I am still all for it. Not too many people have expressed interest in it though, not even Warb (not sure if he has been on since then, or if he even checks the VG thread).

Fun playing with you 3PX. Maybe we should practice so we can beat a L4D finale when it's NOT on Easy! ;-)

Remember how I said that Ocarina of Time being remade for the 3DS might push us to buy one? Today we bought me a DSi so I will have something to play while my wife is playing on her 3DS when it comes out.

I've been considering going through my Zelda games (I've got most of the non-hand held ones up to Twilight Princess) I can't decide if I should work my way backwards or forwards (most recent to the beginning or vice versa).

A few years back I did all the Resident Evil games I have in chronological order (0, REmake Chris scenerio, Director's Cut Jill Scenerio, 2 Leon A Scenerio, 3 Jill up until she collapsed, 2 Claire B Scenario, 3 starting again with the attempt to restore Jill, Survivor, Code Veronica, 4) and that was fun.

Damn it! Without any advice I shall start with Ocarina Of Time And see where I get to.

Well there you go or indeed there I go again.

I really need to start Windwaker.  I bought it when we got the Wii 3 or 4 years ago, and I haven't even started it.  I need to start it, THEN I need to finish it, THEN I will go buy a copy of Twilight Princess (and not start that for a couple of years).  Which reminds me... I need to get my son to play Ocarina of Time.  He's almost 8 which I think is probably close enough.

My wife and I are this close to finishing Mass Effect, then maybe we'll start WW.  But I really want to play Monkey Island 2 with her, so that we can also play 3 and 4 SO THAT I can finally play Tales of.

Decisions, decisions...

Also:

  1. Back to the Future The Game is pretty fun.  I got the first episode free by responding to some solicitation before Christmas.  I'm not sure how hard it is to get it free now... but the game is also coming to PS3 and there's a "demo" on that which might be the whole first episode as well.
  2. The wife was sick on Saturday so we logged a professional's day (about 6 hours) in World of Keflings.  That was a good time.
  3. Looks like I missed the OT.com L4D-athon.  :(
  4. Deadly Premonition is still bizarre and hilarious.
  5. I finished the story on Fable 2, and there are a few sidequests I want to mop up.  But, as always, once the "story" is over, I seem to lose most of my interest in the sidequests... even though my thought just prior to ending the story is: Let's put the story to bed so I can get back to these sidequests!

Windwaker is pretty good. Having to navigate to the next area over endless ocean is an interesting idea, but get tiring after a while.

Twilight Princess is also pretty good. I played the GC version, so I can't vouch for the Wii controls and the Wii version is literally flipped horizontally so that Link is right-handed. It's concept is also interesting, with the wolf form and light vs dark.

Your kid is 8 huh? Must be pretty bright, my wife was constantly saying "Why can't I figure this out, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A KID'S GAME?!" I'd be interested to hear how he fares.

This new game will be the first Zelda game (besides Adventures of Link, I guess) that I've never played. Dumb Wii...

O'Five, since you have never played Adventure of Link, I feel I would be a bad friend if I didn't highly recommend you give it another shot. It is a bit like the first Metroid game in that it is insanely ridiculously hard starting out until you manage to collect some gear and health upgrades. But once you persevere and get into it a little ways, it is no longer insanely ridiculously hard, but just ridiculously hard... and well worth playing.

In these crazy days of roms and emulators, there is really no excuse not to play it. And if you find it way too difficult, then I would forgive you for using an emulator's save state feature if it made the difference between you playing it through to the end or giving up on in after half and hour or less like most people seem to do with that poor under appreciated game.

It's not that I didn't give it a shot for bad press, I just never gave it a shot because I never had it. I'm not big on emulators, so hopefully they'll make a 25th anniversary pack this year for DS, or I'll just get a Wii someday (have to play the new one!).

Yes, I've played all of the Zeldas, but I'm pretty sure I've only beaten Link to the Past (favorite game ever), Link's Awakening (GB), Windwaker, and Twilight Princess...

But you plan to add OoT when you get it for the 3DS?

Yes, though I'm fairly certain I beat it, though if I did, there are several dungeons I don't remember at all. I did beat Majora's Mask, or at least helped some kids I was babysitting beat it. Can't recall. Never had an N64 of my own.

Somehow once my wife has beaten it, I will wrestle the 3DS away from her (trading my DSi) so I can beat it. It's fun to watch her play though. I was playing LEGO Star Wars last night on the 360 (I'm trying to make it my first 1000 gamerpoint game) and she was playing Spirit Tracks on the DSi. She was laughing and gasping, and generally having a good time. The only problem is that OoT 3D doesn't have a release date yet. I was under the impression it was a launch title, but apparently they're not going to rush it (which is good).

That's more or less how it looks on the gamecube.  I have that collection with the 2 NES ones and the 2 N64 ones, with the extra dungeons.

EDIT: Wait... which pic is which?  The top looks like a low render resolution- but the bottom looks like a low texture resolution.  I'm not sure which one looks better.

The N64 was REALLY low texture. The N64 suffered from a "texture cache of 4 KB", which is ridiculous. I just played the GC version over the weekend (it + Master Quest) and it didn't look much better. The top image shows that the new version has much better texturing, and his hair is less pointy.

And the 3DS version is going to be low resolution, as the screen is only a couple inches wide and has to render each frame twice.

That's right! While you old geezers are playing outdated, obsolete text games, those of us who are young and hip are playing multi-colored video games with real graphics! Like this!

The N64 could do resolutions of 256 × 224, 320 × 240 and 640 × 480 (rarely). And even then it was blurry. How did I survive...

I bought Rogue Squadron 2&3 for my Wii since I never owned a GC.  They're pretty much unplayable with my GC controllers since the thumbsticks have such massive dead-zones.  You can't fine-tune anything, so you either turn 10 degrees or none.  I thought I should just pop them in my laptop and boot up dolphin and play them with a real joystick.  But then I found out that you can't play from the disc and you have to go snag a ROM.  I owned the games, so I thought- why not?  THEN it turns out that they are un-emulatable.

Darn.

Been playing Red Dead Redemption a bit lately. This is actually the first Open World game I've played. Not a big fan of the genre, but the game is loads of fun. Can't wait til I'm comfortable enough with the controls to try the Zombie Pack.

I've never ever felt compelled to complete a GTA game, always losing interest. But RDR had me glued the entire time.

I've not been on in a while but the multiplayer was always horribly buggy in the early days. Although usually you can jump into free roam with friends without too much trouble. This usually devolves into shooting out each others horses, though. - and laughing like idiots. :)

I was listening to the soundtrack at work today and it's make me want to jump in and play again.

If I can find the time, maybe we'll go raid some canyons or something...
