I just started playing Crysis 2 on Hard.  My guy seems to be a total wrecking machine, but on the other hand, I pretty much am getting blown away by guys that are 100 yards away.  I don't have a sniper rifle, and the zoom on the guns I do have are decent, but not great.  So I'm finding myself taking cover and engaging in white knuckle shootouts with about half a dozen guys as I move from space to space.  If I get caught in the open, it's pretty much over... which sucks since there is no save feature and the checkpoints can be spread out.

It's fine- it's a way to play a game... But I'm hardly Rambo or Master Chief running and gunning.  Am I playing this game right?

My new projector has a little input lag, so I'm not sure if the game is difficult on its own, or if my new projector is making it more difficult than it should be.

Minecraft.

Just played it for the first time two night ago, and again last night. Wow, this game is really stupid. It is a massive waste of time, can be really frustrating, and the graphics make my eyes hurt.

That being said, this is the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. Playing with friends makes for a really fun experience.

My 30 minutes or so with Minecraft didn't hook me at all.  I didn't play with any friends, so maybe that's what I was missing.  I made a block house with a bookcase wall, I dug a really deep hole, I made a stair case to nowhere... and then I was done.

If that is what it is, but I am pretty sure that is not what you meant, but who cares, carry on.

It's called a joke. I wasn't literally implying you are actually going to sell empty boxes of a not yet released game on ebay to scam people and cheat them out of their money.

But, you're quite sure that I was 100% serious about making that claim (after I told you it was humor, as you know what I meant better than I do...).

This board can be quite oversensitive and defensive.

Don't worry about it georgec, I am pretty sure DJ is the only one who read your post and took it as a serious accusation rather than just a joke. He tends to be kind of sensitive sometimes.

I tried playing it alone for a bit myself earlier this evening, I lasted five minutes before feeling incredibly bored and movied on to do something else. Yeah, playing with friends definitely makes it more fun.

Started on MASS EFFECT 3. impressed so far. I imported my character from ME2.

The detail looks damn good and I'm playing on a SD projector. haven't seen in in HD yet.

I've seen a bit of combat and some familiar faces but I haven't done that much yet. Trying to savour it and enjoy the story.

also started on MW3. it's meh..okay. Never been a big fan but at least it's better than the previous effort.

Got a motorola Xoom recently and put Scummvm on it. Just been tinkering with that, checking out old adventure games, Monkey island and Day of the Tentacle mostly..

tried running doom on there but it's unplayable without a decent interface.

I loved Mass Effect 1, but was somewhat disappointed in 2 for the following reasons:

  1. I felt they were aiming at a younger age demographic and going for a more pure TPS, rather than a TPS/RPG hybrid. This is a matter of taste of course.
  2. The game lacked narrative drive and got really bogged down in the side quests.
  3. Too many squadmates with little to say, instead of a smaller number with more dialogue
  4. The Collectors were lame, uninspired enemies who you hardly ever saw; it felt like your mission was to hunt down merc groups!
  5. It also really annoyed me that I could not put my companions in proper armour or spacesuits for those times when, you know, they go into space!
  6. No meaningful upgrades to your armour and no weapon upgrades to speak of.
  7. No inventory or economy whatsoever!
  8. Shrinking universe (a side quest mission allows you to eliminate the entire Geth threat from ME1!)
  9. Planet scanning
  10. N7 missions sucked; give me the Mako (with better controls) and those stunning vistas on unexplored worlds anytime

ME2 was still a good game with some really slick presentation with great voice acting (at times), and a few interesting characters, but it felt like the soul of the first game was sacrificed to create it. I think there was a lot of missed potential - the game would have been much more interesting if Cerberus had been shown to be undoubtedly evil and they had created a compelling reason for you to join them.

Having said all this; do you think I will like ME3?

I'm a little worried about this.  I haven't started ME2 yet, and I was only so-so for ME1.  Everyone told me I was going to love ME1.  When I didn't, everyone said not to worry because I would love ME2 for sure.

But the things that are gone (Mako, RPG elements, economy, etc.) are some of the things I liked best about ME1.

I also forgot to mention that they abandoned the late 1970s early 1980s scifi aesthetic in favour of a more "edgy" and "dark" look.

I've recently been playing Kerbal Space program.

It's quite a lot of fun, although I can never seem to get to the moon. I either overshoot it and end up floating off into space, or I screw things up with the rocket stages and have to splash down on 'earth' again.

Oh, stob. They're hardly the rich-man's playground anymore. If you wait for a sale, you can get a pretty decent 1080p PJ for ~$700.

$40 for 4000 MSP (usually $50) for US Xbox peeps.

I just got some. Not the $30 I used to pay for these, but it beats $50 (plus tax).

Finally got Hyper Sonic in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.  That only took me ten years... and multiple computers... and hitting the "reset" button every time I failed at Get Blue Spheres.  The abuse of power it offers is amazing; I especially love the "kill everything on screen" double jump.  Shame it doesn't work with bosses, though I understand why haha.

Why do you do that to yourself? ;) I gave up on Sonic many years ago, only to pull out the Genesis every once in a while for a few more hours of defeat.
