Yes, the difficulty was one of the things that made ALttP so great.

Zelda two was more of an RPG, with a top down overworld. Monsters appeared on screen and attacked you, just like in Mario RPGs, except that they were nearly ikmpossible to dodge. When you fight, or enter a dungeon or town, the game switches to side-scrolling mode, in which you fight real time castlevainia-like battles against pixelated baddies.
It was difficult. Much harder than ALttP, so hard as to be frustrating, as most games were then.
To make it worse, you had to start back at the beginning with every game-over. Which is why I never finished it.

It had so much potential, though. It really was fun, just way too hard.

Which is why I am hoping Nintendo wises up and brings out a Metroid-ZeroMission style remake.

FFX is the best game I've ever played. I don't mind telling you all, I was bawling for about 45 minutes after I beat it. But then, I'm an old softy. Whatever.

As for Link to the Past, I am THE ONLY PERSON who hated it. I have never met a single other person, but I beat it once and hated it and so later tried again and quit after I got to the dark world. I don't know what it is, but I just really do not enjoy it. I'm the only one.

Zelda 2 is one of my favorites. There's some strategies for the harder parts, but it's hard to figure them out. In the end I beat it with an emulator (save states and all) and it was worth it.

HIGHLY recommend finishing FFX. Especially if you're a softy.
If you're going to take forever, then I'm having a hotdog!

Don't tell me you missed out on Metroid Zero Mission!

It was a total and excellent remake of the original metroid for the GBA. Came out back in February. It is incredibly short, but really really sweet.
(I nearly beat the game on my own cart, but lost my GBA. I beat the whole game in 2:05 on my friends the next day. Then I found my GBA the day after that.)
Metroid Goodness.

I liked Super Metroid the best. But the underwater area was hard.

Star, that one was Metroid Fusion, direct sequel to Super Metroid.

MZM was a remake of NES Metroid, all the same bosses and story, with a fraction of the absurd difficulty.

In someways, Zero Mission is a little too easy. Even in hard mode, you've allready beaten normal mode, so you know every twist and turn anyway.

Metroid Prime was the game that made me decide to buy a Gamecube...and sadly, I haven't gotten anywhere in it. Too many good games, too little time. I did beat Metroid Fusion though, and enjoyed that alot. Currently on the GBA front (love my NES themed GBA-SP), I'm at Dracula in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, but since i'm a Fighter and can't use magic, getting my butt handed to me regularly.

I'm not really sure what my favorite game of all time is, but I do have favorites in each genre...

For RPG, I'd have to pick Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Fun game, fun theme, it's Mario, you can't go wrong. Runner up, Secret of Mana 3 (yeah, it was only a Japanese game, but I got ports and roms)

For FPS, It's a toss up between Goldeneye and Half-Life, at least for single player. Multiplayer, Goldeneye or Unreal Tournament.

For RTS, Starcraft hands down. Love that game, desperately want a sequel.

For Sports, either Tony Hawk 2 or ESPN NFL 2k5. Haven't played a decent Madden game since '99...

Favorite Star Wars game is also tough. I've beaten and enjoyed Jedi Outcast, Jedi Power Battles (on Dreamcast), and have gotten as far as I could (before bugs and generally just being stuck) in X-Wing, X-Wing Alliance, and Tie-Fighter.

Let's see...currently i'm playing or haven't finished Metroid Prime, Resident Evil (remake), Resident Evil Zero, Super Smash Bros. Melee (I just want the stupid sound test unlocked!!!), Zelda-Ocarina of Time (on GCube, beaten it many times before), GTA3, GTA Vice City, ESPN NFL 2k5 (season), Ninja Gaiden (please, let me get past Level 5...), Dungeon Siege, Red Faction, Skies of Arcadia: Legends (awesome game, both on Dreamcast and Cube), Splinter Cell, Super Star Wars (rom, hard game w/o SNES controller), Unreal Gold, Elite Force 2...and i'm sure there are many others. Little bit here, little bit there...
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

"Stay back, or Mr...Fett gets it!"

My gosh. That sounds like my own list.

I have yet to finish: Ninja Gaiden, Final Fantasy Ten, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy Seven, Final Fantasy Eight. Viewtiful Joe, Call of Duty, No One Lives Forever 2, GTA III, GTA VC, Rachet and Clank Up Your Arsenal, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes. Super Metroid, Prince of Persia SOT, Legend of Zelda Fourswords Adventure, Legend of Xelda, Oracle of Seasons, Legend of Zelda I and II (collector's disk) Devil May Cry, Chronicles of Riddick

Probably some others. It is truly absurd the number of games I've finished this year that I started last year or longer ago. It's also crazy how many stupid purchases I've made this year.

As for favorites by genre:

Platforming. Tie, between Mario Sixtyfour and Rachet and Clank Going Commando

FPS. Tough call between Halo and Perfect Dark. I think Perfect Dark--I have almost four days of playtime in multyplayer mode.

RPG. KoToR, hands down. No other RPG could ever motivate me to play though it a second time immediately.

2D Action. This is hard. I'm torn between Metroid Fusion, Castlevania CoTM, and Astroboy Omega Factor. Metal Slug arcade. That is fun too.

3D action. I hate this genre normally. Ninja Gaiden is the best I suppose, but it is so repetiitve...

Adventure. Wow. My favorite Genre... I dunno. Ocarina of Tme, I guess, But Metroid Prime, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages, and Prince of Persia SoT are all there in the back of my mind nagging me.

RealTimeStrategy. Agreed. Starcraft hands down. Yuri's revenge is the close, but distant runner up.

TB Strategy. Advance Wars, Easily. those games are scary-fun. And hard.... Beating AW2 put such a big smile on my face.

Ok, my favorites:

First Person Shooter: Half Life (PC). Multiplayer: a tie between Goldeneye (N64) and Team Fortress Classic (PC).
Good old platform: Super Mario World (SNES), Prince of Persia (SNES), Super Contra (SNES), Yo Noid (NES), Super Mario 3 (NES)...
RPG: Final Fantasy VI (SNES), Final Fantasy IX (PS2)
Adventure: Grim Fandango (PC). Also: Monkey Island 1 2 & 3, The Dig, Day of the Tentacle (all PC).
3D Action: Metal Gear Solid (PC version), Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2), GTA Vice City (PS2)
Sim games: SimCity 4, The Sims 2, Theme Hospital, Theme Park, Mundo (the game I'm developing on my free time)
Strategy: Age of Empires 2 (PC)
Fighting games: Capcom vs SNK 2 (PS2)

Good Star Wars games: Rogue Squadron, Tie Fighters, X-Wing vs Tie Fighters, and yes, even Yoda Stories
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Starwars Ep. I had a bunch of technical problems, but it alos had the GTA-like element of being able to kill anyone in sight, even Anakin and Padme (or Jar Jar).... I would just play the game to Mos Espa, and then try to kill everyone in town.

Fun Fun Fun.
