GTA 5 is incredible. It fixes every problem I've had with the series.

Loading Times: Except for when you switch characters, gone.

World Unlock: Drive anywhere, right from the beginning.

Side Quests: Optional. You want to hang out with another character, YOU call THEM! They've also integrated the RDR-type random missions, where you can stop a purse snatcher or so on.

Getting Lost: No longer a problem. Drive as far as you want, then switch characters, the one you got lost will find his way back. Really keeps the game moving.

Car Damage: It's really really hard to damage your car as to be undrivable. Vehicles are far less likely to explode. Also, each character has a vehicle or set of vehicles that is owned by them, so when you switch characters or finish a mission, most of the time one of your cars will be waiting there, saving some time as usually you'd have to stand in the middle of the road and threaten someone to get out of their car.

Cops: There are fewer cops on the street for you to accidentally tap and start some kind of shootout on accident. They're still pains when you do instigate them, but they have view things on the radar so where you can see where they're looking for you, which gives car chases an almost Assassin's Creed feel. Sometimes I find myself looking for hay bales.

Story: Rockstar has learned from RDR and realized that we do actually care about the story. I don't see this getting as emotional as RDR did, but I do care about what happens to the characters. I honestly don't remember what Nico's deal was.

also, I second everything fives said about GTA5.

My experiences playing GTA V with friends:

"Oh hey, it's downtown!"

"Oh hey, it's the pier!"

"Oh hey, it's... Long Beach! Next to the airport? Hm, OK..."

"Oh hey, it's Westwood! Why was this so hard to find?"

So, needless to say, being a well-travelled local in LA makes the game pretty entertaining in of itself. I don't really play games that glorify violence like this, but I certainly don't mind watching. The map puts LA Noire to shame.

I got the the latest Humble Mobile Bundle because it included Star Command. A game I've been dying to play since it first met its goal on Kickstarter. Only gotten to play an hour or so of it but it's everything that I had hoped. Can't wait for the PC version.

As an added plus I also got (well most were) a game I'd never heard of before. It's called Ravensword: Shadowlands. I'm shocked a game on my phone can look this good.

I might be alone in this, but I want to play a game that takes place in the GTA universe but is from the point of view of the police. Sort of like a Serpico type thing where the system starts out corrupt and gradually is sorted out by the end of the game. Also would be cool to play as a female police officer (who isn't objectified and sexualised to the nth degree) to try and balance things in contrast to the male dominated criminal GTA games. There could of course be things the officer could do in their off time, like visit bars and stuff. As well as acting as a negotiator in hostage situations or talking with suicidal people.

I still want to play a proper 3rd person action/adventure game set in the Hill Valley universe. Driving, flying cars, skating, hoverboarding, stealth, puzzles... it could even have a guitar hero type level or two (if you like that sort of thing) and a quick draw shooting game. Kind of like Bully but with everything BTTF. Someone make it right now!!!

Perhaps not exactly what you're asking for- but have you played Crakdown 1 or 2 and/or LA Noire?

EDIT: Er... sorry, Tobar, didn't see you there.

Yeah I have played LA Noire and I really liked it. Though I'd like it to have a game in a similar vein but less noir-y and more "buddy cop show-y" and set in a more modern setting. They could utilise the same character switching thing that GTA 5 has, but for each of the buddy cops. That kind of switching system would be prefect for a buddy cop game. Maybe one is a female by the book, extremely efficient officer that recently shipped in, the other is a older jaded male officer that is one of the only good cops left.

Haven't played either Crackdown games, they don't really seem like my kind of thing.

The True Crime games are GTA clones from the perspective of cops.

Back when I had only the Gamecube they were the nearest thing I could get to playing GTA3 onwards.

And then came Simpsons Hit & Run.

^Now that I'll play. As we all know, licensed games have a tendency to be pretty awful. But The Simpsons found redemption. Taking most of the gags / easter eggs from early seasons really helped, but the game is just plain fun... without all the problems I have with GTA's plot and tone.

Highly recommended if you're still holding onto the last gen.

Xbox marketplace has all of the BioShock 2 DLC on sale through today.  Minerva's Den is $5, which should be a nobrainer for Xbox based BioShock fans.  I also really liked the Protector Trials, which frankly surprised me because I don't usually play much of the 'arena/trial' content in these kind of games.

The Lord of the Rings Online (2007)

So part of an online class I signed up for requires you to play LOTRO. I had dabbled with it years ago but didn't get very far. So now I'm back with a fresh new character and it's amazing. For an older game it can be amazingly beautiful at times. The landscapes are stunning. I find the longer I play and the further I get I'm surprised more and more by the scope of the world. It's HUGE! Combat is decent and the main quest is epic. The level of interactivity with the NPCs is also surprising at times. They also seem to have found just the right balance for F2P, unlike SW:TOR. It doesn't feel unfair and I actually am tempted at times to invest in the store and I don't feel resentful about that.
