So last year we got a good Batman game, and NOW you're telling me we're getting a good Star Trek game? Maybe the apocalypse is imminent after all.

One of the comments I read on that youtube clip was:

More-or-less:

Wah!  Why is this an action game?  It should be a Point'n'Click adventure like King's Quest or Monkey Island!

Did anyone else play 25th Anniversary Star Trek?  It was a point'n'click adventure and I quite liked it.  They did a sequel which I recall wasn't quite as good.  One of them had Mudd in it!  And I had to learn base 3 to get past one of the puzzles.

Oh and Batman the Rise of Sin Tzu was a good Batman game.

And I thought the Batman Begins games was half decent too.

But Arkham Asylum was the best, on that I can agree.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Just watched that Star Trek trailer. Really good Star Trek game... Wait what? It looks like a regular crappy third person film tie in, I must have missed the news that makes us think this will be really good.

I guess the fact that they are working on it this far ahead (they have another year yet, right?) is somewhat promising. Any other reasons this is going to be good?

I'm not sure it'll be good. I just hope it will be

cheap enough that I don't feel bad for buying it anyway.

You know what would be the worst game ever?  A game based on that piece of trash movie, Forrest Gump.

Ok, not every thread has to have you coming in here to complain about your least favorite movies.

Jeez, Sk--- Frink.

Ever heard of the 3DO game "Plumbers Don't Wear Ties"?

Yes.  That was a work of art in comparison.

If for no other reason than to better appreciate all the crap that is coming out later this year and next that I am not excited about.

My hair trigger doesn't care what your reason is.

Fine. I'll just talk to your mom about it the next time I am entertaining her so she can lecture you about ignoring your friends.

One of the BioShock2 developers is working on it.  I really liked BS2, so maybe that's a promising thing.

I've been enjoying the recent episodic Back to the Future games but can't help thinking at the same time that it isn't the 3rd person action adventure BTTF game I've been wanting since GTA3.

Well... it looks better than some of the other Trek games that have come out before. And Trek Shooter games are always fun. AND you get to space jump and stuff, that's kinda cool. AND you get to play as Kirk and Spock (albeit not Shatner and Nimoy but I can live with that), that's cool too.

Yeah. Cos Star Trek: Elite Force TOTALLY ruined Trek. :rollseyes

Oh man! That game was so good it made me really want to like Voyager.

Dropped by one of my local used crap stores today and traded in a bunch of old junk I'd been meaning to get rid of and got some store credit and spent it on:

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES

Earthworm Jim 2 also for the SNES

and

Neutral Milk Hotel's In an Aeroplane Over the Sea on vinyl (even though I didn't realize it, my life was very empty without this gem, been listening to it repeatedly for the past few hours)

Earthworm Jim 2 was only $2 and Super Mario World 2 was only $10, which seemed weird because there was another copy of Super Mario World 2 on the next shelf down for almost $30. When I got home and was removing the labels I realized EWJ2 had the price sticker for some crappy billiards game on it and Super Mario World's sticker listed it as the Gameboy Advanced version. No wonder they were both so cheap, their employees must be on drugs or sleeping or something. You can't even find Super Mario World 2 on amazon for less than $15 + shipping. Too bad they didn't mess up the price on a copy of Super Mario RPG; that would complete my life even more than Neutral Milk Hotel on vinyl.

Super Mario RPG is the most I've ever spent on a used SNES game, and even then it was only $20. There's a really good used game chain near me called Replay's that has all kinds of great deals (Buy one GBA game, get one free, buy two Xbox (not 360) games, get one free, and each one of their Genesis games are $3...EVERY one of them. )

XHONZI!!! I DEMAND TO KNOW!!!

Are you or are you not aware of the pending existence of this:

http://www.amazon.com/BioShock-Rapture-John-Shirley/dp/0765324857/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1308546955&sr=1-1

If so, what are your initial opinions on it? If not, what are your initial opinions now?

Yeah, that's been on my Amazon wishlist for a couple months.  I can't remember how I came across it, but it was probably during one of my routine amazon searches for BioShock.

I'm cautiously optimistic.  As you may recall, upon finishing BS2, and the "twist segment" near the end, I realized that as much as I liked BS1 and BS2, that what would really be interesting to me was a game that took place during the glory days of Rapture.  I decided it couldn't be the "action" game that BS1/BS2 were, but something more like a detective game, like a Tex Murphy or something.  My mind raced with what this game could be and I decided I would like to see two games (I know).  One where you're a detective on the surface investigating a missing persons case which eventually leads you to Rapture (in its prime).  This game gives you the chance to see the world that the Rapturians left behind to go live under the ocean.  And a second game where you're investigating a case in Rapture itself which causes you to interact with the primary movers of Rapture.

As fun as my own imagination can be sometimes, I realize I'll never really get to play these games.  So, this book is probably my best bet at getting that kind of wish fulfillment.  However, there're only two people I implicitly trust to handle it well (read: According to my wishes) Ken Levine and xhonzi.

Hence the caution in my optimism.

But I'll read it.  I haven't paid $18 for a hardcover in a decade, so I'm not sure how long it will take me to get around to it.  Hopefully it appears at a goHastings sale soon after release.

EDIT: Didn't we (or at least you) talk about this book already once in this thread?  I can't find it.

EDIT2: I just noticed the cover art has changed to the picture I use as wallpaper on my laptop.  Sweet.

Mrs. O'Five got a 3DS this weekend. After playing it non-stop for most of the night Saturday and Sunday, she left work early this morning complaining of a migraine.

I'm going to have to stay on her to take breaks for her eyes, seriously. Thankfully you can turn it off, I might just have to play it like that anyway.

I got Pokemon SoulSilver for myself. It comes with a "Pokewalker" Pedometer that you can use to level up your pokemon while you're walking.

I may or may not be wearing it right now.
