No, I just read it.  (Did you read my extended post right above it?)  Can I assume that works even if I've already killed dog meat?  I think I saw that as a perk that's a few levels after 20.  I'm almost to 20 and think I can go onto 21 right away even if I haven't started Broken Steel.  I installed all of the DLC even though I've been ignoring it (as far as I know) for now.

On that note, any suggestions as to when to tackle the DLC?  I assume most of you played it after the main game simply since you didn't have it whilst playing the main game.  I've sort of naturally planned on doing the same thing.

Oh, does Warbler buy scrap metal too?  I guess he does live in steel territory... AKA The Pitt.

Yes.

Yes. And even if you kill him before the Broken Steel expansion is installed. I will even bring him back to life if you killed Dogmeat and never had him as a companion. I think it assigns a new name to each dog too, which is kind of cool.

Ah, didn't realize you had them already. Good.

Broken Steel came out shortly after I first beat the game. All the other DLC are just random little side stories, so those ones you could really do at any time. Broken Steel is the continuation of the main storyline and picks up immediately after beating the game (originally, the end of the game was the end, and you didn't continue on after).

The way I did it I think I got the maximum enjoyment out of it. I beat the game and did most there was to do, then every few months I'd have a new chapter along with new perks and content to look forward too. Was kind of pricey buying the DLC as it was released, but I think I enjoyed each one enough to be worth it.

Looking forward to it.  Dog Meat's death remains my biggest regret.  Though getting "him" back after 20 levels without him may not really make up for it.  :(.....

I installed all of the DLC even though I've been ignoring it (as far as I know) for now.

Ah, didn't realize you had them already. Good.

Yeah, I think I told you- but I got the GotY edition.  For $11.  The price I was willing to pay was $30.  I saw it once for $30, but had too many games and a wife who wasn't giving me any allowance.  Then GameStop had it on sale for $18.  I bought 3 $18 games (Just Cause 2 and Borderlands GotY) for the price of 2: $36, -10% for being a card carrying addict member +tax... roughly $11 apiece.  I did have to call/stop by three different shops that each had one of the games... but they were all on my way home.  When I did the "return and rebuy with the b2g1 coupon" at the last gamestop, the three clerks were pretty impressed.  Those are each quite massive games.  Especially when you throw in all of the DLC.

Come to think of it... I think maybe I shouldn't have started F03 while I was still playing Borderlands...  Or at least, I had that thought when I interrupted my FO3 weekend to play Borderlands with Zombriend one last time before he moved (I thought you would approve of this distraction) and I had a harm remembering which was which- especially at the controller level.

On that note, any suggestions as to when to tackle the DLC?  I assume most of you played it after the main game simply since you didn't have it whilst playing the main game.  I've sort of naturally planned on doing the same thing.

So... you were playing the game as each DLC came out... you played Anchorage and Pitt as they came out, but didn't finish the actual game until just before Broken Steel came out?  And then you played Broken Steel and Point Lookout and Mothership as each one came out, a couple of months apart?

There are currently three FO:New Vegas DLC's.  WikiP tells me that at least two more are on the way and possibly as many as three more after that.  So maybe I'll take my well earned break from Fallout after I finish 3 so that I can score a deal on the GotY edition of New Vegas.

I've had a stray thought to delete the Broken Steel DLC so I can experience the ending of the game without it.  And then add it on later for the "authentic" experience.  But I think I'm actually (literaly) too lazy to do that and I'll just youtube it.  Suggestions?  (I'm also worried that though I haven't "done" anything with the DLC, it might still create shenanigans with my save file...)

You've just jogged my memory a bit. You're right, Operation Anchorage and The Pitt came out before Broken Steel, which was the DLC to raise the level cap and let you continue beyond the game. I remember a bunch of people were up in arms over it being released last of the three. Now I remember I had beaten the game a couple of weeks before Operation Anchorage was released, and eagerly bought it up the first day because I was still on a Fallout 3 kick and ready for more. After playing it and really enjoying it and the different style of game play it brought, but not being sure if I felt it was worth the money I spent on it, I decided to wait to hold off on buying The Pitt until after Broken Steel, which I knew for sure I really wanted.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I ever got around to buying The Pitt until it was on a discount one week sometime before Mothership Zeta came out. After really enjoying Broken Steel, the trailer for Point Lookout completely sold me on buying it the day it came out (it ended up being by far my favorite DLC too), and I also bought Mothership Zeta on release day. After buying and finally playing The Pitt (at which point I was a bit Fallouted out) I realized storyline wise it was by far one of the best (maybe the best) piece of DLC for the game, and would have been a way better purchase than Operation Anchorage.

There are currently three FO:New Vegas DLC's.  WikiP tells me that at least two more are on the way and possibly as many as three more after that.  So maybe I'll take my well earned break from Fallout after I finish 3 so that I can score a deal on the GotY edition of New Vegas.

I was so excited about Fallout New Vegas, I probably would have been wasting my money buying those as they came out, but after the horrible glitchy experience I had with the game, I've had no interest and haven't even kept track of them.

I bought the very first one because the reviews were good, and because I managed to finish all the main New Vegas achievements just a few days after it came out, and I really felt the need to go for 100% after putting all that hard work in (plus I have always been curious if they take away your 100% status for games that have DLC released after you got 100% on them, and it felt like a good opportunity to experiment. Turns out they don't, New Vegas still appears in my list of 100% games).

That first DLC was pretty good, but after buying the game on release day, then facing all those game breaking glitches that weren't patched until after the game already dropped to half price, then seeing the game I paid $60 for on release sell at a regular price of $15 brand new only a little over six months after it was released, I haven't really felt like spending another penny on it.

Maybe once the game gets to be $15 used for the GOTY edition, I'll grab it to check out the rest of the DLC.

Actually, you've probably "done" somethings WITH the DLC you just don't know about. It added quite a few new perks to the game, and some other changes/additions, likely you've taken advantage of some of those already without realizing. I'd just leave good enough alone, and youtube the ending if you feel you need that authentic experience.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case.  Hence the "'" around "done".  I deleted the Oblivion DLC from my harddrive since I needed the space and could reinstall when I wanted to... and then I wanted to see/show something so I loaded up Oblivion and it was... wonky.  Still worked, but basically said "Here be monsters, procede at your own risk."

How many endings will I have to youtube to see the one I should have gotten?  I heard there were 200 possible endings, but I have to assume it's a matrix of maybe 5 or 6 totally different endings.

I managed to finish all the main New Vegas achievements just a few days after it came out, and I really felt the need to go for 100% after putting all that hard work in (plus I have always been curious if they take away your 100% status for games that have DLC released after you got 100% on them, and it felt like a good opportunity to experiment. I thought I'd had one of my 100%ers redacted after the release of some DLC.  I have no proof however... so I'll have to accept your word on it.

But 100%- that means you played the "realistic mode", eh?  How did you find it?

There's a part of me that really thinks I want to play these games that way.  I already mentioned my dislike of abusing fast travel, and I think the idea that I don't have to sleep for months on end is absurd.  And I only have to eat if I've been damaged in battle?  Do I ever shower?  I don't think I want to have to empty my bladder and bowels 4 times in the game's 24 hours... but I think I would welcome the extra layer of reality.  On the other hand, I think I'm carrying ~300 lbs of armor, guns, empty nuka bottles, tin cans, and steam works.  But I'm probably, if I'm honest, carrying about 3,000 lbs of bottle caps (jingle jangle) pre-war money, stimpacks, and ammo which all weighs an ingame weight of exactly 0 lbs.  Heck, I have ~50 bobby pins.  That's probably a full pocket right there.  Where am I carrying these 100 rockets?  And the 15 mini nukes?  And several boxes of 10 and 5mm?

Don't get me wrong- I exploit the crap out of the system.  But only because I can.  Having to do a better job of managing my ammo sounds like fun.

Maybe once the game gets to be $15 used for the GOTY edition, I'll grab it to check out the rest of the DLC.

Well, I'll let you know once it hits $15.  Assuming they make a GotY edition, that is.  ;)

Did you see the Game Informer cover art for Borderlands 2?

Yeah, the ending narration and accompanying still images is just like one of those children's mix 'n' match books.

Depending on the quests you completed, the way you completed them, your karma level, etc. Ron Perlman will say different things. Example:

"The lone wander left nothing but joy and happiness in his wake. | Thanks to him, the people of Megaton no longer have to live in fear of their god exploding on them (i.e. he's helped them learn to stop worrying and love the bomb *snicker*) |  Thanks to him, Dogmeat lived to the ripe old age of 11, and died fat and happy in his doggy bed while listening to the Ink Spots..."

"The lone wander was one selfish sob, leaving a trail of hurt feelings, tears, and dead pets in his wake. | Thanks to him, the people of Megaton no longer have to live in fear of their god exploding on them. | Thanks to him, Dogmeat was mauled to death by a giant scorpion at the age of 2 before he could reproduce, thus ending his long and noble doggy bloodline."

It has two hundred endings in the same way The Empire Strikes Back Mix n Match book provides kids with 200,000 combinations in less than ten pages.

I thought I'd had one of my 100%ers redacted after the release of some DLC.  I have no proof however... so I'll have to accept your word on it.

If I look at the game's achievements I obviously don't have 100%, since there are new achievements I don't have. But if I look at my nifty little (well... I say little) list of 100% completed games, it is still in there.

But 100%- that means you played the "realistic mode", eh?  How did you find it?

Minimally annoying. Some people love the added realism, but actually it is kind of dumb on the level of feeding the gigapet on your key chain back in the 90's type dumb. Oh no, my guy is getting dehydrated! I better provide him some water!

Basically it meant you had to keep lots of water in your inventory and take time out from whatever you are doing to give him a few swigs every time the "you're mildly dehydrated" message appeared. Food and sleep weren't as big a deal.

If you were running around and ran out of water and got dehydrated, your strength would be reduced and suddenly you couldn't run with all your inventory. So you have to drop some, or slowly crawl to the nearest water source.

Didn't really add any fun or even challenge to the game for me.

Hmm... can anyone tell me how to play Fallout 2?  I made my character a "small arms" expert, which apparently means I can't use my spear for crap.

I got through the temple after what was about 5 spear swings for every 1 hit, and then only doing 1-4 damage each time.

Now I'm in the wilderness and running away from geckos.  Is this game supposed to be more fun?  When do I get a gun?

I loaded this game on my PC again since I've been having so much fun in FO3...  but I can't seem to get into it.  Again.  In fact, I think I was quite a bit further last time before I gave up.

I suddenly really want a DSi XL... I think. I am still using an old silver brick, feels like it is time for an upgrade. Wish the 3DS was going over better, then maybe the price of DSis would plummet. Kind of crazy there is about to be only a $20 difference between a 3DS and a DSi.

Maybe I should just upgrade my DS's R4 to an DSTwo flashcard and call it good. Would be nice to be able to play Super Mario RPG on the thing, and to emulate GBA games.

^That was a whole lot of acronyms I didn't get.

It's like this:

This is the DSi, 3DS, and DSXL side by side. As you can see, the screens are comically huge on the XL. I can't decide if that's cool, or something for old people who can't see without their glasses. ;-)

I was actually thinking about getting a used DSXL this year, cause I was hoping the 3DS would make everything cheaper.  But only a $20 difference?  Maybe I'll just get the 3D one anyway.. Playing OoT 3D would be awesome.
