for anyone who is interested in a historical/tactical first person shooter i present to you THE REGIMENT
i for one am rather excited about this game... sure it doesnt compare to the graphics of Doom 3 or Half Life 2 but we all know that doesnt make a game... cough cough doom cough...
brief synopsis: Based on briefings and scenarios supplied by S.A.S. veterans, The Regiment is a tense, accurate simulation of close quarters combat. Lead four-man teams in assaults on terrorist strongholds. Rescue hostages held at gunpoint. Recreate the deadly climax to the Iranian Embassy Siege of 1980. Fight battles in Britain's corridors of power in a daring rescue at the Houses of Parliament or tackle the nightmare scenario of a terrorist takeover of a subway system.
here are some screenshots of the game.... they hardly do it any justice... i would suggest checking out the trailer for the game first...
i find it to be a very interesting game and it will definatly take on a cult following in the game world...

I'll wait until the reviews, and if it's decent, I might rent it.
BTW, has anybody heard of the video of the guy from Japan beating Mario III in just 11 minutes? I thought I read somewhere that it was faked. Does anybody know anything about this??

I'm pretty sure he was using an emulator to do this.
I think I saw a patron watching a video of the guy beating Mario 3 in 11 minutes.
Whether its an emulator or not, I couldn't tell you, but the game just flew by. Level 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, Fortress, then Whistle right to Level 8. After that, its just run, fly and jump past every bullet and cannon ball.
I searched some forums and consensus is that it was done on an emulator by recording and saving the records. It took over 40000 re-records spliced together to get everthing perfect and was done almost frame by frame in some places. How the sound and status bar at the bottom were kept acurate, I have no idea whatsoever.
The man who supposedly did it said he never intended it to be reguarded as legit, but rather wanted to show what was theoretically possible for a perfect player.
There is also a version of Super Mario 3 that is very similar...not sure on the time for that one though.
And yeah, everything i heard was its an emulator, multiple takes, and also that he used macros to do double jumps and such. I didnt hear about any 'statement' from the creator though.
either way its still looks damn cool
there is also some tetris one and that one shows a side by side of they guy playing...its damn impressive

Not really. He basically did it with an emulator, using the emulator's saving points - if he missed, he just went back to where he last saved. At the end, he had the whole perfect game recorded (I've seen this video and it's not 100% perfect, he loses about 2 seconds at the second stage in World 1).
There's a legion of players who try to break speed records at games, I've seen some videos and it's insane... My favorite is the guy who finished Half Life 1 in about 30 minutes (exploiting map and game bugs).
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering
I've been playing Sid Meier's Pirates! and I suggest that anyone that enjoys action/adventure games and especially if you loved the old Pirates! game to go find a copy of it and play it.
I love the GT games. I'd actually consider buying a PS2 just to play them. For me it's basically that so much attention is paid to racing mechanics. But the real reason is the 60 fps. Why oh why does Microsoft make their racing games at 30 fps????
