You actually play on a NES?  Amazing.  Mine quit working ages ago.

I don't know if you still have yours but if you got the classic blinking power light error the 72-pin connectors in the console sell for about 10 bucks a piece online and they're surprisingly easy to replace.

This is true but the rest of my post explains why it's irrelevant in my case.  Emulators just look much better on my TV due to the upscaling/filtering they do.  Plus playing them on a ps3 controller feels pretty close to a SNES controller.

SuperSAI2x for super nintendo games makes them look fantastic, *almost* like they are a modern game that was drawn to look retro.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Might wanna get that checked out

Just remember I'm playing on a 65 inch HDTV, and sure SuperSal'ing it causes some distortions and alterations, it's much preferable to having it be pixelated or blurry.  Some games it works better than others.  The Mega Man X games look great that way.

Blurry no but they are supposed to look pixelated. What with being pixel games and all...

But to each their own. I'm a purist at heart so I find smoothers like that less than agreeable. Though SuperSAI is far from the worst offender.

I actually bent the 72 contacts back into shape and sanded them a little. Much more satifsfying than replacing it.

It's true they are supposed to be pixelated, i just like having it smoothed out for some reason.  I dunno, I know it isn't authentic that way, but it just looks good to me.  Like I'm playing an extremely faithful remake or something.

I grew up playing LucasArts adventure games on a Mac. Those versions came with their own inbuilt graphic filter to smooth out the pixels. (It later went into much more widespread use under the name of Advanced Mame 2X filtering.)

Now that I've switched to PCs, I prefer the chunky pixels of the original versions.

But I suppose I can't blame people for liking smoother graphics... as long as the option to switch back and forth is readily available.

The time has come for you to start getting the bands back together:

Rock Band is back, baby!

They're working on making the instruments and all the tracks compatible, as long as you stuck with the same company's console this generation.

I'm so excited you guys.

Today is a very sad day. Maxis was one of the all time great game makers and once again as in so many other cases EA has destroyed them with their greed. The last Sim City failed because EA released an unfinished game and used it as a platform to sell DLC instead of releasing a good game. Sim City 2000 and 3000 are two of my favorite games of all time and I have no idea how many hours I spent playing them back in the 90s, what is more they still hold up today. EA has now destroyed the three developers who's products I spent the most time playing when I was a kid, Origin, Westwood, and now Maxis.

This is a very sad day, but at least the old games are still out there, on the used market to play.

Thanks for all the good times and great products Maxis, you will be missed.

I just found a great new emulator: BSNES.  It emulates the pants off of SNES9X.  Maybe it isn't this wasy for everyone, but SNES9X for me always had framerate issues.  Not in the way that the game itself was actually lagging, just that the motion was choppy.  Most noticeable in sidescrollers; it seemed the screen did not scroll smoothly.  Also the sound timing was off, it always seemed like the music had trouble staying at the right tempo for me.  BSNES does both of these things perfectly.  Also it even emulates several other systems, NES included and some others, but I haven't tested those to see if they are as good.

bsnes is now called higan... I thought you would have known that by now.

I find it amusing that you say snes9x lags but bsnes/higan doesn't. Bsnes, being an accuracy aimed emulator, has far higher system requirements than snes9x does...unless you are using the performance core.

Also I specifically said SNES9X's framerate issues are NOT lag.

I could complain about EA-Bioware not releasing any DLC for dragon age inquisition or fully patching the game but its EA, buyer beware.

After Dragon age II and Mass Effect 3 you have to expect this stuff, besides the fact that all their games still have glitches and framerate problems at least on the xbox 360.

As for companies moving all the content into DLC and online co-op that is where the money is.

The fact that I still can't get certain missions to work without crashing my PC when I built it around ME3, after three years is a big part of the reason I am boycotting EA.

That and they keep killing my favorite game companies.  I am pretty sure Bioware would still be producing quality products and patching them if they were not owned by EA.

I really hope EA dies some day.

Oh and am I the only one who is sick of every time something goes wrong with my PC or Xbox having to spend days redownloading all the DLC for my games?  Come on publisher, please through me a bone.  Once I have downloaded the DLC once could you give me the option to burn it to a back up disc or buy it in disc form like the old style expansion packs?  Please, I mean why do i have to download the same files over and over again?

I hate EA because with their sports games they basically reissue the same exact game EVERY YEAR with a slightly modified engine and maybe a few new features and an updated roster.  They basically release a new mod packaged as an entirely new game every year for multiple sports.

I'm so excited you guys.

Words failed me when this was announced. So fricking excited for this. A few months ago I finally found a Beatles drum kit which has none of the problems of the stock 1 and 2 kits.

This and Arkham Knight are making me get a PS4 as soon as possible. The last time I was excited for gaming was virtually never.

If anybody wants to play RB3 online, I'm down.

I'm playing a great new adventure game. I can't reveal anything else about it as yet... but the reward for completing it is colossal.

I was never really a console gamer, though. Even back in the 1990s, all the hubbub about GoldenEye passed me by. Still, I might have to play it sometime... diamonds are forever, after all.

I used to love adventure games and have been meaning to get back into them, why can't you tell use about this one?  Are you some sort of secret beta tester or something.

You know I am still looking for a new game or series where the characters draw me in the way the ones in Mass Effect did.  It's too bad EA ruined Bioware because before that they put out quality games that worked with characters I really liked and their tone was just right for me. Most games are either too light and kiddy or way too dark for my taste, Bioware got the tone just right for me before ME3.  I really miss them, the only other game that strikes just that perfect heroic escapist tone where while still having some dark moments and giving me a fun time is the Fable series, but thanks to my Xbox breaking down I can't enjoy that any more.

DARN IT EA, WHY DO YOU ONLY SEEM TO EXIST TO DESTROY THINGS THAT BRING ME JOY?!!!

If you're looking for a great adventure game, I definitely can't recommend Kentucky Route Zero enough!

"Secret beta tester" is essentially correct... though the game is actually still in alpha stage.

Okay, can't wait for the game to come out so you can tell me what it is.

Have fun! :)

You know what I miss?  The Game Genie.

I miss replaying a game and if I don't want to have to go through a boring level all over again being able to enter a code and skip it.

I think I am just getting too old because I am spending most of my time now playing the SNES.
