What money?  It's points!

The thing that really bothers me and holds me back from getting a lot of stuff is that MS points are not sold in 400 / 800 amounts - an obvious marketing ploy.

Right now I've got just under 800 points but can't be bothered going out to the shops to get another stack of points just for the few I need.

Personally I'd go after Mass effect 2 stuff or RDR. But get what you think you'll get value out of.

Donate the points to a poor SIMS family?

Ringo- you can buy 400 and 800 point lumps from Xbox.com.

I've never personally cared about the lumps that points are sold in as I usually keep a stack of points on my account.  So I've never had to buy 500 so that I could spend 400.  Though- it's not like the remaining 100 expire or anything... Next time you needed 400, and you bought another 500... You'd have 200 left over, right?  Eventually it would work itself out.  Maybe people are worried about loaning MS a couple bucks until they spend it?

I do wish I could gift some points to the sims.  And by sims, I mean my wife, kids, or friends.  My family can play whatever I buy for the xbox on my account, but my son has recently taken to football and he wanted to get a football for his avatar.  It was 80 points, which equates to about 50 cents from the points in my account.  It seems worth it, to me, to encourage his interest in the sport... But I don't want to unload $5 on 400 points just to spend 80 of them.  Who knows how long it would take to spend all 400 points on his account, if ever.  It'd be nice if I could 'paypal' him the 80 points or just gift him the football.

I believe that exact option is coming in the Fall Update. Patience!

I think there will be gifting, but I know that you'll be able to set your kids accounts as "Child Accounts" of your gamertag, and then you can distribute points between them.

Sweet!

In other news, with 8 new R.E.M. tracks released for Rock Band today, I shall have no problem spending my 2400 pts this month, with or without the option to gift points to poor SIMs.

Porkins and the Came From Behinds ride again!

Yay!  I foundy my CDs (and Keys) for Blue Shift and Half Life 1 and they both work and unlocked the mega-pak.  I played Half Life 1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift (to completion(the original twice!)- and no cheating!) way back when but I've never touched the other ones.  Ricochet?  Day of Defeat?  Are these any good?

Thanks, DarkGryphon, for the heads up!

Welcome dude! I still have yet to play Ricochet and I'm attempting to find some torrent for Gunman Chronicles.

Are the older Wing Commander games flightstick only through the missions at all? Was even considering looking for some older Terminator games. Amiga also of course as an emulator. Would be nice if there were a hotkey for auto saves.

I would love to answer this question, but I'm afraid I don't understand it.  I'll get it a shot anyways:  You can play the whole game with just a joystick, but it's more conveniant to use a mouse when you're not in the cockpit.  But you can do it.  Well, I take that back partly.  You can certainly play it without using keyboard shortcuts, but it might be a lot harder.  I used to use the Thrustmaster F-16 stick and throttle which provided enough button combinations to do everything without the keyboard.  Depending on what flight stick you use, you might want to use something like xpadder.com to get some keyboard emulation through your stick.

Another point: WC was closer to "simulation" than "arcade", so to play it properly, you need a lot of buttons.  Whether those are on your flightstick/throttle or on the keyboard... you need a lot of buttons.

WC 1-3 added support for throttles in the WC Trilogy release or whatever it was called.  I think 4 and onward supported throttles (both digital and analogue) but I'm having a hard time remembering exactly.  My only point is that you might want to look up the Windows95 re-release of 1-3 as they did add some features.  And make sure you look up Privateer 1.  It was the best, and probably the one that survived the best.  wcnews.com is a good resource for the modern Wing Commander fan.

I loved the Infocom text games.

"The Sacrifice" the new L4D2 addon wherein you play as the L4D1 characters is out: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802454108d4/?of=3

Which prompts this question from me since I recently played "The Passing".  The mechanic in L4D2 makes a comment about having run into the L4D1 characters before, which made me wonder if I had missed something.  Is "The Sacrifice" the missing chapter that will explain that little aside?  I assume it also explains why one of the L4D1 characters is missing in "The Passing"?

Anyone know?

The only text adventures I've played are the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy one (that's still on Douglas Adams's website) and Gremlins for the Spectrum (well, Spectrum emulator). Got any recommendations?

The Sacrifice leads up to The Passing. There's a comic on the L4D site that fills between L4D1 and The Sacrifice, and also has some flashbacks to pre-L4D1. Neat stuff there, changes a lot about what we thought we knew about our Survivors.

The Zork series is the classic one.  Leather Goddesses of Phobos is good for a laugh.  And I enjoyed the H2G2 one as well.

I seem to remember Planetfall being pretty good but I don't think I got terribly far.

If you can there're alot of text games, some with graphics, for Commodore 64. I know cause I had alot of the Transylvania series. Emulator maybe?

I don't know why you keep hotlinking to a site that doesn't allow hotlinking.

Also, The Sacrifice contains L4D1's No Mercy campaign. Pretty sweet.

So... can you play the Sacrifice with either L4D1 or L4D2?  It's listed on the marketplace as content for both games... or is there different content for either game?

Holy Crap!  $10 for both L4D1 and L4D2 on PC!  Or 4 packs or either (to give codes to your friends) for $20.
