RTS?  Surely you mean FPS?

How long did it take you to get into it?  I've given it maybe 3 hours and it never hooked me.

Of course I meant FPS. Typo. I've only played it a couple of hours. It is the only game I have on the system and thanks to the PSN being down it has been the only thing I've been able to do on the PS3 since I got it. Now that it it seems to be back up I'll be able to snag a bunch of demos and be blown away by this machine that only does everything. Or maybe I'll continue to be underwhelmed (not to say I am not really excited to own one, it is just that having never so much as used one before but hearing everyone talk about what a superior system it is, it isn't living up to many expectations. I also picked a hell of a time to get one with all these PSN issues going on. Doesn't look like I will get the Welcome Back package either, sounds like it only goes to people who were effected for the entire duration of the outage, and not new customers who bought it only to discover they really couldn't do anything on it thanks to the outage).

Get the demos for Flower, Trine, and the Back to the Future game, assuming you haven't played the first episode on PC.

And LBP.

I don't play anything on PC/computer. Partially because I have a Mac, but also because I hate the whole installing, adjusting settings, compatibility issues, etc.

Flower is the game where one of the writers of the IGN top 25 PS3 games list talked about it bringing tears to his eyes. Really hard to take it seriously now. Well, not that I ever really could have, with a name like "Flower". I'll look into Trine and BTTF.

LBP? LittleBigPlanet? If I get lucky enough to be included in the Welcome Back thing, I was thinking about grabbing that and Infamous. But I am not going to hold my breath. TLP doesn't really look that interesting to me, but the positive reviews are overwhelming.

I just blew $6 bucks on Resident Evil 2. Totally worth the ability to play the game with a wireless controller without having to get up to insert a disc. I think I now own four copies of that game... N64, GC, PC, and now PS3. Carp.

I definitely appreciate not having to deal with MS points and only being able to spend certain increments of money. Nice being able to pay exactly $5.99 for something that costs $5.99. That along with the ability to copy folders of MP3 files straight onto the hard drive are two places where it really owns the Xbox.

Yay, PSN is still back up!

http://uk.ibtimes.com/articles/156415/20110602/psn-sony-store-playstation-network-free-gifts-4-ps3-ps4.htm

Sony also confirmed in its blog post that despite the fact that some users were struggling to sign onto the service, it was still fixed and not an inherent problem with the new code.

The company blamed the sheer number of account holders trying to log on all at once as the reason certain users experienced problems accessing the store.

Wow, kind of makes me feel embarrassed for Sony. Tried playing around with it for a while yesterday and kept getting error codes. Came back later and still had the same problem. If that is fixed, then I am thrilled Sony provides such high quality services. Yay, PSN is free!... But if too many people log onto it at once apparently it is normal to kick you off or tell you you can't do anything on it. Why yes, I will be renewing my Xbox Live when it expires next month.

And PSN has no reason to apologize or give you anything for free because of the outage. It's a PRIVILEGE to have the service at all!

I'd rather pay for something, it gives the company a reason to keep it up.

I agree. But since free access to PSN is one of the PS3's major selling points, when someone pays $300+ for the system, part of what they feel they are paying for is the ability to go online and play Call of Duty (or whatever) with their friends whenever they feel like it.

The most important aspect of gaming to me these days is the social experience, so I agree with 005; I'd rather pay money for that portion of it, than have it be a privilege that I can just "deal with" when it goes down. If I didn't have LIVE on my Xbox, it would be useless to me. I have a hard time imagining Microsoft's service being down for six weeks over anything.

But I've never paid $5.99 for anything that should cost $5.99 on the xbox.  What I mean is, I get MS Points when they're on sale and save 20%-50%, which I can't do on PSN.

That is nice.  I have my both my ps3 and my 360 set up to stream mp3's from my media server, so they have access to 1000's of hours of music there.  I have a few songs on each HDD, but I don't really ever use it.  I've never noticed if I can play music in games on the PS3.  Can you do that?

I have however copied some videos to the PS3 HDD across my home network.  That's nice.

I've never managed to do that. I've always been able to find good deals on Xbox Live cards, but I've never managed to score a good deal on points cards. I do, however, almost always buy my stuff from Xbox Live when it is on sale though.

Where do you find these deals on MS points?

That is nice.  I have my both my ps3 and my 360 set up to stream mp3's from my media server

I have my 360 set up to stream movies and music from my Mac. But with the 360 you can't make playlists on the system unless the files are on the actual 360 hard drive, and the only way to pull that off is to rip them there directly. I've always wished I were able to toss a handful of whatever songs I am in the mood for at the moment into a playlist right there on the system without having to go create a playlist on my computer first. So that is definitely one thing I appreciate about the PS3 so far.

I've never noticed if I can play music in games on the PS3.  Can you do that?

Actually, I've just discovered that limitation. I am not 100% sure you can't listen to music while playing games (something I do fairly often, and the Xbox makes it really easy), but I was listening to music on it and opened up the PS Store and it immediately shut off my music. With the Xbox it will simply let you continue listening to whatever music you want in the background whether you're shopping or playing a game (it even pauses the music for cut scenes, which can be nice and annoying at the same time, depending on if you want to watch the cut scenes or not).

Looking forward to trying out the Blu-ray player. Unfortunately, my one and only Blu-ray is in storage in another part of the country. I've ordered seasons one and two of Life on Mars on BD, but it is an import from the UK, so I'll have to wait a while (region free, confirmed to work on US PS3s, and less than half the price of the region 1 DVD set!).

Full Metal Jacket.

It was mentioned recently in another thread that I own it on BD even though I don't have a BD player, and Fink asked me to explain how that happened.

I watch slickdeals.net where you'll see them on sale from time to time.  Recently it's been buy.com selling 4000 pt cards for $40 (instead of $50) on ebay.  That's only 17% off, but it's better than nothing.

Amazon used to have the odd sell on them now and again.

There's also a thread at cheapassgamer.com that tracks sales on them and the Live cards.

Looking forward to trying out the Blu-ray player.  <snip>

Not to continue complaining about the PS3, but I can't believe they sold this thing as a BD player... but didn't make it compatible with universal remotes.  It doesn't have an IR remote interface at all.  Someday, in the near future, I hope ALL remotes can be bluetooth or some sort of RF like the PS3, but until then I think they should have included an IR eye on the console for legacy remote support.  You can buy a PS2 IR remote + dongle and put that in your PS3.  You won't be able to turn the consol on (or off) with it, but you can use your harmony or whatever to, you know, remotely control the BD player that way.  They cost about $10.

Or, you can use the controller as a remote.  Or buy the PS3 BD remote.  Or buy the logitech bluetooth adapter module.

I could use a PS2 remote with dongle... but my PS3 doesn't have PS2 ports. In fact, when I first took it out of the box I was pretty amazed at how few external feature the "It only does everything!!!1" machine had. While they keep adding USB ports to the 360, they seem to be doing the opposite with the PS3. I keep an external hard drive full of media plugged into the back of my 360, and was kind of disappointed to see the latest PS3 only has two USB ports and they are both in the front. They still work well enough, but having ugly USB cords hanging out the front of the system doesn't look the nicest.

Almost 20 years after first playing the text-based thriller game "THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING" I looked up the solution online.

Turns out there isn't one. Not only that, but the game is supposed to come with an audio tape of clues that was not included in the discount rack version I bought. Also an instruction manual that says once you think you've figured it out, please write it all down and mail it to the company that no longer exists.

What a load of crap. I cant imagine how many hours I played that hopeless dead end of a game. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Although I consider the sequal "Presumed Guilty" to be one of the best computer game experiences I ever had. Go figure.
