Looks like he's only shooting once from what I can see. Greedo shoots an instant of a second first, which would mean this is the latest DVD edit.

No,he's right there are like three rapid laser beams coming out of Han's gun. I haven't watched the SE in a while but I'm pretty sure this is not whats in the SE--never trust Youtube.

Nope, that is the DVD version of the film. I just checked it. If you watch closely enough, Han Solo gets off those two little blaster shots instead of one.

I'm guessing that when George changed the Greedo scene from the SE to create the DVD version (to sort of show them firing at the same time) he kept the earlier SE version of the film where Han fires after Greedo and that basically gives us two super fast shots coming from the blaster (one where Han shoots at the same time and one where Han shoots second). Whatever the reason for the two blasts actually is, however, it certainly looks ridiculous.

The '04 and '06 SE releases are identical, as far as I know.

If there's any difference in that scene, it's between the '97 version and the '04/'06 version.

I own the '04 edit (as much as it has led to my chagrin) and it displays the two blasts.

greedo. Maybe George should change his name to that but drop the o on the end.

Then in reference to the special editions Greedo shoots first, as in greed shot first would be relevant.

Sure enough, it does look like Lucas just added a bolt over the 97 SE version to make it look like Han shoots earlier, but the first bolt disappears... Dumb way to "fix" things he already broke.

LOL you might be right, it sort of looks like they left it as it was in 1997 but then just added another laser beam a few frames before so they shoot closer together instead of the awkward space like in the original. The poor workmanship on the SE never ceases to amaze me. I just watched the mos eisley part to see this and watching all those CG entry shots of rontos and everything, the CG looks horrible most the time, I cannot understand people saying this is preferable to the "dated" FX of the original. Its sad that 90% of viewers watching "Star Wars" have to see it like this.

I don't know which is worse, George's need to display the blaster fire, the fact that Han looks like he's made out of plastic, or that horrible jerk he performs with his neck.

I bet you he will change these movies again for the 3D releases just you wait.

he will further ruin and update these movies every few years until he is dead.


Then and only then can we hope for a proper release of the original versions of the films unless he burns all the surviving prints or writes it into his will that they cannot ever be restored.

The surviving prints are already destroyed; from what I know, there are three distinct versions of Greedo?Han shooting at Han/Greedo:
1.Han shoots first (1977)
2.Greedo shoots first (1997)
3.Greedo and Han sort of shoot at the same time(2004)
Nothing should have been changed, I hope...
