You guys got it wrong. The Zelda for gamecube has only the DUNGEON's maps inverted, the rest of the game is absolutely the same, apart from different controllers and no widescreen support. The characters and props are not inverted, and neither are the maps outside of dungeons, such as villages.

Are you certain about that Ric? I was under the impression that all of Hyrule was mirrored.

Certain. Just the dungeons.

Well, what's the purpose of only inverting the dungeons? If they can make link right-handed in the overworld without changing the rest of the game, why do it in the dungeons?

The characters are not inverted, just the map. And belive it or not, but this is my theory: this is for those people who want to buy both versions so they can walk through both sets of dungeons. Some people buy the same movie on DVD over and over again, so...

It wouldn't really make sense to make them different for the sake of letting people buy both. From what I read at the last minute everybody who was testing the game said it was really awkward with the left handed thing, so at the last minute for the sake of making Link right handed in the easiest and quickest way possible they completely fliped the entire game. The bit I read said that the two versions will even have completely different players guides because they will mirror images of each other. This came from an Interview with Mayamoto or however you spell his name. It wouldn't make sense just to flip the dungeons and leave everything else the same.

Here is a link to the article:

http://www.nintendo411.com/articles/50/1/Wii-version-of-Twilight-Princess-completely-mirrored-to-make-Link-right-handed/

and here is the article:

"When Nintendo decided to change the controls of Twilight Princess to allow controller movements to swing Link's sword, it was decided that it would be too strange for gamers to be swinging their right hand in order to make Link swing his left. Thus, they decided to switch Link's sword arm and make him right handed.

What would be the best way to implement such a change so late in the development process? The most obvious choice would be to flip Link's character model, but with the rest of the game designed around Link attacking from a southpaw stance that would be sure to change the way at least some of the fights worked. No, the quickest and easiest solution was to simply mirror the entire game!

Famed game developer Shigeru Miyamoto had this to say about the decision: "Although Link is [traditionally] left-handed, at E3 we noticed people seemed to be using the right Wii controller to swing his sword. That's why we decided to make Link right-handed. The interesting thing is, on the GameCube Link is still left-handed; because of the mirror mode the game map is reversed."

It looks like the controls won't be the only difference between the Wii and GameCube versions of Twilight Princess! I can only imagine that it would be pretty disorienting to play through one of them and then go back and play through the other one. I may have to rent the GameCube version and give it a try after I finish on the Wii!"

If the Wii control scheme catches on, do you think this might be the end of Link (or any Nintendo video game character) being left-handed again?

I hope not. I don't like the whole right handed thing. It was a cool little quirk Link had. It is a shame they changed it here.

Neither do I, and not just because I am left-handed myself (even though the southpaw community needs as many famous patrons as it can get).

Well, Samus Aran may be left handed, considering she encases her entire right hand in a non-articulate plasma canon.

I've based my information about the Gamecube version on insights of a friend who is very close to the news related to Nintendo. So I guess he was wrong, and thus, so was I. I apologise

Today I was at a local store where the official national XBOX 360 release was being made. It'll be the most simple version of the XBOX 360, costing a little bit more than the Wii (thus almost half the price a PS3), with one controller, a special celebrative front-skin for the console and 3 games. The box, manual and console internal menu are in portuguese. While the initial game line up is neing released in english, every major release from now on will be fully translated into portuguese, which is a very cool thing - only SEGA used to do that, and only with a few games. There's also the network service and full national warranty and technical assistance. Based on pricing and features I expect the XBOX 360 to outsell the PS3 over here by far!

I really don't even see how the PS2 is holding up as well as it has. I think it is just fan loyalty from the PSX. I think the Wii and the XBOX 360 are going to knock it out of the water. That is of course, if Nintendo gets some better games than they had on the GC. I think the new Zelda will the the initial pull towards the system. I imagine XBOX 360 will reign at the top though. Is the PS3 going to have a new controller layout? Honestly, what's up with not changing the system name or the controller style? It is pretty dumb being able to predict the system name a decade before it is released. I mean, who would have guessed the Gamecube would have been followed by the Wii, or the XBOX by the XBOX 360? Talk about totally random names. Totally random system names seems to be what console systems are all about these days. PlayStations 3, we all saw that one coming. Comon Sony. You can do better than that. What would be really cool is if they would jump straight to, say the PS4, now that would be random and unexpected. They could perhaps come along a year later and make another sort of PSP and called it the PS3. Oh well. Good thing plenty of people still feel that if you have something with the Sony brand name on it that they have without question the best money can buy.

Well, the PS2 had several things going for it. By the time the PS2 and the XBox came out, I remember that it seemed that most people had Nintendo written off as a has-been company and that it would be forced to do like Sega and drop its own system and publish games based on its own properites like Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong, for other systems. But in the end, the GC was a success. I think that the PS3 has many problems going against it, one of the biggest being that it is really expensive. I think we'll have to wait a bit before we see who gets the best games, but I think that the PS3 will join many other systems, like the Neo-Geo, CD-i, and 3DO as being failures, mostly due to the fact they cost too much.

That's stretching it. At worst PS3 will have the third highest marketshare like the GC. The brand name is too strong for it to just crap out of the race entirely like a CD-i.

Plus, despite the lackluster launch, the PS3 does have at least ONE good game, and the same can't be said of most other failed consoles. Heck, the CD-i managed to get even ZELDA wrong.

Those of you who own a Wii - how long are the Wiimote batteries lasting?

Can't wait for the additional Wiimote I've ordered to arrive, gonna take some more days...

I agree PlayStation is a big name, which is another reason I think it is going loose this round. Remember Atari? Sega? They too were big names, but they both eventually crashed and burned. Honestly though, I really do not see this happening to Nintendo, They were slow to accept change during a time where cartriges were out they they but full faith in the cartrige game. Then when they did convert over a dvd system, they didn't even make it dvd compatible, which was a big thing at the time. Another of their big mistakes was childish games. I still feel the N64 is an awsome system, but I own less than a dozen games for it, and I really can't think of any that I don't have that are worth playing. Nintendo makes the mistake of relying on there titles to pull them along. I think the wii is going to be different though. It really looks they like they are getting serious. The new nunchuck thing is a really interesting idea too.

Also the CD-i was a joke. It was meant to be some revolutionary new entertainment system, Cd player, video player, and video game player all in one. Instead it crashed and burned.

Ric, I think the wii remotes only send off a small beam of IR light (just like a TV remote), in that case they should last a long time. Do they actually use special batteries? If they do that is retarded.

That's the main thing I don't like about this sudden necessity to have wireless controllers. I prefer playing consoles over handhelds because I don't like having to worry about damned battery consumption, but now I'll have to worry about my controllers dying on me.

Honestly, what is the point in wireless? It is not that they get that much of a range, do they? And it is not like you would want to site a mile away from your tv anyway.

I hate this console war bullshit. Wanting another system to fail is stupid. Sony has taken a big leap of faith by going with Blu-Ray. They saw a chance to make money and went for it, that is the definition of an entrpreneur "someone who takes risks to persue a business venture and make profit even if they might fail. Sony is an entrpreneur business just like Microsoft. I am not rooting for ethier one to fail because I will have a X-Box 360 and a Playstation 3 eventually.

I was not participating in any console wars, I don't think any of us were. I was merely making an observation. It really doesn't matter to me what happens to what. I do not and will not own a wii, xbox 360, or a PlayStation 3. I do not own a Gamecube, Xbox or PS2. I have a poorly functioning PSX a buddy of mine gave to me when he bought his PS2, though I really don't have any games for it and have never really played it. I have my old N64, and regular Nintendo and that is all. If I were to buy another system it would be the GameCube just for the sake of Twilight Princess. Console wars were at their hight back in the N64/PSX/Dream Cast days. Back then they were all different enough to mean something. Now it seems almost every game is released for every system.

Well, try to play WiiSports without a wireless controller.

I agree with C3PX. Just because Sony has a 'big name' doesn't mean that it is guaranteed success.
No, I don't think the PS3 will just flop immediately, but it will be a failure overall. I see it being a Sega Dreamcast, going along for a bit, mostly on the 'name' factor, but not succeeding overall, and eventually being forced out. Cool graphics alone doesn't sell systems. Otherwise, the 3DO and Atari Jaguar would of been huge successes. They had amazing graphics for their day.
And yes, the CD-i was a crap system for several reasons. But it was a very expensive crap system. The 3DO and Neo Geo were decent systems, but mostly unaffordable to the general public. I just don't see that many people wanting to plop down $600 on a PS3, when they could have a Wii or an XBox 360 for a fraction of the price.

I've been having some problems with my Wii's Wiimote. Here's an e-mail I've sent Nintendo:

To whoever may concern,

First let me congratulate you, the Nintendo staff, for developing and producing such amazing console, the Wii. I'm one of the proud owners of one, and I've being enjoying playing it very much.

Sadly, I've encountered a problem with my Wiimote. When playing with it and performing some sudden or fast movements, as required on some games such as WiiSports Tennis, the Wiimote stops responding. The leds go blank for a while, and only after I press A, the leds go back and the first one lights up, indicating that the Wiimote is in synch with the console. A chime plays on the Wiimote's speaker, indicating a re-synch.

A quick research on the internet showed me that I'm not the only one with this puzzling problem. Some internet discussion forum users have tried to guess what could be the source, some even mentioning an IR sensor on the Wiimote that might get lost on such sudden and fast movements.

Is this a known issue? Also, is there a prompt solution for it that wouldn't involve me sending the only Wiimote I own to Nintendo for possible repair or trade, thus keeping me from playing for quite some time?

Thank you very much,
