Yes! Another BK:N&B fan! I bought it for my kids, but it turns out I've played it more than they have.
Which reminds me... I let BioShock 2 pull me away from N&B... I need to get back to it after I finish Batman.

Yes, that galaga. It just so happened my friend had one of those TV Games things at the mountain cabin we stayed at, and... high score baby!
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
So... I was giving this some thought today...
Left 4 Dead 2 has a level that takes place at a zombie infested amusement park... Zombieland ends in a zombie infested amusement park... When I play L4D2, I want to grab a spinning ride and uzi a bunch of zombies in the face like Tallahassee, or I want to make zombies chase me through a giant see-saw like ride and have them get splattered like Columbus...
But that's not exactly how the balance in L4D(2) normally works. Which got me thinking of the Big Daddy in BioShock 2 MP. For those who don't know, in BS2 you normally play a "splicer"- a regular joe or gal with a couple of guns and plasmids (some fire or electricity or something shooting from your left hand). But every once in a while, you can turn into a big daddy. A little slower, and only the one gun and no plasmids... but you have a ton of health, the gun you have is overly powerful, and you can plant 5 proximity mines. All of this means you get to go on a little killing spree until the enemy gangs up on you and puts you down. If you're in a team setting, the other members of the team look to the Big Daddy like allies walking beside a WWII tank- trying to defend the powerful weapon while also depending on it to do massive damage.
So, I think L4D2 could use a temporary "Tallahassee" powerup in a similar way. Yes, the game is "survival horror" to an extend, so a tricked out, mother flippin', zombie butt kicking action hero might be a little out of place, but as long as it only lasted a short while and didn't come around too often...
Look, I just want to hang on to the bottom of a spinning ride and uzi some zombies in the face, alright?
Speaking of which, when are we getting the gang back together for some L4D2?

ooh! I finally downloaded the demo for L4D2 last night and wow! i think this might be my next purchase... but ive got 3 games on the way from amazon already...
Sacred 2 - needed a diablo 2 type game...tried Deathspank but no...(by the way Torchlight on the pc is pretty good)
Frontlines: fuel of war - still trying to find a decent multiplayer shooter (well im sure there are many, but im kinda crusty and can't find one i like) and heard its similar to the original battlefield 1942 ...sort of.... i dont like MW2 or battlefield bad company 2.... too...hectic and too many snipers... or even Halo 3....:(
Resident Evil 5 - no particular reason just thought id see what its like.
I've tried:
Fallout 3 - completed it (quickly) on the pc - and though the graphics look better on my xbox i just can't get back into it - theres too much rpg elements and takes far too long to kill something...too much conversation!
Perfect Dark Zero - i got the collectors package, which was pretty nice but the game is just to basic, guns seem to be continuously reloading which is annoying as it takes way to much ammo to bring anyone down...
Alan Wake - not bad, but just not got the patience for it....(obviously i know its not a FPS type game)
Halo ODST, sold it - completed the solo campaign on easy and couldnt be bothered to do it again at a harder level. not enough variety in locations and annoying enemies. Just couldnt get into the multiplayer - everyone seems to take a whole magazine to kill and yet most people take me down in one shot.... but that might reflect my poor skills rather than the game lol.
however when i downloaded L4D2 demo i couldnt stop playing untill the end! the guns work well and was quite happy blowing away hordes of zombies with an uzi or battering them with a frying pan :) woo!
shoulda tried it a long time ago, cos half-life 2 and the 2 episodes are still my fav's. Is the L4D2 multiplayer just co-op?
anyway any recommendations you can make would be apreciated :)
You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.
L4D2 is always at least a 4 player game, it's just how many of your 3 companions are controlled by people. There is also a 4 v 4 versus mode with 4 people controlling survivors and 4 people controlling the special infected, but I've not played it except to achievement-whore with my friends (bend the rules and deliberately let people do the requirements for an achievement).
If you get it and the expansion downloadable content, there are "Mutations" available, one a week. Each week is different, with a different way of playing the game. One time it was everyone has chainsaws only, another it was everyone has swords. Another time it was ONLY headshots could drop a zombie, this week it lets the AI Director (the SOB AI who makes the game different every time you play; seriously, play through the demo again) spawn EIGHT special infected at once instead of the normal four. Talk about outnumbered...

I love L4D2. It is the perfect game for me, as you work together to slaughter an unlimited number of undead, scores don't matter, only survival. It doesn't matter how good you are, only that you LIVE.

Ney. I just played through Heavy Rain, Loved every moment of it. It was like an interactive movie, and having gone through it again, i can see your actions do branch the storyline in different directions. Its not for everyone, but it was an emotional journey for me.
I still play a lot of retro games using MAME on my PC aswell. Rolling thunder, OutRun, Street Fighter II, Duplex Dragon, erm, Dynamite Dux....

Hmm, I actually still like the first Left 4 Dead a lot more than the second one. Well, actually, I kind of take the whole thing as a package deal and somewhat consider them one game in my mind. So it just depends on what level I am in the mood to play rather then what game I am in the mood to play that dictates which game I put in my console. The only thing that really sets one apart from the other to me is the lack of melee weapons in the original. It is hard to play the second one, then go back to the first one and not have them anymore.
I actually liked a lot of the dynamics as well as the finales from the first game better than those of the second. The second is nice because they mixed things up a bit more, rather than fighting off an onslaught while waiting for a rescue vehicle to arrive every finale in the first game, you get to do things like collect gas cans to fuel up an escape vehicle in the second, or run across a zombie infested bridge as fast as you can to get to the escape vehicle on the other side. But ultimately, I still find myself going back to the original game's finales and being surprised over and over again how much better they "work" than those of the second game. They just have a certain feel to them and are fun and challenging at once. The L4D2 finales just don't have that same charm to them. To me personally, they often feel more like a chore than a challenge.
I also like the team mate AI far better in the first game, where they are usually quick to come to your aid, in the second the characters have a tendency to stare at you as you are being strangled/mauled by a special infected.

Awww, that sucks... I've had fun with that one.
Good to hear they improved the AI, I haven't tried playing it by myself for a really long time. I am really looking forward to the DLC for the first game, hope it comes out sometime this year.

Completed is probably too strong of a word to use here. I have all the achievements in the game, I am can say I have yet to complete it. There are still a lot of minor quests and storylines I have not done. The DLC add a lot to the game as well. But yeah, if you don't like the whole talking to people thing or the VATs combat style, then it just isn't your thing.

thats what the (quickly) meant - i meant - i've finished the main quests ...ahem!...with god cheats so i was level 20 from start and could pull off one shots!! hehe!
I really do suck at games so i have to resort to that kind of thing :p
edit: uh-oh , im have a sad now cos i think i totally missed the point of that game and have now sold it!!! cry!
re-edited: Yay! not sold! I had it listed on amazon but canceled it and can retrieve it from my office desk tomorrow! woo! then ill try give it a proper go :)

No, your question was valid, I was talking about the first game. Yeah, there is a new DLC planned for it. Remember, L4D2 was released exactly one year after L4D1. So L4D1 is still less than two years old, and certainly still worthy of new DLC.
It is fun because the recent L4D2 DLC (well worth the money) featured the characters from the first game assisting you. The new upcoming DLC for the first game will cover the events leading up to the events in the L4D2 DLC. So it is pretty nifty how they tie the two games together.
Now if only they would include a melee update for L4D one with this new DLC...

cool oh boy... ill have to wait till next month i think to get L4D now! I also ordered battlefield 2 modern combat (not bad company!) as had it on the original xbox and liked the helicoptor levels.
Also need some advice! i recently got a new LCD HD tv 19" (I like small tv's!) - and it can handle 1080p!! xbox grafic look great! ...but obviously small cos of the tv.... played sacred 2 last night but everything is so small (the characters are small to start with tho)......what really is the difference between 480p - 1080p ??
as i have a small tv would it be better to use a lower setting ...like 720p or 520p ?
but guess ill fiddle with the settings when i get home!
You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.
They make 19" 1080p TV's? Does anyone realize how CLOSE you'd have to sit to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p at that size? Yes, cns, I'd try the lower resolutions. Step your way down, but not to 520p, your TV probably won't be able to handle that.

Most things on the xbox (or PS3 for that matter) don't render at anything higher than 720p. If your console is set to 1080p, it just video scales the render to whatever your settings are at. (There are games on both systems that render at 1080p, it's just that the majority are at 720p)
But if you set your TV below 720p, the game might render some objects (like text, or HUD graphics) a little larger in comparison to the rest of the scene... so you might find that works better on your 19" monitor... unless you're just sitting 3 or 4 feet away from the monitor.

I'm a little ticked/glad (is that possible?) to hear you say that. I've only played the first scene and the start of the second in L4D2 (and the demo level) and I have to say that I wasn't blown away in any way by L4D2 when compared to L4D1. You said it in your post, but I <snipped> it- I do like the variation in the finales so far... but with all of their variation, they seem to be less epic than the big finales of L4D1. The new SIs are cool, but I'm glad they've just been added to the mix as opposed to replacing the original 4 (which I assumed they had done) because it gives the whole thing a nice variety. But if I had to choose the 4 in L4D versus the 4 new ones in L4D2, I think I'd stick with the original ones.
Well, actually, I kind of take the whole thing as a package deal and somewhat consider them one game in my mind.
Yeah, that's the thought I'm having so far too. Which we're not supposed to think, because Valve very forceful told the gamers "this is not more L4D1, this is a whole new game- stuff we couldn't have done as updates and DLC for L4D1." And some of the most stingy unbelievers seem to have been converted upon trying L4D2. I guess for me, after seeing what they've done to Burnout Paradise... I don't believe anyone who says that they can't technically do "it" as a patch or as DLC. Maybe it's a financial reason, and that's reality too... but don't tell me it's technical.
