Overkill is the ONLY game I would consider buying a Wii for. good dirty fun.

I've been slowly making my way through Arkham Asylum - which is awesome, and Wet - which is terrible.

The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai is 50% off on xbox live this week. It always looked kind of interesting to me, so I decided to read up on it, and in turn decided to dish out the 400 ms points for it. It is actually a lot of fun, quite pretty to look at, and very challenging even on the easier difficulties. I am really enjoying it. Ever since being blown away by Braid I have been a lot quicker to give games like this a chance.

Oh, sorry. Guess you are referring to L4D2? But just think of all the wonderful times you will have with me and the O'fives killing zombies together?

I have quite a pile myself. I'd have a hard time passing up a good deal, then if I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, I'd hold on and try to force myself to get into it, I spent my money on it after all, no sense wasting it. Then finally I got over that attitude and decided just to forget about them or give them away if they were not doing it for me. So now I have Assassin's Creed, Perfect Dark Zero, Halo Wars, GTA IV, F.E.A.R., and probably one or two others sitting on my shelf with no intention of giving any of them any love. Maybe they will come in handy when the zombie outbreak comes and I will need something to do while barricaded safely away in my well fortified home. Or maybe I can find someone to give them away to sometime who will appreciate them more than me. Already gave away Turok, Mirror's Edge, Bioshock, and Fallout 3 this year. Feels good to cut down on the clutter and return to my minimalist roots.

Did you finish BioShock before dumping it?  I really liked that game and would be surprised if you didn't find it compelling.

Also, I have to recommend Halo Wars again.  I really dug that game... though I understand it's not for everyone.

Oh yeah I finished Bioshock before dumping it! Remember I mentioned Bioshock 2 as one of my unfinished games. Also, I am the guy who made the thread admitting that I spent my precious time poking needles through a baseball in order to make my very own Bouncer Doll. You don't get that kind of dedication to a game series that you have never even finished the first installment of. I not only finished Bioshock before dumping it, but I have gotten each and every achievement in that game, and I am not that big into the whole silly achievement thing to begin with, I just loved the game that much. Even before I played Bioshock my deep yearning desire to play it was one of the reasons I decided to buy a 360 (that and HL2EP2, which my computer just barely couldn't handle). Even with 100% completion on the achievements, it was still kind of hard to part with. A good friend of mine had never played it, but is big into shooters and owns a 360; so I figured I might as well give her my copy as my gentile way of saying, "Seriously? Time to stop playing silly games like COD and Gears of War and pick up this amazingly awesome game that actually has some substance to it!" Sadly, it now sets among her other unplayed games collecting dust while L4D2 and COD:MW2 monopoloize her 360's optical drive.

...

Or, short answer: Yeah, I beat it before dumping it. It is a good game.

As for Halo Wars... yeah... never really been huge on the RTSs, enjoyed a few of the lighter and faster paced ones well enough over the years (the original Red Alert and earlier C&C games, and even Red Alert 2, and a few random non-C&C titles), but have never been huge on them. Halo Wars, definitely being definable by the term lighter RTS, was/is something I could definitely get into if it were on PC. But playing an RTS on the TV is something that has never appealed to me in concept, and even less appealing to me now that I have tried it.

And wow, that Boomer doll is amusing. I think it is pretty cool they are making a whole line of plush special infected, never something I would buy though. I am looking forward to seeing how the others look.

Not I. Didn't get ODST, haven't really looked into Reach. If a bunch of my friends get into the full game when it comes out, I'll grab it. They're still on their stupid COD kicks. I don't care for those games. Giving awesome players more perks doesn't seem fair to REALLY mediocre players like myself. And not being able to take splitscreen online hurts it for my house, since I don't play Xbox much without the Mrs.

Halo does a lot of things I like, like splitscreen online (four players!) and everyone no matter how good is on a even playing field, they just may have shinier armor. Did I read correctly that Reach has classes? If so, that actually sounds pretty sweet. It would be nice to specialize in something instead of the only sniper being whoever grabs the gun first. I have a friend who is a first-rate sniper, but some noob will grab it and disappear forever with it.

And THAT'S my problem with Halo. The good players rub it in, and the bad players think they're good and try to trash talk their way to the top. We went from having full teams of 8 having fun to my wife and I and maybe one other person in a Party so we don't have to listen to anyone else. I don't enjoy being competitive really, that's why I like L4D so much.

Are you playing Reach, Johnny?

Meant to download Reach Beta the day it came out, but was feeling too lazy to get up and put my ODST disc in. When I finally did get my ODST disc in and got the download started, I ejected the disc, put the game I was playing back in, and put ODST back in its case and back on the self and sat back down... only to discover that exiting ODST CANCELLED the download. Absolutely ridiculous! Wasn't about to pamper the stupid thing by getting back up, switching discs again, and leaving ODST running without being able to do anything else on my xbox while I waited for a long, slow download to complete. I heard some people get codes to download it without having to have any disc in the drive at all. Not sure why they didn't just include one of those codes with ODST in the first place. Kind of unfair that some people "choosen" to try Reach Beta and get it easy, while those who actually spent $60 on ODST have to screw around with a dumb disc and stupid nonsense such as having to have the game running for hours while the thing downloads.

Maybe when I am not in such a bad mood I will try downloading it again.

Yeah, my relationship with COD began because of a girl, so I sympathize with you on the splitscreen annoyance. Kind of lame I can only play it with her when we are both on opposite sides of town, and that when we are sitting right beside each other we have to find something else to do (though that is never a challenge).

As for Halo, yeah, I like the rank thing in theory. Though it seems about the time I start to get good enough that I am not dying every second or coming up last place or close to it every single round, I get promoted and find myself on the bottom again. So I feel like this function keeps me perpetually the worst player out of whatever group I am playing with, which is exactly why I don't play Halo online at all anymore. With COD, even though I am only at level 17 and often playing with a lot of 70s, I still feel like I have far more of a fighting chance to hold my own on COD than I ever did on Halo. On Halo I am usually dead before I can even pick up a gun.

I got the beta after similar frustrations to 3PX's.  I played a match and was thrown off by the controls having been switched around.  It seems like they're making some good changes... but 'simplicity' is one of the things that has made Halo as popular as it is... so I'll be curious to see if all of these changes don't backfire on them.

Okay, so you so much as press the guide button on the Xbox controller and it stops the Reach Beta from downloading. So stupid. While its 1.5gb are ever so slowly downloading, the only thing you can do with your Xbox is stare at the ODST menu screen.

I know... I had to go outside and play with my kids for most of an hour.  It totally sucked.  ;)

I was worried that when the screen saver came on or the wireless controller shut down that I would have to start over.  Thankfully I didn't...

Xhonzi - I had similar frustration until a mate commented that there was a control scheme more in line with what I was used to - called 'recon' - I've found that to be much better with my 'halo 3 fingers / muscle memory'.

And yeah it will be interesting to see how things play out. It seems they are trying hard to please both fans and those that drift off to other shooter games.

005 - yeah I'm in and so far it's been quite fun, I too get zero enjoyment from the COD games - but generally playing Halo I can have a good time, even if i'm losing. It's always good to win but I'm more for having a good time than being competititve.

At the moment there's only two maps in play but still a variety of gametypes, I haven't had hands on time with all of the new stuff yet but i can say that I'm in love with the DMR which is basically the new battle rifle. There is also a needle rifle that can be quite deadly.

RE: the class system, things seem pretty basic right now but I assume they will mix it up a bit later on, I've only played one gametype where class was decided by weapon, usually you will pick one of 4 types based on armour abilities

scout - fast running.

guard - very short term invincibility - you do leave yourself open here because you basically freeze on the spot.

airborne - jetpacks, YEAH!

stalker - active cammo

Here's my service record, i started out pretty poorly but i'm starting to level out a bit, now that i'm pressing the right buttons..

c3px, If your mood lightens, i'll probably be playing it on and off a fair bit during the weekend, gonna get the boys around and try some split screen, party up stuff.

I think today or tomorrow they are unlocking more gametypes so it should feel fresh again.

I agree that it's a hassle the way they chose to deploy the beta - they should have let us download it, or most of it at liesure leading up to the big day then just let people in when the time is right. Rather than having to leave my xbox logged into the ODST main menu for HOURS on end.

Oh, my moods always lighten quickly, and am pretty laid back and slow to anger/annoy, but the stupid download setup for this thing managed to do the trick ;)

I think it is at 75% last time stopped it, I'll go fire it up again in a few minutes and see if I can finally get the thing downloaded all the way.

I guess I have just come to reply on my Xbox for everything. It is the only device connected to my TV. I watch movies on it and play my music from it. I wanted to listen to music while I was downloading it and doing a few things around the house, but instead all I was aloud to do was listen to the ODST menu music. Oh well, it is now 91% complete, the annoyance is almost at its end.

Yeah I hear ya, I kind of assumed that.

Still, there's no guarantee that we'll see each other with different time zomes and all that but if / when you're ready send me a request and we'll see what happens. tag = iooioiiooio - just let me know who you are when you do :)

005, Not to nag but were you going to try and get on board or are you just going to sit this one out?

Also I hear they might be opening up the BETA for a few days circa the 14th for live SILVER members - cool, if true.

and there should be new stuff - map, game modes opening up any moment now..
