I've been trying to tie up some of the lose ends I've left over the last year. Last week I played Call of Duty 2 for an hour or so and finished the last few bits I needed on Veteran and now have 100% of the achievements for the game.

Today I decided to do the same for Assassin's Creed II. Finished off the last two tombs I needed, found the last 15 or so feathers I needed, and found the last glyph I needed and solved it. Now I am only two achievements away from 100% on AC II, and both of them are story related so once I beat the game I'll have them all.

I'd love to do the same thing for Call of Duty 4, but I really don't think I'll be able to do that Mile High Club mission on Veteran. I tried for hours one day and made it mind bogglingly close (as in one last enemy standing between me and the hostage), but after a few days of trying over and over again but getting extremely close and dying, I put it away and moved on. Now that has been almost a year ago and when I pick it up and try to tear through that level on veteran I can't even make it past the first couple of rooms. Grrrr. It is the last achievement I need in the entire game.

I suppose after AC II, Call of Duty 8 will be the next game I aim for 100% on.

As I am no longer a gamer, I'm going to assume this is some Silence of the Lambs thing and call the cops.

Relax frink. DLC is just a shorthand term for a Dog-food, Lettuce, Cabbage sandwich..

Why the hell are there so little World War One games? I'm bloody sick of the second world war.

I must've stormed Normandy beach over fifty times by now.

I would say its because no one knows what it was about, but then a game would educate us about it! Seriously though, wasn't it mostly trench warfare? Could that be fun?

Most Developers and gamers assume that WWI = only muddy and unmoving western front.

First Person Shooters in a WWI setting wouldn't probably prove popular, due to the somewhat stagnant idea people have of The Great War, However, there still is room for things like Splinter cell/Hitman-esque Stealth based Games.

But it would be ideal to enlighten people about the first world war. What seems to be astonishing is that people seem to know a great deal about the second world war without ever realising that there was a WW1.

I've said it before but the World War I trench scenes in Young Indiana Jones and the DVD documentaries were the most vital and visually interesting things Lucas has been associated with since Raiders.

Lucasarts could do a very good WWI game but I suspect they are too obsessed with their other War franchise to bother at the moment.

Agreed. A lot of the imagery was really effective. It's a pity such imagery wasn't utilized in the Star Wars Prequels.

Most people I converse with realize there was a WWI, that would be daft not to. But I have noticed most people seem to have a hard time differentiating its setting and events from that of WWII. Guess they just kind of run together to a lot of people.

I was playing Call of Duty the other day and was thinking the same thing, it would be cool if we had some WWI era first person shooters.

While the image of WWI often relates to muddy trenches, illness, and crossing no man's land, there really was a great deal more to it than that.  Personally, I could see a great deal of fun in an RTS of this aspect (did you know that mining was a popular method in WWI, and the allies successfully sunk thousands of Germans in an instant by bombing underneath their trench once?).  But truly only the Western front experienced such stagnation.  The Eastern front was much more fluid, asymmetrical warfare took place in the Ottoman Empire, U-boat warfare covered the Mediterranean and Pacific, mountain warfare in Italy, fluidity in the Balkans...it really was more exciting than Hollywood has let on.  I also think a broad strategy game covering Europe and the Middle East could be rather interesting, even with difficult-to-break stalemates in some regions.

Just picked up LA Noire for $10 bucks at Target. Haven't played it yet but I always thought it looked kind of cool, and $10 bucks is hard to beat.

Xbox Dashboard Update:

What do you think so far? I only got to play with it for a few minutes. Seems a bit simpler, definitely better than scrolling all the way to the right to get to items like Netflix. It actually makes me want a Kinect, if just for the swiping and being able to tell it to do things, so I guess its a success in the regard of making me want to buy new things.

My favorite part is all of the ads for World of Warcraft. Nothing helps sell your game system than a game not available for that system that will keep people from even turning on your game system for months at a time.

Speaking of which, our WoW resurgence didn't last long. Didn't figure it would, honestly. We only lasted a couple months when we had literally a dozen friends playing with us, how long would we last by ourselves? Not that it wasn't fun, we just found we'd rather watch Netflix or play Skyrim.

What didn't help was all of the announcements of how much things were going to change in the next expansion. "Hey, you know that build you're still learning to play correctly? We're going to change it in a few months, but please, continue to learn the old way for the time being!" Maybe they'll have a "PLEASE COME BACK!" special and we'll try out the new system. Until then, we'll be busy doing other things.

I don't like it. Old Dashboard was nice and simple, this one kind of assaults you with too much on the screen at once and now it feels like it takes longer to select whatever it is you want to click on with all the extra boxes stretching out in every direction.

I wonder how they decide what advertising everyone gets? I haven't seen any WoW ads on mine.

Yeah. no wow ads here.

Had a quick play around with the kinect but couldn't really think I've anything I wanted to search for.

It does seem a bit busy but things are a bit better organised now and hopefully it'll be easier to get around.

I kind of like it. I guess time will tell whether it's more practical.

Been playing SKYRIM, Borderlands, H.A.W.X. and some other games on my computer lately.

Not sure if anyone else is aware but each terminal in Halo Anniversary ends with a code made up from 5 symbols.

if you fire up Halo waypoint and press X you'll be taken to a screen with some coloured circles. they correspond with X,B,A,Y. press what you see onscreen left to right and you'll be taken to another screen. Here you can enter the codes from the terminals to get some bonuses.

There is also an 11th Terminal that is unlocked after you input all 10 codes - I've not done that yet. You must have found the terminals in-game to input their codes apparently.

I just had a terrible thought.

As some of you know, I stay comfortably about 2 years behind the game curve.  This is how I afford this rather expensive hobby, and also how I manage my time.

The Black Friday and other Pre-Christmas sales have left me with as large a backlog as I've ever had.  Also, playing 3 100 hourish games in a row hasn't helped either.

None of this is too bad, however... until... New consoles will be announced at E3 (probably) for release in fall of '13 (probably) which means I will buy one in fall of '14 (probably) which means I will still buy 360 games with full intent of playing them well into '15 (probably) but any so-called "current gen" games that I haven't played by 17 Mar 2015 will NEVER BE PLAYED!

Just like how I never finished Terminator Redemption.  Or the last hour of Advent Rising.  :(

Summary: I only have three years to plow through my current back-log (which on its own might take that long) plus all of the games that come out in the next 2 years.

Woe is me.

AND THIS IS NOT A PAGE THREE THREAD!

Oh, and I need a co-op buddy for War for Cybertron.  Preferrably a Generation 1 fan who hasn't played it yet.

Resident Evil 6.

Just watched the trailer. For the first half of the trailer my thoughts were pretty positive, and for the second half, all I could think about was how it looked more like Army of Two or Gears of War than Resident Evil.

I was hoping they'd go back to a more isolated survival horror feel, instead it looks like they've gone full blown 3rd person shoot-em-up. Maybe it won't be that bad and I am just reading too much into a trailer that was edited to be as action packed as humanly possible.

Watching that reminds me why it was a good idea never to do an Alien film set on Earth.

It just evaporates all tension when events take such enormous turns for the worse over and over again.

Raccoon City made sense as the next stage up from the first game but once you have had a major city taken out by a biohazard it's a bit like Daffy Duck making his own head explode (it's a good trick but you can only do it once).

Resident Evil 2 and 3 took place in narrow streets, sewers and the corridors of buildings but even then they had to abandon the city for the final act.

Nothing beats the tension of being the lonely, near lone survivor facing horrors in a tight environment.

Code Veronica, and Resident Evil 0 took place in settings similar to the first game maintaining the claustrophobia.

Even the village in Resident Evil 4 had enclosed spaces most of the time and it was out of the way enough to feel like the rest of the world could carry on without knowing what was really going on.

But after 5 and by the looks of things this one the universe it's set in is now so removed from the real one it just becomes another fantasy universe.

There has always been a large dollop of suspension of disbelief with these games (how else can you survive Barry Burton's dialogue) but it has become too overblown and I can't see how it can pull back without a REboot.

Very good points throughout your whole post. I've always considered the series kind of ridiculous, but I never consciously stopped to consider the points you brought up.

By this point enough incidents have happened on a large enough scale that the whole world would have to be aware of them. And 6 looks like it is setup to out do them all on the "overblown" scale.

Played and beat Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 recently.  Uncharted was great but Resistance wasnt nearly as good as its 2 predacessors.
