You don't have to be online constantly. You DO have to have the Kinect on constantly.

Xbox One is watching you!

The machine needs to be logged into the account to identify the game is being used by the authorised user.

So you can switch off the console but you can't play any of your games on it unless you are online and logged in.

If you get banned or the service is closed the machine becomes a brick.

I like the nickname 'XBOne'.

“There are many devices in your life that require the Internet to function,” he said. “Xbox One is no different in that it requires, at some point in the beginning and at various times through its on state, to connect to our cloud and to our Internet. That is to deliver Xbox Live functionality, that is to deliver download content to you, that is to deliver some of the innovations around TV and entertainment that we showed today. But it doesn’t require it to be online all the time.”

Totilo then asked him how often it checks your connection, and the response was “Depends on the experience.”

“For single-player games that don’t require connectivity to Xbox Live, you should be able to play those without interruption should your Internet connection go down. Blu-ray movies and other downloaded entertainment should be accessible when your Internet connection may be interrupted. But the device is fundamentally designed to be expanded and extended by the Internet as many devices are today.”

Xbox One Offline Woes

The thing that stinks is that so far the evidence is pointing toward them charging you to play used games. One of the Microsoft officials stated that if you try to use your buddy's disc they'll charge you full price before you can do so. That also would erase the game from your buddy's account.

So far, it is really starting to sound like all the things some of us worried about the most with the next Xbox have been confirmed to be true concerns.

My interest in getting the new Xbox is now completely gone, as used games and lending/borrowing play major roles in my justification of keeping up the video game habit. For PC games, there are ridiculously cheap Steam sales, and for the consoles there are second hand game purchases. Unless Microsoft decides to start doing something similar to Stream sales to cater to us budget gamers, then this console just doesn't sound like it will mesh at all with my gaming needs.

Forget XBOX and Microsoft.

Stick to the NES/Famicom and SNES/SFC. The respective libraries are large enough to facilitate a lifetime of new (new to you, that is) games and the cartridges can be purchased cheaply enough if you're not in favor of piracy.

3D is overrated anyway.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

An Xbox One exclusive Halo TV series was just announced with Steven Spielberg involved.

Feels like too little too late. A few years ago, I think I would have eaten this up, but now I feel like there has been so much Halo, it is hard to get excited about any of it. Halo 4 went a long ways in quenching my thirst for another good Halo game. When Reach came out I was cautiously looking forward to it, and when I finally got to play it, it just didn't come through for me, leaving me longing for some more real Halo. I loved every second of playing Halo 4, it went a long ways in fulfilling that longing left by Reach, perhaps too far. Maybe in a way for me it was that one last fun joyride with an old fling before saying 'goodbye' and moving on.

I don't think I am at all alone when I say that Halo has lost its magic for me. If I am ever to get excited about another Halo branded thing again, it is going to have to be pretty groundbreaking, which was what made us love Halo to begin with.

I've been recently playing Psychonauts. I had never played it before at it was a ton of fun to play... until it got to the last few levels. Then it stopped being fun and just became a slog to go through. It's like the difficulty level found a jetpack and flew faster than a bullet train to the moon.

Lots of swearing, cursing and angry whines may have been emitted.

It's sitting in my collection waiting for the right moment to strike like Beyond Good and Evil did.

Gods I loved that game until the impossible boss.

Meanwhile...

This made me giggle :

I've yet to play Beyond Good and Evil as well. So many games that I need to play, so little time

Mrs O'Five and I decided to sell our never-really-used 3DS and DSi back to Gamestop along with all of our games. I know I've said I'd not go back there after being given a hard time for cancelling a pre-order, but I decided to suck it up and go back. Thankfully they were under new management, which is actually the old management who sold us all of our games over the years. Anyway, we've been looking at upgrading our refurbished launch 360 for an Elite for several years now, and after getting really good prices for the DS's, the manager and I figured out that I could sell my old 360 (without the hard drive) and Kinect and get a new system and transfer cable (to move my stuff from my 20 GB drive). Man, the new system is so quiet. I immediately started installing our most played games to the hard drive and downloaded the copy of Arkham City which came with it.

Only after I got home did I realize that the new system didn't come with a Kinect like I thought and the controller didn't have the battery pack, but thankfully our manager friend traded us back our Kinect and battery pack.

So, Arkham City is pretty awesome.

FUN FACT: We kept all of our receipts, so I was able to show the manager the exact day he sold us the original 360 5 1/2 years ago.

Let's get this straight XBOX ONE... It has to be online most of the time, the camera and mike have to be on all the time and it can distinguish between eight different bodies and monitor heartbeat and extrapolate mood from face recognition tech.

And people are to volunteer for this?

LOL

Sounds like one of those ideas like "why didn't anybody think of it before?".

Genius! Color me curious.

I don't have the things it plays on.

Looks a bit like a lot of games I already have.

Got Mac?

? Q: Why is Artemis only for Windows computers?

A: I'm most comfortable developing on PCs, but I want everyone to have fun with Artemis. Fans on the forums have been able to play Artemis on Macs using Wineskin. Unix guys have also had luck using Wine 1.3. In the future, I'll keep mobile devices in mind.

JEDIT:

Just saw the rest of the FAQ. 40 bucks?? Get outta here...

So...Spent about 6 hours on the bridge simulator game with a crew of 4. Ideally you'd want about 6 or 7. Takes a little while to get used to the interface as each station has unique options.

We rotated after each round so that everyone got a chance to sample the different roles. Playing as the captain can be a bit intimidating as you really have to keep tabs on everything. communication is key.

The most fun was probably helm control as it has the most basic layout and trying to fly evasively can be a blast.

We'll probably do it again very soon with a larger crew - or ideally, two crews ala Enterprise VS Reliant style gameplay.

on a sadder note - this came up in conversation afterwards - http://www.ign.com/blogs/splitmindeddude/2013/06/01/oculus-rift-engineer-dies-at-33

Anybody play State of Decay yet? It looks pretty amazing. Thinking about buying it, it is only $20. Trying to figure out if I can justify an extra twenty bucks on video games this month, since I am going to be blowing $60 on The Last of Us next week.

E3 and this thread is on Page 2?!

So how about them apples? Microsoft made a huge mistake going first, I think.

As a non-pirate who doesn't deal in used games who is always online, I didn't have a problem with what they were planning with XBO, but Sony laid it down.

As for the price difference, remember that the Sony version of Kinect is sold separately at about $70 and Sony owns Blu-ray, so they probably give themselves a discount.

I don't know if I've already posted this but back in the late nineties the uk shopping chain Argos had a policy of 'no questions asked' returns until a fixed period.

A friend of mine went through a phase of buying an item of a particular kind, using it for a few weeks and then taking it back and then getting it again.

He got a greystation PSone, PSX or whatever we call these things these days and I got a copy of the first Resident Evil and we were playing it on a series of purchased/returned consoles.

One day it was my turn to pick up the console and when we got it back to his place and opened up the disc tray there was already a Resident Evil game inside.

Yep you've probably guessed it.

We left the game inside when we took it back and by pure lucky fluke paid for the same console back a few days later.

It was quite near Christmas so anyone could have got that machine with the free game but on that occasion the powers that be were watching.
