I have no idea, they have the most powerful console on the market.

That's probably the exact issue. Here's most likely how it went down when making Forza Racing, Project Gotham Racing 2, ect:

Microsoft Guy 1: hey we can throw in this great new graphics engine with really cool lighting effects!

Microsoft Guy 2: Uh, sounds good. But won't that make the game run a dismally slow 30 fps?

Microsoft Guy 1: But it'll have great graphics!

Microsoft Guy 2: Uh, but when you're supposedly driving at 180 mph, wouldn't the extra frames be helpful when negotiating turns? Won't they crash?

Microsoft Guy 1: People won't care when they see the graphics!

Microsoft Guy 2: Brilliant!

When you play games in 60FPS it's hard to go back to 30.

Just compare Metroid Prime 2 to Halo 2. *Shudders*

MP2 is faster than Halo 2 by far. MP2 Manages to look about as good and still run at 60 frames a second, which makes little sense considering it's a Gamecube game.

Funny how two of the four best-looking games this generation are on the GC.

Devil May Cry 3 got a 9.6 at IGN! Nice job, Capcom. Unfortunately, that's yet another fifty bucks I'm gonna have to come up with.

Supposedly that game is super hard.

How is Metroid Prime in terms of gameplay? I've debated picking it up since it's a Player's Choice.

In my estimation, Metroid Prime (one) is the second best overall game GC game out there. Given that you can get it for around 15 beans, you should definitely pick it up. As far as the gameplay goes, it's pretty solid (esp the jumping) but it doesn't necessarily follow your classic FPS conrol scheme, so it may take some getting used to. The icing on the cake for me was the presentation. The graphics, story, music, level design, ect all gave me that old Metroid vibe.

How's it different from other FPS controls?

Someone can probably give you a better description, but it's not a typical dual-analog setup for aiming while moving. The left thumbstick moves you around, while you have a 'lock-on' button. Once you are locked onto a target, you can move, circle around, jump ect all while having you gun trained on the particular target.

That's gotta be just a bit disorienting at first.

I have not played Metroid Prime, but my brother has it. Got it for Christmas this past year.

What Windexed isreferring to is commonly called "Z-Targetting". It was innovated by Nintendo in Zelda: OoT. The name comes from the fact that the 'Z' button was used to target and lock on to an enemy. With the changeover to Gamecube, the term stuck.

I imagine that on a FPS, it could be a little disorienting, but it keeps your gun trained on an enemy, so its a good thing.

It's a good thing until your stuck watching the enemy and are unable to see other enemies as they come at you. Or is this just a matter of the gun staying trained on the enemy while you can still "look" in different directions?

On another video game note, is there any place I can go to download GameCube instruction booklets? I bought two games used from Blockbuster this weekend and neither had instruction books. Soul Calibur II and NHL 2003 (EA).

The control scheme really works perfectly fine. It's hard to expain, but it works. In fact I can't ever remember having a problem with it at all during a battle. I guess it has something to do with the fact that you aren't on a 3D plane like Unreal Tournement or something. There's not a whole lot going to the sides of you, since Samus is usually in rooms/corridors. Just stop asking questions and get the damn game.

Metroid Prime definitely is easier to understand once you've played it.

L-Button can be set to lock on with a tap or when you hold it in, and you can dis-engage it ant any time. While in targeting, you can circle strafe and jump around to dogde, which is the most useful technique in the game. Firing is done with the A Button, which is definitely unusual for first person games, but it works. Jumping is usually crap in FPS, but Metroid makes it work somehow. If you miss a jump, it's probably cause it was impossible, not because of the perspective.

Besides, you can find it for 15-20 dollars, so what is there to lose?

1. Not much espionage or action. Just stealth.

2.Unkillable guards unless you have a gun. Why can't snake just slit the throat or snap the neck of that guy he just incapacitated.

3. Top down perspective as standad. I can't kill what I can't see, and the First Person mode is only good while your sparse ammo lasts.

4.Nonsensical characters/story. Sniper Wolf can hold the same position for months? Give me a break.

5.The fact that Snake enters the complex without a single gun or bullet. Why would you infilitrated a compound full of enemy soldiers and not have some weapons on you JUST IN CASE you got in a scrape.

6.Even if you beat down a guard, you let him keep his own weapon. WTFC?

Like never buy a game in a genre I've never played before without renting it first.
