MWWHHAAAAHAHAAA !!!! I held on for more than 4 minutes and just had the weird feeling I read something really familiar from someone we know under the name of an assassin droid.

Mwahaahaaa !!! That's the post of the week !

Wow, I didn't expect Bingowings to be such a huge fan of games made for small children. I always took him for a fellow of far more mature tastes than that... no wonder he is so easily amused by infantile humor and silly pictures.

Okay, so I get the fact that you find rimming quite enjoyable, but don't you ever need to come up for air? Too much of a good thing isn't good, my friend. Geez, these days you are to Bingowings what Rick McCallum is to George Lucas.

You are the best thing in the whole of creation ever.

No, the OP doesn't say anything about not doing it. So, I guess you have to ask yourself: Why am I posting pictures and gifs of old school games?

I suspect two reason,

1). You're bored and have absolutely nothing better to do (pretty obvious assumption to make).

2). Now that I have spoken up about this a few months ago and you know blatant pointless derailments bug me, you get thrills from pushing my button (which you just admitted to in the above quote).

Either way, it isn't because you care about the conversation or have anything to contribute, you just do it for the hell of it. You don't want to discuss those old games, you probably have never even played most of them. I really don't even mind the old games pictures. They are absolutely pointless and a waste of time to look at, but so are a lot of things in off topic. But you guys feed off each other in a really weird way.

One of you will post a pointless pic, then you will all join in on a massive attempt at derailment, posting a series of random pictures usually carrying things on to the next page. It is really lame and childish, and makes it hard for me to maintain the slightest amount of respect for the participants who are doing what I see as the forum equivalent of someone being obnoxious in a movie theater, just because they know it will piss off their fellow movies goers, and they know they can get away with it.

I guess I should try to sympathize with you though. Your pointless SOS threads seem to have lost their thunder after all this time, guess most people can only be entertained by that kind of tripe for so long, so it is not surprising you have to look to whatever threads you can to keep that itchy post finger of yours busy.

Wow, so much hate.  But I know I get offended too easy, so I choose not to be offended this time. ;-)

Why am I posting old school game pictures?

1) No, believe it or not, it's not because I'm bored.

2) No, believe it or not, I'm not just trying to push your buttons.

Let me explain #2.  I didn't wake up this morning and say, "hmmm, today would be a good day to irritate C3PX."  However, when you start complaining about derailments and pictures again, it makes me a little irritated.  So I push back.  Is it mature?  No.  But geez, calm down, it's a fricking video game thread on a star wars forum.  No one's trying to perform heart surgery while I post deal with it gifs.

You couldn't be more wrong about me not playing these games or wanting to discuss them.  I spent tons of time and money in arcades in the 80's and early 90's.  I (or my parents) owned a Bally Odyssey, an Atari 2600, an Apple IIc, and a Sega Genesis.  I spent plenty of time playing friends Intellivisions, Colecovisions, Atari 7800s, NES, C64s, and Sega CD.  I'm always willing to discuss Frogger, Warlords, River Raid, Dragon's Lair, Xenophobe, Cyberball, Tecmo Bowl, Punch-Out, Adventure, Combat, E.T., etc. etc. etc.  Personally, I like pictures of these games because it helps bring me back to those days, so what's the big deal?

What did you used to play?  I'm more than happy to talk about it.  And if I post a relevant picture, what's the problem?  Don't tell me you didn't enjoy Mr. Ringo's Frogger post too...

Anyway, sorry you don't enjoy my "SOS" threads.  It seems to me I was derailing as many other threads when they were successful (whatever that means) as when they were not.  You think they're tripe?  You're entitled to your opinion.  But I'm not posting differently now then I was before.  Seems to me you're just bitching about it more.

Keep circulating the tapes.

Oops, sounds like I may have struck a nerve. That was definitely not one of Bingo's more amusing comebacks, in fact, it was pretty weak and cliched.

Anyway, I think it is safe to say Animal Crossing is considerably more childish than Star Wars. But just like Star Wars, I guess big boys can love themselves some Animal Crossing too.

I love those old games pictures but not only because it brings back to old days. I really think they were far more entairtaining --- "more" is perhaps not explaining what I mean, let's rather say they had a different kind of "spirit" --- than most of the 3D shits or mega-processed games with special fx etc we see since the end of the 20th century.

There's so much creative things that we still could do in 2D !

For what is about the "childish games" words used by C3PX, I'd prefer "innocent games". A 3D fighter with a gun is not less childish than a Sonic the Hedgehog or a Donkey Kong... On the contrary! But I guess the meant was more to display his awesomeness (and seriousness!) toward us though.

C3PX, indeed... You're awesome !

I am not lacking in calm, just disappointed you guys are so keen on stirring up trouble every time you see an opportunity.

All I did this time was essentially ask for you and Gryphon to stop snapping at each other, and so in your irritation you pushed back and your little play buddies joined in, and now we have managed to muck up even more pages. Congratulations, you effectively took the intention of my offending post and pushed for the opposite effect and got it. I think it is fair to say you won! Wooohooo! Go Fink!!!

There is no big deal about it. I don't mind your old game pictures. I have already said that. All I complained about was you and Gryphon going at it.

You're gaming seems to pre-date mine by about 5 - 10 years, I am personally very interested in old games and systems, in fact, often when you post game images I wish you'd caption them with a game title and the platform you played the on, since I recognize very few of them. The fact that you never really have (save for a few occasions) has always given me the impression you have simply been GISing "old games" and posting random pics. Even if that was the case, it wouldn't bother me in the least.

Again, there is no big deal and I made no complaint about them.

You're entitled to your opinion.  But I'm not posting differently now then I was before.

No, and your pictures are easy enough to ignore on their own, so they never really bothered me before. Now you have developed a troop of followers who like to follow your lead, and now, like you hold my initial fateful post in the Politics section against me and try to stick it too me whenever the opportunity arises.

Again, all I did this time was ask for you and Gryphon to stop fighting, obviously an unreasonable request, and was met with a wad of pictures. I commented on how that wad was obviously shot my direction in spite, and I was answered with confirmation that it was, and now we have reached this lovely level of nastiness and derailment.

Wow, I omitted most of it from the above quote, but we have really managed to sink to grade school level on our bickering here. I feel like I should be shouting out shit like "I am rubber and you're glue" or "nah nah nah nah nah".

As for modern violent games being no less childish, I think we are speaking on two different terms here.

I don't think Donkey Kong or Sonic the Hedgehog are childish. Donkey Kong is still one of my all time favorite games. Personally, I think all video games are pretty childish in general. There are certainly better things one could be doing with their time than wasting it away on video games. So I concede, all could fall under the blanket term of "childish".

I guess the same argument you are making could be made for a grown man who loved watching "innocent television" such as Seasame Street and Telly Tubbies over television aimed at older audiences.

The same argument could be made for 98% of the Off Topic section considering the kind of subjects that are discussed (or the way they are discussed). That's why I like to step here from time to time. That's the part of the forum where I don't feel the need to be too serious.

Is that in reference to the politics section and how discussing politics and current events are somehow something only dumb people do, IYO?

I agree 005, which is why I'm not going to respond to C3PX's post, other than this: I will start posting information (game, platform) along with the picture, so we can have a discussion if the mood strikes us.

Moon Patrol.

I assume this is from the arcade version (never played it).  I had it on the Apple IIc and judging from the picture, the PC version was a reasonable representation.

The inconvenient with all the arcade emulators now is how it makes hard to find real Acade captures. They were so much more beautiful with the real scanlines and light blur. I used to collect all arcade screenshots in a book a long time ago.

This one doesn't have scanlines, but really have the arcade feel:

Everyone's a critic...of course Star Wars isn't kids stuff but that's the charge leveled at it by many killjoys who don't understand it... Killjoys like George Lucas for example.

The same is true of video games in general, even now there are still calls for curbs on violence and sexual themes in video games because a large number of legislators still perceive the entire medium as being aimed at children.

As for Animal Crossing you might think a life sim based in a forest of anthropomorphic animals as just kids stuff.

Any game that has a cat that has washed it's own face off nonchalantly asking you to design a replacement has in my view entered the realm of the surreal.

David Lynch has nothing on that spooky shtick. The existential snowmen are a hoot too.

Still I guess Alice In Wonderland, The Wind In The Willows, The Narnia Chronicles, Animal Farm, Inland Empire, The Bible, Harvey, The Mahabharata, The Koran etc (all of which feature anthropomorphic animals) are beneath your attention?

How would you define mature gaming C3PX?

Author
Time

I am pretty sure I never said anything about anthropomorphic animals.

Anyway, I really don't care what kind of games you like, and I would be more than happy if you wanted to discuss them here. You tossed shit at me by comparing me negatively to one of the games characters, which I saw as an open window for flinging some shit right back.

Are screenshots on Google Image Search typically from emulators?  I guess that would make sense.  I don't have the eye for that kind of thing so I never noticed before (and still wouldn't).  But look at it this way - if not for emulators, would we be able to post the pictures, or play the games?

Most NES emulators have a scan line feature you can turn on and off. I usually turn it on, because it makes it look more like the game I played as a kid. Does your arcade emulator not have a similar feature?

I've never bothered to look for it.  Don't really care, tbh.  Didn't notice things looking strange.  Maybe it's defaulted on?

If things look really smooth, it is defaulted off.

Don't remember.  Honestly it's been a few years (since my daughter was born) that I messed around with emulators.

Hardly, he is one of the most popular characters in the games so much so Nintendo include him in games outside the series.
