Video Games - a general discussion thread — Page 309

Honestly, I wouldn't have any interest in a '1:1 improvement' and I don't think many other people would either.

Firstly - I can still play Halo 2 on my xbox 360.

Secondly - the visuals were pretty lacking in Halo 2 the first time around. If I can play it in the 'classic' mode without popping textures and jagged edges I will be a happy man.

I'm not entirely sure but it seems like the comparison shots that are circulating are both from the xbox one version. That isn't really a true indication of the difference.

They aren't 'changing' the ending - but they are adding things - there will be a new epilogue [and prologue, i think] as well as terminals.

It's no secret that Halo 2 had development problems and a lot of stuff got cut out. The game was a lot of fun to play through but just didn't feel satisfying afterwards. I look forward to a more fleshed out story, even if it's not what Bungie originally had in mind.

And yeah, the abilty to jump directly from Halo 2 to Halo 3 without waiting 3 years is a nice touch ;)

Like I said, creating new models and increasing the texture quality is fine. But when you go around adding things and changing the atmosphere of a level that crosses a line.

Something like increasing foliage density is one thing but changing the lighting of a level is something else entirely.

Well then I guess I want that line to be crossed.

As I said, we can play the original in it's original form AND there were things that disappointed me in the original.

With this special edition I / We can have the best of both worlds.

I'd love to see a fully realised campaign with all the cut ideas incorporated but I guess that is wishful thinking.

I don't mind SEs as long as the originals are still out there.  it's why I don't mind the HD versions of TOS or the EEs of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films,so I have no problem with this.

Yeah, this was my line of thought about it.

The Anniversary Edition is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the Star Wars Trilogy's SE, only less egregious because you can still access the original edition - at the simple push of a button, no less. Would if we had that same ability with the SE. I certainly would enjoy the SE a lot more if I could just press a button and see the original film.

If they were changing the graphics permanently and not allowing you to play the original version, then I'd be upset.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

END OF LINE

Yeah that has always been my feeling.  I really hate it when a movie is remade and the studio stops putting out the original version on home video.  thankfully nothing like this seems to be happening with Halo and this is just a fun way to put the games out on the new systems and I have no problem with that.

Decent article, I strongly agree with that last line.

The thing that really rubbed me the wrong way with the first HALO Anniversary was how they changed the outdoor atmosphere. The original HALO had these really alien purple tinted skies and the skybox in general gave the ring this epic sense of proportion.

When they did the graphical overhaul they changed the sky to this overpowering teal hue and robbed it of that same sense of proportion. It was a change for the sake of change.

I'm always rankled when I see HD remasters that change random little details for no reason and it happens in virtually all of them.

The changes for HALO 2 Anniversary seem pretty tasteful for the most part. Probably helps that they're not just recycling art assets from Reach this time.

Having a good time with Titanfall. Even though there's no splitscreen, we seem to be having as much fun watching as we do playing (though Mrs O'Five complained of motion sickness last night).

Rented MGS5: Ground Zeroes last night. I was worried I would need more than the two night rental I paid for, turns out that I didn't need that even. I beat the story campaign in 80 minutes and that was after literally banging a truck against a gate for a few minutes after killing dozens of soldiers before Mrs pointed out the unlocked door I could have walked through probably 30 minutes before. I've never been very good at MGS, so I don't even think I'll be trying the side missions. I'm not sure why I feel the need to buy/play those games at all. I guess I can't resist such cinematic games, even if I can't begin to understand their plots.

And I figured that Kiefer Sutherland taking over as Snake would enhance my enjoyment, but I think I really prefer Hayter...

I've been playing lots of Stronghold HD, BORDERLANDS 2, Retro City Rampage, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Trilogy and many other games. Oh yeah, DARK SOULS & ALAN WAKE.

ALAN WAKE PC > XBOX 360.

Ah Stronghold, when you want to fire a cow through the air that is the game to play.  I love playing against the Rat because it is so much funny watching him go down.

I understand the cash bit, but you don't have a Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, OR Windows? ;-)

It's not your fault, I didn't link to the article:

I guess the first step is admitting you have a problem.

FYI - My xbone gets upset if I put anything over the grill on the topside.

Re: Alien Isolation - it seems like more of a F*ck You to people who don't pre-order rather than a sweet bonus for those that do.

As interesting as the game looks, We know that Amanda Ripley died as an old lady. That kind of seems at odds with her dropping into these insanely dangerous situations..
