanting to see him succeed in his . . . hopeless mission I guess. And, the stuff with Night Owl and Silk Spectre might be too on the bad-ass side and not as touching in the sense of them being real people. But, I saw nothing contradicting those aspects of the story, so I shall remain hopeful.

THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO FLOP SOLELY BASED ON THE COSTUMES. THE COSTUMES LOOK LIKE THEY CAME RIGHT OUT OF THE MOVIE SKY HIGH. SURE, THE COMIC BOOKS FANS WILL GO SEE IT, BUT THAT'S NOT THE AUDIENCE THAT THE MOVIE STUDIO IS GOING AFTER. THE COSTUMES WILL SCARE AWAY THE AVERAGE MOVIE WATCHER. AT THE DARK KNIGHT PREMIER THE WATCHMEN TRAILER GOT BOOED. MOST OF THE PEOPLE THERE WERE COMIC BOOK GEEKS. SO, WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?

I think it will work out great and Moore is not complaining which is as close to a ringing endorsement as you will get from him.As for what booing the trailer tells me.......nothing new-these people need to get a life, lol.

Using a theme from batman and robin for their trailer was probably not the best choice, imho.
It is the smashing pumpkins song which played over the end credits i believe. It was in 1997 i am jogging my memory here, though i do know there is a music video for it on youtube.
The costumes do look like they were inspired by the old batman movies by shitmacher not sure that was a wise choice either.
I think i will pass on seeing this movie, hopefully the spirit will be diffrent but also from that trailer it looks too much like sin city.
The last moore movie adapted V for Vendetta strayed too far from its source and ended up being a bush and far right bashing piece, which is right on with moore's political views but i heard he was not at all happy with the finished movie.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
It's an alternate version [the begining is the end is the begining] of the Batman 3 theme by Smashing Pumpkins [the end is the begining is the end]. Although i can't be sure that this one wasn't also in the film. I finally saw the trailer and it looks interesting. I felt the tune suited the visuals...
Is it worth trying to get up to speed on Watchmen at this point or should I wait and watch the film with an open mind? I'm not asking whether people think the movie is faithful to the story so much as getting in on a [somewhat] ground floor without any preconceptions.
Read it. It's amazing.
Could you point me in the right direction? - I've got no idea really. titles to look for etc...
Also, Does anyone know the time period this movie is set in? hard to judge by the trailer, unless it jumps around a bit.
oh and I swear it looks like that dood [Doctor Manhattan] is strumming an air guitar at the 27 second mark in the trailer.
EDIT
Ah! 1985 in an alternate reality? - That would explain a bit.
WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE YOU READ THE COMIC BOOKS.

It was a 12-part miniseries in the '80s - you can find it as a graphic novel now (just called "WATCHMEN," by Alan Moore), though it's been sold out at most bookstores since TDK came out, I'd order online.
It's up on Demonoid, as well, if you don't mind reading on your computer screen.
And I disagree with DAYV, I'd read the graphic novel first, it really is that good.

THAT'S WHY I SAY WATCH THE MOVIE FIRST. WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU READ THE BOOK BEFORE YOU SEE THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE NEVER HOLDS UP. MARCH 2009 WILL BE HERE SOONER THAN WE REALIZE.
I WILL ADMIT THAT THEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB ON THE TRAILER, BUT THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO.

At comicon over the weekend at the WB booth they had a full size Owl ship. It was friggen cool. They had the side hatch open, and everything looked functional and worn in. It was so detailed, I'm pretty sure it wasn't just a replica. They probably used it as a set in the movie.
