I too am back in Skyrim after some time away. I'm kinda stalling now cuz I want to play the DLC before finishing the main storyline[s].

You might be waiting awhile..

EDIT - looks like the DLC - Dawnguard - will be out circa today / tomorrow. Might check the marketplace later on.

for anyone out of the loop the DLC features two factions - Vampires and Vampire hunters with a fat stack of new stuff and improvements like mounted [horseback] combat.

Also the vampires look beastly and powerful unlike the previous vampires of the series..

Taking into account the titles I have are there any must have original Xbox games you fellas and fillies would recommend?

I think I recall that you have a PS2, so you're only asking for Xbox exclusives, is that right?

Advent Rising
Riddick (Escape from Butcher Bay) especially if you're a Riddick fan, but even if you're an FPS fan. (It's on 360, and better looking, but it's pretty decent on the big black box)
Batman- Rise of Sin Tzu* is a great co-op game that my family has put plenty of hours into
Crimson Skies was pretty great.
As a Matrix fan, I really enjoyed both Enter the Matrix* and Neo: The Path of the One*
Fuzion Frenzy is a great party game that will entertain 4 or more for hours
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction* is incredibly great. It also runs in 720p, if you have the component cables and looks pretty good.
Indigo Prophecy* if you're into bizarre games with psychic detectives and whatnot
Lord of the Rings Two Towers* and Return of the King* are pretty good, if you're a fan. RotK even has pretty good co-op.
The Midway Treasures collections are a lot of fun if you don't have them all in MAME. And! it's a legit way to get them (if 005 is reading).
Monster Garage was simple, but good clean fun.
Prince of Persia Sands Trilogy* are some of my favourite games of all time (top 50 for sure, maybe higher).
Psychonauts*
Spider-Man 2*- there have been a lot like it since, but it was first to be this great.
Did someone already say Star Wars Battlefront 2*?
Star Wars Clone Wars was fun, even for a guy that pretends the prequels don't exist.
XIII* was a great shooter for its time.
X-Men Legends 1 & 2 are great, especially for X-Men fans. They both run in 720p with component cables as well.

(Halo 1 & 2 but you already said...)

That's all I got.

*I think these aren't exclusives

You [xhonzi] just reminded me that for a time I was playing a lot of 'party' games with housemates after work and the best of these was Mashed. car racing from a top down view, similar to micro machines and other games from back in the day, it is incredibly addictive and a lot of laughs. It's great with a bunch of people.

any games from that [console] era should be dirt cheap by now so you [Bingo] shouldn't have too much issue, the main thing might be finding things that have become rare..

Thanks for the suggestions.

Some of them I have for either the Gamecube or the PS2 and some I had already noted getting repeat mentions on favorite lists on the web.

I have the PS2 plugged into the composite slot at the moment but I'm not really getting the benefit of it as PAL games on the PS2 tend to look generally poor (in terms of the telly connection) no matter what leads or settings you have them on.

It was weird to read a guy moaning about the fuzziness of Gamecube games when I personally find them to be generally sharper and more impressive on screen (graphic design aside) than any of the other consoles of that epoch.

As much as I enjoyed dipping my toe into Haloworld it's a lot less defined visually than Metroid Prime which I guess is the nearest thing you can find on the Nintendo system.

Republic Commando, as I have commented elsewhere is a bit of an eye-opener.

The battledroids sound and act much better in that game than they do in the films.

It was a really nicely designed game.

It's weird because this is the first time I've had an entire generation of consoles to compare and contrast.

I still love my Dreamcast even if it's a bit light on games.

If only I could find a cheap copy of Typing Of The Dead it sounds utterly nutty.

Soooo, now that I am about three hours into [Skyrim] and just barely starting to find it interesting (what kind of a fracking game takes three hour or more to become interesting?)

Wasn't it one of the last Final Fantasy games that I heard doesn't get good until about 20-30 hours in? I have no comprehension of that math.

I got to play it some last night after my room mate went to bed. Increased my level some and got to level up some skills, that made it a bit more fun. Killed several dragons at this point (not quite as an amazing experience as it has been built up to be, IMHO).

For some reason the story is of zero interest to me. Aside from Tolkien, who I love, I've never had any interest in fantasy books, maybe it relates to that. I try to listen to what people are saying and to try to get into the storyline, but I don't find anything anyone says the least bit engaging. Contrast that to the Bethesda Fallout games where I try to go everywhere and talk to every minor character to see what things they might have to say.

Maybe the 1950's post-apocalyptic future is just that much more interesting to me than the Elder Scroll's fantasy world. Playing Skyrim is giving me a slight itch to go back to New Vegas and play all the DLC I never bothered with getting.

My level of Tolkien interest is too low for other fans to consider me one of them, and too high for norms to consider me one of them.

As mish, as peshkë, I guess.

And I agree, almost all of the rest of the "fantasy" genre doesn't interest me at all, depsite the fact that fantasy plays heavily into genres that I love (Space Opera, soft Sci Fi, superheroes, etc...).

Have you ever read the Wheel of Time? When I worked at Barnes and Noble, some employees only read fiction, some only read history, and others only read home and gardening... but everyone (myself excluded) read Wheel of Time. Since my job was on the line, I picked it up and really enjoyed the heck out it. There were 8 books at the time, and I think they're up to 14 with the 15th and "final" book out early next year.

Of course, once you get into it people will make the assumption that you're into fantasy and you just need to read more of it... but it's worth the price.

You and I kind of have our own code language on this forum, but we never use it. ;)  Nice to see you throw out a phrase.

When I say I love Tolkien, I don't mean I am a diehard Tolkien fan that reads everything by him and memorizes their ME history. I love The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but have no interest in the Middle-Earth lore beyond that. I didn't enjoy the Silmarillion enough to finish it, and I've never bothered with any of his histories. I do however really like his children's stories. Farmer Giles of Ham, Leaf by Niggle, Roverandom, Father Christmas Letters, great stuff.

The first fantasy book I ever tried to tackle beyond C. S. Lewis and Tolkien was the first Wheel of Time book (Eye of the World, right?) Bored the crap out of me. Later I tried to read some of the Shanara books, but those didn't really pull me in either.

I have a copy of The Game of Thrones I need to read (have a close friend who has been trying to get me to read it for years, always refused on account of my not liking fantasy, but since I admitted to enjoying the TV show, she isn't going to let it go until I at least give the first book a try).

The Mrs and I started playing Star Trek Online last night. It's quite a lot for being completely free. The only things that seem to cost make the game easier (having more slots for bridge officers) or are purely aesthetic (make your ship look like Kirk's Enterprise). They even sell one of the currencies.

I got what I wanted out of it, the starting ship can be a Miranda-class (like the Reliant from Wrath of Khan), which mine is named "U.S.S. Indianapolis", captained by "Lt. O'Five". My wife has a custom ship (you can use pieces from three similar classes to make your own style), the "U.S.S. Tyberius", captained by "Lt. Mrs. Paris".

Fun stuff.

I forgot to say the only thing I'm disappointed in so far is to make the starship interiors easier to navigate, they're 3 or 4 times bigger than they should be. The corridors are probably 25 feet tall, the warp core itself is probably 10 feet wide and 100 feet tall, the bridge has a lot of empty space. Exterior ship scale works (the starting ship is tiny, especially going up against one of the damaged Borg cubes in the training mission), so I was kind of bummed about that.

While its neat to each have your own ship, I was hoping when STO was first announced that it would be more like each "guild" would have its own ship, the more players you had running the ship, the more efficient your ship would run. I imagined the Chief Engineering having to do a minigame in Engineering to re-route power while Tactical was targeting weapons and Navigation was maneuvering, with the Captain giving orders. Everyone having your own ship and NPC crew is also neat and lets you play alone I guess, but I'm still holding out hope to stand in Engineering and reroute power.

This is also the first game I can remember where you can customize your character to have a beer belly. Love it.

I installed it a while ago but the game wanted to download a massive amount of updates before it would even let me in so I haven't bothered with it yet. maybe one day.

Went to download Dawnguard [skyrim DLC] last night only to find myself a few MS points shy of the asking price [1600] So I might grab some points after work today. The nearest store that has them is about a half hour drive from here but I need to head that way anyhow..

You can't buy them by the 400, 500, 800 or 1000 from MS/Zune.com? Or you just don't want to give MS your credit card number?

Ashtu, eh? Actually, my decoder ring seems to be getting a little rusty these days. I had to write something in it the other day, and had to rely on translate.google.com a lot.

I half expected this answer, since it seems to come up often when I make a recommendation (maybe it's just me) but I still find it surprising and disappointing. It wasn't the abridged audio version, was it? The 3 hour abridgment of the 33 hour audiobook is incredibly poor. Everyone I know that's read it has loved the first book (Eye of the World indeed) even if they found later entries to lose their way. The 2nd and 6th books (of 14 or so) being the highlights.
