Halo Anniversary sounds awesome. Choice of "Shiny" or "Old" graphics. Online co-op. Multiplayer maps intergrated into Reach instead of yet another system. Not a full-priced game.

I really dig the idea of making classic maps for reach - rather than dividing the audience. There's nothing worse than sitting in a lobby waiting forever for a game to start because the players are scattered so thin.
what i'm really wondering is where they'll draw the line - as the series went on they let you do more and more.
Will we be able to hijack vehicles? will the rocket launcher have a 'lock-on'? will there be dual wielding? etc...
the idea to switch between visuals seems interesting but i wonder if it will hold things back at all. will it ONLY be a facelift?
in any case i guess anniversary edition will be like odst. that little taste of halo to tide you over til the next proper game launches.
I imagine multiplayer will be Reach gameplay on old maps. Perhaps they'll be the option for a more classic rule set.
Just read an article that confirmed that the campaign will be running the new engine I guess Halo 4 will run literally on top of the original Halo engine, and you have the option to turn off the new engine at any time. It will be Halo 1 physics and map-wise.

my understanding is that Halo 4 is probably a new engine.
I've seen a trailer for each but not had time to dig deep into the details...
343 says Halo Anniversary will run a new graphics engine (I'm assuming the new Halo engine) side-by-side with the original engine. Literally one on top of the other. So you can have the overpowered pistols, 60 round ARs, and crazy physics exactly like the original game, but with a shiny new coat of paint. Then if you want to remember it exactly as it was, you can push a button and see what lies beneath.

I am actually excited about this Halo thing.
I am also super excited about Resident Evil 4 coming to the 360 (and PS3) later this year. Meanwhile, other than BioShock Infinite (well over a year away), there really aren't any new games that have me excited. It is kind of weird I am looking forward to old games that I could actually play right now being re released in HD and with achievements. I just can't think of the last time anything mild blowing or truly unique has come out to make me look forward to new games; everything on the horizon is more or less more of the same.
The last several releases I have been really anxious for have been sequels that really were not that different than the ones before them. BioShock 2, Fallout New Vegas, Black Ops, Portal 2, Lego Star Wars III. The new Elder Scrolls looks impressive, but I am anticipating bugs and long load times.
We could play through the campaign of Halo 1 together! Running through the Library screaming to not look back... Good times.

The Halo 1 maps will be added to Reach, much like Rock Band Track Packs. So multiplayer will be Reach gameplay. They might make a rule-set with more basic gameplay for some custom playlist. They do things like that sometimes.xhonzi said:

I'm sure they're basic because they were still limited by some aspects of the HaloCE engine. A shiny coat of paint is fine by me, even if it isn't state of the art.xhonzi said:
