My parents never purchased a game system for me, so all my NES and Sega experiences were at friends' houses.  However, my dad was a big fan of Commodore (I think they were already defunct or on the way out at that point, but he loved them and still has a few units).  I actually grew up playing Vic 20 and C64 games, some of which I still love.  Favorite game from that era: M.U.L.E.

Anyone playing Skyrim?

I've only played it in small doses so far and I spent a great deal of time running across the map in the wrong direction cuz I wasn't really paying attention but it's a lot of fun so far.

It's certainly a wide open world - no Sean Bean to hold my hand this time.

from what I've seen they've improved a lot of areas and the dual wielding is fun and kinda useful.

I've only killed one dragon so far without help from others and I assume there will be a lot more - comparable to the gates in Oblivion...

I heard there's something like 150+ dungeons too. I've only been in about 3 so far.

I'm also liking that they ditched the somewhat cartoony style of Oblivion - characters look kinda realistic now where as they sort of looked malformed and troll like last time around.

The Mrs and I are taking turns playing while I watch Doctor Who on the iPad. We do agree that its more streamlined than Oblivion. The Mrs is going Mage, while I'm going Assassin/Thief, as much as you can choose classes in Skyrim. It's more that you just do what you want and it levels you up in the skills that would be useful. I love the talent tree thing as well.

My room mate bought it. It looks really cool, but for some reason I just don't have any interest in playing it myself and haven't touched it.

Meanwhile, loving MW3! I wish all my friends' schedules weren't all so different, it is hard to get a decent sized group together, which is where the game really gets fun.

I really want Halo Anniversary, but I am going to hold back and wait. Already overwhelmed with the stack of games I have to play right now. One last achievement I need in Dead Island, still need to beat Rage, as well as the Battlefield 3 campaign, and the MW3 campaign (which I am gnawing away at every chance I get to play by myself).

Now that I have to fight for the xbox... with a freakin' Skyrim player no less, the few chances I get to play are going to be even more rare.

is there anything greater than Christopher Plummer teaching you to talk like a Dragon? ;) Maybe hanging with Max Von Sydow [who narrated the ttrailers] but I've not encountered him yet. - I assume he'll be somebody important.

I was loving Rage until the sudden ending...I'm playing through again on Nightmare - which really isn't as hard as I expected. I guess the wing sticks make things too easy.

From what I've read the new xbox dash update should be out circa tomorrow - the 15th - xbox 10th anniversary...I hear there's a feature called beacons that should make it easier to coordinate with friends and play online.

I was kinda hoping that Halo would come out today since Skyrim also released here a day early [last thursday.] but haven't heard anything yet. I'll probably grab it tomorrow after work. More than anything I just want to jump in and experience the remastering, I probably wont play right through it right away.

I approve of this thread.

But will it blend?

I don't buy any new video games any longer. It kills me not to get Skyrim right away, but I know waiting 2 to 3 years to buy the inevitable Game of the Year edition that includes all the patches and DLC for around $30.00 is the right move. As I get older time goes by more quickly, so it is not a big deal.

I feel that the whole industry turned the corner a few years back and is now just like any other big industry - money can be made through hype and clever advertising, and nobody cares if the games are buggy as hell.

The video game review industry is also corrupt as hell; games that are strictly average get ridiculously high scores on most websites, companies refuse to allow advance reviews (that would expose their mediocre product) etc.

I'm currently enjoying Dead Rising, which I just bought for $10.

Honestly, when has it really been any different? There have always been really buggy and really crappy games out there flooding the market, with an occasional really well polished great game, all costing the exact same price. In case your weren't there yourself, look no father than The Angry Nintendo Nerd to see that trend stretches way back. Every generation has had its stinkers, and every generation has had games that could be great but suffered from bugs that make them unbearable.

re: Skyrim - i'm trying to get into the thieves guild but i keep getting distracted by all this 'save the world' nonsense. Looks like the story is really starting to take shape and having fun.

My guy is a lizard man [Argonian?] named Yegore. He's quite adept at archery and douchebaggery.

Also checking out Halo: Anniversary. getting used to the overpowered weapons again, but that's kinda what makes it fun. Found the first few terminals - pretty interesting stuff and a handful of skulls so far. There's a skull I know of but haven't got to yet cuz it requires grenade jumping and I suck at that.

Good fun re-living the classic campaign with a fancy facelift. The beefed up sound effects make weapons like the assault rifle really feel like they have a kick to them.

I got a key for an Old Republic beta test and then totally forgot to redeem it in time. Anyone played it yet?

Just finished the story of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Now to decide whether to get more achievements or play Skyrim (probably Skyrim).

Couldn't be bothered with Jurassic Park enough to even complete the first "action" sequence. I thought it was now common knowledge that quick time events suck.

Wait, you bought Jurassic Park, played up until the first action sequence, then gave up on it?

Well the first part of the game IS an action sequence so "played up until" doesn't really come into it. I quit the thing in less than 30 seconds. But no, I was not silly enough to buy it without reading reviews - I played it on my silly friend's laptop.

Is anyone here playing Assassin's Creed Revelations? and if so are you into the DLC skins?

As I am no longer a gamer, I'm going to assume this is some Silence of the Lambs thing and call the cops.

You'll splitscreen with xhonzi or you'll get the hose again.

Anyone played Fruit Ninja Kinect? - best. game. ever.

Anyone played Forza 4? - I'm really curious about the kinect mode for that.

Finished Halo Anniversary - the new terminals were quite good. especially the 'keyes' level one. The blend of 3d animation and motion comic art works better than I'd expected.

Haven't really had a chance to try the new maps yet. They look interesting.

Back to Skyrim I guess. Am I the only one not playing it 20+ hours a day? It seems everyone is ranked way up and I'm still pretty lowly still.

I was able to play in the last two beta weekends. It's a lot of fun. I played as an Imperial Agent, awesome story. You're basically like 007 in space. Gonna be a Smuggler once it's released but I'll probably also have an Agent for my Imperial guild.

As for Jurassic Park it's not all quicktime events. There's also a lot of puzzle solving. I really enjoyed it and it has a good story. I bet your friend really dug it.
